A true medieval castle with a great view of the Rheine River. Make sure you get the English speaking guide, they are only at noon and 4pm. Be sure to walk back down the mountain to Braubach. Steep but worth it.

Absolutely stunning. The sense of history just leaps out of this place. Some of the access is a bit difficult and if you are not too steady on your feet it may not be the place for you. The guide was very good, full of information and obviously very proud of the Castle. As others have said this is the only Castle on the Rhine not to have been destroyed over the years, so a unique place.

a well preserved castle; we learned a lot about castle life ranging from the dining and cooking facilities to the "learning aids" used in the dungeon.

We were there at the wrong time for the English-language tour, so we took the German tour (the guide was able to help with our questions in English and they provide an English-language guidebook) .. but the structure and contents don't require translation to be impressive.

This is one of the only castles you can tour the interior of on the Rhine River - it is certainly the best preserved over time and the most authentic, as it is one of the only ones that escaped destruction during war. You can only view the castle interior with a tour guide - English tours only run twice a day, but you can join a German tour and they will give you an explanation book in English. We rode the K-D line river boat to Braubach and walked to the castle from the river - its a roughly 30 min hike uphill to the castle (fairly challenging and I am only 29 yrs old) - totally worth the extra effort though.

As part of our Scenic River Cruise we had a medieval banquet at this castle. The approach to it could be challenging for some, if they are unfit or have mobility problems, but Scenic provided bus access for these people. The castle was very much like what a medieval castle would be, not all pretty and decorated like some we had seen, and the banquet was amazing. We were served beer in clay pots, they looked like flower pots!! We had lard instead of butter and the meal itself was quite tasty, although we DID have knives and forks. There was entertainment by the jesters and music and all in all, it was. Wonderfully happy night
