The Yria Bungalow hotel is first class in every way. The location, about
10 minutes by taxi from the main port of Parikia, is convenient for the multitude
of tavernas, bars and boutique shops, but is quietly on its own, away from the
noise and bustle of a typical small Greek island port. The bungalows and
grounds are immaculate and a riot of colour, fruit trees, and shaded walkways.
The main building, half-open to the seemingly ever-blue skies, with lots of
welcome shade, is just beautiful, and features a huge very pretty swimming
The bungalows are individual doubles and each has its own shaded and
separated patio, with outside table and chairs, just wonderful for quiet reading
or an evening aperitif. The restaurant and bar offer both inside and outside,
but shaded, attractive tables. The breakfasts are as unassuming or comprehensive
as you wish, and the somewhat limited dinner menu offers excellent meals,
but Relais & Chateaux it is not. Snacks can be had at any time. But who dines
in a hotel, while in a typical Greek island with its many tavernas, offering fish
caught that morning?
Throughout, at Yria, service levels are exemplary. Quietly attentive, with just
the right level of personalisation. On arrival, you are greeted with a welcome cold
towel and an iced fruit cocktail. Luggage is whisked away and next seen in your
bungalow, while you relax for a while in the sumptuous chairs overlooking
the pool and patios.
Yria is about a 5 minute walk down an unsurfaced lane to the beach and sea.
The beach is not well tended and is somewhat stoney and course. There is a
public snack bar available. Not a great beach experience.
The bungalows offer roomy, cooled bedrooms, which are comfortable.
A negative is the lack of electrical outlets, particularly for a laptop, although
there is reliable Wifi. The roomy stand-up showers could do with a little more
water-pressure, but this is a Greek island and everything is not quite 21st century!
Overall, the Yria has very little to complain about and much (MUCH) to commend it.
Just great for comfort, quiet, blazing colour everywhere, and very close to
the port attractions of Parikia. Yria is not for young children.
