“Should I tell you about this place?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Occasionally there are hotels and places where you are in a quandary about whether you should review them or not. This is one. The selfish part of me would prefer people not to know so that we can keep it to ourselves. Unfortunately that would be unfair to the staff of the Therasia.
This place is quite simply perfection. The staff cannot do enough for you, the rooms are exquisite in their Italian simplicity and the views are just perfect. You will find it hard to find sunsets like these almost anywhere in the world.
If you want to simply relax and escape from the world plus climb a volcano and eat in one of the best restaurants that we have come across then this is the place for you (the Lobster Cappuccino at the Il Cappero is to die for!). if you want nightlife, bustle and state of the art boutique rooms then then do not come here.

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room with terrace for amazing views and sunset

After the stress of planning an Italian wedding we wanted a peaceful stylish resort where we could do nothing for 3 days and that is exactly what we got! From the second we arrived at the port the hotel were taking care of us. We were met by the courtesy shuttle bus and a guest liaison lady who made our arrival special by a free welcome drink and taking us straight to our room without any lengthy check in process. It was smooth! The facilities are great. The outdoor pool was too cold for me but my hubby enjoyed a dip. The indoor spa was very well thought out though. We had a great couples massage (a first for my other half but he really enjoyed it). The cocktails on an evening before dinner on the terrace were a little pricey but worth it as the nibbles that accompany them are basically a starter and the sunsets are priceless in their own right. Not that this stopped us enjoying the 2 wonderful restaurants. We had the chefs tasting menu the first night - the food was beautiful and the presentation very clever. One slight niggle was that we didn't seem to get any time alone to enjoy our first romantic meal, the staff were so attentive they wanted to discuss practically each mouthful of food and each drop of carefully selected wine to go with each dish. Some may enjoy this kind of attention however it was too much for us. Our room was beautiful with 2 terraces (one sunny and one in the shade) over looking the sea and other islands. All in all a honeymoon treat - 3 days was enough for us though, a week may have been too long to do nothing. Highly recommended.

1. the most extensive breakfast buffet I`ve seen - everything you can possibly wish for and more: how about filling your own cannoli with a choice of freshly prepared fillings? Staff will then take the plate from your hand and carry it to your table for you...
2. the hotel faces directly north, so you have the best views, but unfortunately the sun is always directly behind you...no sunshine on the balcony for the sea view rooms
3. hotel sends the shuttle bus to meet you at the port, which we didn`t know about, and arriving with our car it didn`t really matter, but then we were told how many times hotel staff tried to contact us by phone to ask about our arrival time...
4. dinner is a similar experience to breakfast-always so many staff members, you feel bad for not giving them something to help you with
5. swimming pool- lovely, facing sunset. Still finishing the gardens next to it with the tractor though..
6. views of the Lipari islands-very good indeed. Especially from the bar, with a great cocktail in hand, with a barman waiting for you.

Overall experience- almost too good, and a bit overwhelming at times. If this is your thing-go, you won`t regret it. We stayed in May, and the hotel was very quiet, only a few guests, it will probably be different in August when the hotel is full .

Room Tip: for sunshine choose non-sea view; for views-sea view

Dear Ms Julia,
Thank you very much for your kind review on Trip Advisor. We are very glad that you appreciated our breakfast , the views, the dinner and the swimming pool and we are sorry that we couldn’t welcome you at the port ,as we always do with all the guest ,but as you wrote we tried many times to call you without success. As far as the fact that there is no sunshine on the balcony of the sea views rooms, we beg to differ with your opinion. During your stay unfortunately the weather was not very good, but , as everyone can see from the many picture on our website, we have the sun from the morning until the sunset and our resort is in fact very sunny The same swimming pool you mentioned as lovely and facing the sunset is just down the sea view rooms. It is true that may is very quiet and we are happy you loved that but in August and whenever the hotel is full it is possible to enjoy all the services and the facilities and feel pampered and relaxed as if you where the only guest of the hotel. Looking forward to seeing you soon again at Therasia resort Sea & Spa, warm regards.

We stayed here on our honeymoon. We received a complimentary room upgrade to a beautiful sea view. The staff was very attentive, polite, and helpful. Tons of perks including complimentary mini bar, hours d' oeuvre, breakfast ( the most extensive complimentary breakfast bar selection we've seen), robes, welcome drinks and shuttle. We felt very pampered and relaxed. The restaurant served excellent food every night at. Reasonable price, and the sommelier helped us pair each meal with a great local wine. We must return to this piece of heaven on earth. Worth every penny, I highly recommend!

A breathtaking view from our rooms and verandas (we went with our family). Needless to say that we enjoyed a lot the hotel, the very good gourmet restaurant with revisited Sicilian food, the excellent breakfast buffet and of course the staff professionalism and kindness.
In summary, kids and ourselves felt at home while benefiting from a five stars service in a tremendous location, which is in itself the best summary we could make.

We stayed at the Therasia Resort for 3 days during April 2014 and we had the best time. The staff was always very polite and helpful. The room was great, the restaurants of very high standard serving amazing food. We also tried the SPA for a relaxing massage and we were really happy with the service offered. the infinity pool is the best of the Eolian island and the only place where you can see all 6 remaining islands.
I would definitely suggest it to everyone, families or couples.

Room Tip: sea view rooms are the best

Until three years ago my partner and I rarely went back to our holiday destinations. Variety, after all, is the spice of life. Since then we have been to the Therasia Resort 3 times. Nuff said. With a location as excellent as this they couldn't easily go wrong and they don't. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food at the gourmet Cappero restaurant gets better every year and is now star quality. Don't miss it. Yes. Portions are small at the Cappero just as they are in all the food outlets apart from the breakfast buffet. The Therasia would not be the destination of choice for anyone who wants a 24-7 drip feed of sugar, fat and carb. The Therasia is just what a holiday destination for our times should be. You will probably leave in better health than when you arrived, having enjoyed wonderful produce in quantities that won't reduce your life expectancy an taken some opportunities for gentle or strenuous exercise. Skip the excellent shuttle sometimes. Take the beutiful walk to town. Walk up the volcano at least once. It's worth it.

I agree with the previous reviewer in respect of smoking in outside dining areas. There was a memorable occasion in the open air pool bar. Just as we were starting our salad, a couple sat down at the very next table and lit up- which was extraordinary since the entire restaurant was empty at the time. When we moved to another table, they complained to the waiter that we were being 'rude'. Some smokers, admittedly a minority, vent their frustration at the indoor ban by trying to make the outdoor space their own, intentionally making al fresco eating and drinking a no go zone for non-smokers. It can be a problem on the room balcony as well if a smoker is on the terrace next door. We had to change rooms at the Therasia 2 years ago for precisely that reason. But can the Therasia really be expected to take a lead by banning smoking from outdoor areas? Sadly, the al fresco nicotine cloud is the way of the world just at the moment and it needs to be addressed at governmental level. Someone should do a protest cover of the old Martha and the Vandellas track. "Everybody's smoking- they're smoking in the street".
