“A little oasis”

Not being a religious person but I love architecture particularly ancient. This place is very unusual and an oasis in a holiday mecca. To the side and rear of the buildings is a "pine wood" which offers shelter from the burning hot sun and if you walk through it in the later part of the day, the smell is wonderful! They could do with a few more seats through the length of the wood as when I tried to find somewhere to sit the bench I would have chosen was taken up by a "wanderer" sleeping full length on it. Try the "box of chocolate choc ices" you can buy from the little supermarket next door to the florists at the end of the "wood" . Gorgeous!!

there was not one thing we disliked about Paros, we loved all we saw and did while we were there. It is a wonderful place to visit.

You really need a tour guide or book to get the most out of a visit to the Cathederal of Paros. The baptistry at the side of the Church is full emersion and is still in use today. A very moving experience.

The church is in the middle of Parikia near the port. It is apparently the oldest church in Greece and one of the best preserved examples of Christian architecture in the world. Upstairs you can still see remains of frescos on the walls - it must have been incredible in it's hey day. Its a beautiful church, amazing stonework and a huge brass candleabra! Well worth a look.
