Very enjoyable tour, but felt 'left behind' or 'out of place' with tour only in German language. As tour only consisted of a German couple and an English speaking couple, the tour guide could have provided tour in German & English, since he spoke the English language quite well.
Apart from that, very interesting tour of times of old.

Thank Gregory B

This is a wonderful castle, bit of a climb up the steps and cobbled walk ways so you must have good sturdy shoes on, if I had walking difficulties I think this would be better given a miss.

Lots to see as you wander round on your guided tour, a good guide is needed and ours really was very good, she had good humour also which is always fun.

Great views of The Rhine from the top areas and lots of old interesting rooms inside. It would have been good to see more of the castle but it is actually lived in by I think is the Director of Castles ( which is a good choice, I think I would choose this one ! )

A shop, cafe and rest rooms are at the top. Good visit.

I was able to attend an english speaking tour at the castle. It is well worth the visit. It takes you back in time to show life in a medieval castle. The views from the castle are equally amazing. If you love history, this is a great visit.

This was another "inclusive" visit on the holiday otherwise we probably would have passed it by - we have enough castles that are more imposing in the UK. However, we had a brilliant English speaking guide who regaled us with the history and social mores of the times when the castle was relevant, including the "loo" in a closet within the dining room previously described in another review. There were marvelous views from the battlements.
Also it was interesting to learn about the German Castles Preservation Society - not dissimilar to English Heritage.
There is a tea room.restaurant and also a tourist shop (trap), and it made a pleasant break whilst the boat navigated some locks. One proviso is that there are stairs and rough cobbled/ rocky paths to negotiate - could be difficult if you are not sure footed.

Nice people running the place. Many interesting rooms including wine cellar, blacksmith area and torture chamber. Marksburg Castle requires a tour so check to see when a tour in your language is available.
