“Sulphur Mud Baths”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

So many people say how smelly Vulcano is & that they cannot wait to get off the island. Even the Rough Guide & Lonely Planet Guides said as much, so I was dubious about going there.
Don't listen to anyone with decisively negative views on Vulcano because it is absolutely wonderful, yes there is a sulphur smell around the mud baths but it doesn't take over the whole island.
The people on Vulcano are really welcoming & lovely, and its a really good base to use for day trips to the other islands. Also there is the Main crater of Grande Vulcano which is a reasonably easy trek to the top, with amazing views of all the Aeolian Islands.
There is great food & wine to be had on Vulcano, Kayaking. Mud Baths, great swimming, sun bathing, walking and breathtaking views. I stayed for 3 days and enjoyed every last minute - I hope you do too?

“yuk its horrible!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Having been here 15 years ago some things had changed like the charge to get into the mud baths but why would you want to go in there? Is it supposed to be good for you? All it seems to do is turn jewellery black and rot your costume. The smell of sulphur is disgusting and the thick mud is not pleasant. The sea next to it is marginally better but still smelly and the rocks are very slippery. There were a lot of elderly people trying to enjoy it. Sorry but not nice and I couldn't wait to get off Vulcano and away from the terrible smell.

“Good for skin”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

It is supposed to be good for the skin. Fee is 2 Euros for entry, 1 Euro for the shower which last about 2 minutes, and 1 Euro for the locker. Don't take any jewellery or any expensive swimwear. Anything in touch with the mud will be smelled of sulphur for a very good days! If you like putting mineral on your skin, this is the one for you!

“Fun to try once”
Reviewed December 14, 2011

The hot springs were a fun experience to try once, but I probably wouldn't want to do it again. The springs are in a beautiful setting on the island overlooking the sea. Wear an old bathing suit and do not wear jewelry! I ended up trashing my bathing suit after the trip because I couldn't wash out the smell. It was two euros for the entry plus 1 euro for a shower, a towel was another 2.50. It was fun to float in the warm water, lather up with mud and lay in the sun :) Bring flip flops to wear down to the sea to wash off.
