I read all the reviews about this hotel before we traveled and to be honest, some i agree with, some I don't....
This 4 day trip, 3 nights b&b cost me £99, so please take that into account, ie TOTAL BARGAIN, so this hotel could only have been getting £20 ish from us as a couple, so that's how I am basing my review.
The rooms were a good size, spotlessly clean and hot water and towells all fine.. minor points, no tea making stuff and small bathroom, but hey, I'm not in there much ! Somebody does comment on the train noise, this is very true, but as it was December and the room windows were well and truly shut it was not a problem, so my advice is to ask for a room at the back of the hotel (non Rhine side) or pack a 99p pair of ear plugs in case it bothers you. I would imagine in the summer the windows would need leaving open ?
Breakfast was perfectly nice, typically german and clearly done on a budget, but I enjoyed it and couldn't fault it for value. The Waitresses were nice to me and even more so as I made some attempt to speak German which they seemed to appreciate.
Hotel location is great, basically opposite the Rhine which can be seen, and if you walk out you can go and sit on the river bank, clearly not in December ! The village of Lahnstein is lovely, very quaint but not a great deal to do there, but not a bad base.
We didn't eat at the hotel, but most of our coach did, feedback was that food was plentiful and good quality, though only one option available, not really any good for me as a vegetarian, which the Germans are not very good at !
If you go out of the hotel and go forward down the main shopping street, turn left at the end onto Adolfstrasse we found a very nice Italian and bit further down a Chinese. Both were very very good, the italian was dirt cheap (around E8 for pizza/pasta) and lovely, the Chinese was a bit more expensive around E10 for main dish, but well worth it and both restaurants had an english menu if you asked.
In short, good value budget hotel, its not sheer luxury, but if that's what you want then I suggest you delve a bit deeper into your'e pockets !! I would stay here again without question and found it clean, tidy and well located.
