Sunrise Apartments
Ranked #19 of 44 Naoussa B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 29, 2009

We visited Paros from May 21st to Jun 1st 2009 and stayed at the Sunrise Apartments. We have two girls aged 9 and 6 and we have a perfect family room overlooking Naoussa bay. It consists of two separate bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen area and balcony. What suprised us was that the apartment is geared to self cater - (not that we did) yet it felt like a hotel because the room was tidied and towells changed every day. Breakfast was included and conisted of fresh bread (with a selection of jams and butter), coffee, orange juice and lemon drizzle cake. The weather was just gorgeous the whole time to we always eat outside in the pretty courtyard. The children also enjoyed the Tortoise they keep here. They also have Internet access and I'm typing this now at the end of our stay here. (Also handy for charging the iPod)

It's low season at this time - so we literally have the place to ourselves (although I guess it could have 20 rooms). Despite being low season - all the Tavernas are open but perhaps lacking a little in atmosphere because there are few people dining. It's not cheap though. Currently the Euro is about 1:1 with the pound and we are easily spending 60Euros at the evening meal.

Naoussa Centre is 5-10 minutes walk away. It's pretty port and narrow alleys are delightful. There are a lot of beaches on Paros - but they aren't that easy to get to without a car. That said - I think the best for us was Kolybithres - which can be reached by a 10 minute boat ride from Naoussa. It's small but if you have kids it's perfect.

In terms of food all the Tavernas basically have the same menu. We found that after a while we were craving chilli. It's impossible to get unless you drive out to Tao's. Car cost 25 euros@ day.
But our best recommendation came from Ivan. Ivan is a canadian who's lived here since the eighties and runs Kokou horse riding (15 min drive from Naoussa). Fantastic experience was had just going for an hours walk (no trotting) on the horses in the early evening sun. Anyway - Ivan recommended a restaurant in Marpissa. It's on the main road, at an intersection and opposite a pattiserie. Not sure of the name - but its the only one. It clearly is not on the tourist trial - but has easily been our best meal here. The steak was to die for!!! Well recommended.

All in all - a fabulous holiday - but not cheap.

We stayed in the studio for two with sea view, the hotel is accurately represented by its website so I was not disappointed when we arrived. The hotel is a small complex but well maintained with a real Greek feel. The room itself was not huge but more than adequate, when you enter the bathroom is threw the door in front of you (clean and modern with a shower curtain, unusual for Greece!) and the kitchenette is on your right (fridge, sink and hotplates, clean and well equipped with all the pans, plates, glasses etc that you will need). The room opens out on your left where there are two good sized single beds pushed together, both with bedside tables, a large wardrobe, a large mirror and dressing table with a chair. There is also a small wall mounted plasma TV which has BBC World and a few channels that show films in English. The balcony is small but large enough for a nice wooden table and chairs, it looks over the pool area and has a view out to the village and the sea. The room was kept very clean during our stay and the furnishing etc are well maintained, simple but modern. The pool is quite small but fine for a quick swim to cool off, we were staying in the last two weeks of September and we never has to share the pool or pool area with other guests. There are comfortable sun loungers around the pool and you get the sun for most of the day. The owner is very nice and speaks good English, when the reception is open you can use the internet for free. Breakfast is included in the price, you get orange juice, coffee, bread with jams and two slices of sweet cake, it’s not very exciting but it did the job and saved us a few euros. I really liked this hotel and I would recommend it if you are looking for somewhere with a pool that is not too pricey.

The hotel is located at the back of the village of Naoussa, a very short walk to the main street and the white washed alleyways with their boutiques and bars. The modern harbour has a nice promenade lined with tavernas and bars, if you walk beyond the small white church you will find the old harbour, a classic Greek fishing harbour and very beautiful. The best restaurant on the old harbour in our opinion was Naytikon (I think!) it is in the middle of the harbour next to a mini market, the actual restaurant building is very small but they have lots of tables outside on the harbour front. The octopus stifado here was delicious and the prices were much more reasonable than at near by Barbarossa. Watch out for the drinks prices on the old harbour, although a very romantic setting with candles etc you will pay double what you would pay on the main street (where the people watching is also much better!).

The main beach is Aghii Anarghiri, we spent one day there and it was nice enough but there are lots of other beautiful beaches to explore on the island. From Naoussa you can get a bus to Santa Maria which is a good option if the wind is to strong for Aghii Anarghiri, you can also get a bus to Golden Beach which has a long wide stretch of sand and good swimming. My favourite was Kolimbithres, you can get there by boat from Naoussa’s new harbour. The water is shallow and perfect for swimming with good snorkeling.

Last but not least I want to mention our favourite place to eat in Naoussa, a classic Greek taverna called Oinoh. The service was brilliant with a very friendly owner, the food was delicious especially the meatballs and the stifado. Great food for a good price in a lively atmosphere. Oinoh is on a back street in between the bakery and the steps to the big church.

I would highly recommend Naoussa as a destination for Greek Island lovers, and you would be hard pushed to do better than the Sunrise apartments for a great stay.
