We love Mochlos, it never fails to entrance us - so minimal, simple - but there's something more. The island's Minoan site is well excavated, well documented, and totally intriguing. Swim over if its a calm summer day, otherwise find a boat to take you. Take your time. As for the reviewer who suggested you might be tired of Greek salad and souvlaki - well - the fresh fish and fresh calamari here is the best ever.
Hotel Mochlos is charming, old fashioned but perfectly comfortable and clean, the family are lovely and the home made breakfasts a treat (especially the eggs fried in olive oil and home made preserves!)
We've been as a couple and with groups several times and love it.

Room Tip: the end ones have sideways views of the sea and sunset - lovely

We stopped at Mochlos on our way home from a really lovely holiday and were disappointed. The village is very picturesque at night - think Pirates of the Caribbean, with the restaurants clustered around a tiny cove. Sitting watching the moon over the water there was memorable, but during the day the village has little charm and no real beach or swimming area.
The hotel is dated. The furniture in our room was old and someone had kicked a hole in the wardrobe door. The tiny balcony looked out over a building site. Whilst taking a shower, I looked up out of the window to see a man leaning over the balcony next door looking straight in.
The owner asked us not to use the air con if we could help it. We stayed two nights, and the room wasn't made up or cleaned. Breakfast was good, but an extra €8.
The owners were friendly, but I would have been happy pay more for a higher standard.
One last point, if you drive into Mochlos, approach from the Agios Nikolaios end as the road from the Siteia direction is way more scary!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the newer building.

We have stayed with Yanis and Ela at their family hotel during three different summers while doing archeological research at a remote location near this picturesque little fishing village on the eastern end of Crete. Mochlos is beautiful, full of character, and this was a great place for our extended stays each summer. Ela makes a wonderful breakfast for a small extra charge although many mornings we were up early to get to our site and didn't have the heart to drag her out of bed. Hotel Mochlos is not fancy but if you have traveled through Greece and stayed at local style small hotels and pensions this is exactly what you are looking for. They have a plumeria tree that reminded us of our home in Hawaii and a nice courtyard where you can have a leisurely breakfast. We like the rooms in the newer section with a balcony and a little kitchenette. They look over the main intersection of Mochlos which means an occasional car and gypsy vendors with trucks loaded down with produce, household goods, clothes, or collecting scrap metal that come by almost daily to provide some entertainment. You can wander down to the waterfront cafes and restaurants in two minutes. Parking is available at a municipal lot (dirt field) at the end of the street. Say hi to Yanis and Ela for us and when they offer you some verikoko (apricots) say yes.

The hotel is not fancy, but the hosts are friendly and accommodating. We arrived late at night and they gave us fresh fruit (excellent quality in Crete) and drinks. When the lady saw the mosquito bites on my daughter's arm the next morning, she immediately set us up with bug repellent. Breakfast every day was plentiful and came when we wanted. In the afternoons we sat on the terrace and posted our daily adventure onto Facebook (Internet only works there) The hosts brought iced coffee and cakes. The rooms have A/C, which is great, but the sound of the sea through an open window is lovely. The "kitchens" in the room were really not suitable for preparing more than a ham sandwich. There are fridges, but the hot plates are miserable. The rooms are clean and well maintained. There is a market near by. The local restaurants are good, but all pretty much the same. If you are tired of Greek salad and souvlaki, try Demetrius' restaurant-- he is Swiss/Greek-- for steak frites. This is a charming village that has an authentic feel. Try "on the rocks" bar for sundown drinks. The little beach is great for a late afternoon swim to the nearby archeological site on Mochlos island. Authentic village for short stay.

Stayed here for just one night whilst exploring the eastern part of Crete. We arrived in the afternoon and were given a lovely room on the top/2nd Floor. Slightly odd hip bath - awkward to shower in, but for one night ok. The hotel is just off the main harbour/restaurant area, so very quiet. There is a small supermarket close by with a very nice modern bar opposite which we would thoroughly recommend. We can also recommend the restaurant Bogarsi, which is right on the waterfront with views overlooking a tiny beach and the nearby island.
The hotel served an excellent breakfast, everthing fresh including grapes from the vines above the breakfast room! Not bad value at 7.50 euros each, 45 for the room so 60 in total. We enjoyed our day in Mochlos which is a great unspoilt Greek village.

Went to visit my brother in Mochlos and he said he would reserve a hotel for me and my friend. I have to believe it was half because of how nice it was and the other half because of the air conditioning! My brother and his other friends over there for school liked hanging out in my room, which was big enough for about 5 people, and enjoying the air conditioning. It's a really short walk from the restaurants and the shore. On departure they gave us freshly baked banana nut bread.

When I go back to Mochlos to relive the trip with my brother, I'll be staying here!
