“good value”
Reviewed June 25, 2009

stayed for 4 nights from the 9th june .This is a good value hotel in a very good location. We had a room at the front of the hotel with a balcony overlooking the beach which was just 10m away from our balcony, we had a great view of the setting sun from the balcony. The room itself was a good basic room it had nice beds aircon and tv and with cool marble floors. The bathroom was small but it had everything that was required and the shower was very powerfull. The hotel is about 300m from the port and is surrounded by restaurants and it is an easy walk to the centre. We paid 35euro a night and this was the best value we had in Greece during our trip.

A cheap hotel, really good value! Great location, close to restaurants, banks, transport and shops. Staff is friendly, though we didn't see them much. We were the only guests at the time, so we had the hotel to ourselves! This was really early in the season, so the pool and breakfast service wasn't open, but that didn't bother us. Nice beaches just a 5 min walk away, perfect for us! We only used the room to shower and sleep in, we were there to enjoy Paros and not the inside of a fancy hotel...

I go to Paros at least every other year in May/June and always stay in the Argo. Prices are as good or better than the hotels that line the port front on the way to Argo. It's seen better days but the staff keep it clean. Nice balconies overlooking a beach, fridge, TV,(greek only) plenty of hot water, big bathrooms, tired twin beds, and AC if you wish. They have a lovely pool but I've never seen anyone use it (the beach is accross the street out front.) I've stayed in the Asterias and it wasn't any better (screeching parrot disturbing naps, smaller bathroom/shower area, floors that blackened my socks, and an owner who temporarily lost the fact that I prepaid upon check-in in his computer-he did manage to find it later.) The Oasis Hotel in the port is just as tired and a lot noisier. Maria, the older lady who owns the Argo doesn't really speak English, nor does her aging right hand man, but they are friendly enough folks, and can handle the basics of checking you in or taking care of breakfast. I've never had a problem with the bill or any discrepancies on checking out, but you might want to clarify if there are additional charges for local phone calls or the AC when you check in. There is usually an English speaking bartender in the adjacent bar/lounge and the Argo hire English speaking desk staff when it gets busier in late May. I mainly choose the Argo because it is so close to the Cactus Cafe, run by very good friends (and highly recommended) but I would say the Argo is as good a selection as any of the others of the same vintage in the area. It's has a lot more rooms than most, so it's a good fall back choice if you arrive without reservations and don't want to take a chance on the touts who meet the boats. Because there are still so many empty rooms in early June I've always gotten a pretty good deal on the price.

  • Liked — Location on beach, near Cactus Cafe and other restaurants, access to further beaches
  • Disliked — Nothing, but bear in mind it's a bit old and traditional.

Hotel Argo is well situated. It is directly opposite the town beach and only a short walk from the port. In the evening, it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the town square and main waterfront, where most of the bars and restaurants can be found.

As for the hotel itself, the room exceeded my expectations. I had read some fairly negative reviews about the hotel and was pleased to find that the room had TV, air con and a fridge at no extra charge. The room was clean, with a small balcony overlooking the side road and the beach. Even though the hotel is located on the main road, I didn't regard traffic noise as a problem at all.

As for the pool, I never used it! Not because it didn't look appealing, but because the hotel is so close to the beach that the pool seemed unnecessary. The reception was manned 24 hours, although not all staff spoke English. I would recommend paying cash due to this and the fact that the card machine was broken the whole time we stayed here!

I paid 50 Euro a night in July for the room, which I though represented fair value for money. I would recommend this hotel for anybody who values being close to the beach, and appreciates a pleasant walk in the evening to the main town, rather than being in the centre of all the action.
