A lovely old style hotel in Germany. Super clean and very central but yes away from the hustle and bustle to minimise the noise. Staff were able to add an extra bed too the room which helped us out enormously.
Staff don't speak English but are helpful and we were able to communicate (plus it's not our right to have english spoekn everywhere!) Ignore the comments about them being rude, we didn't find that at all!!

also as a FYI is you visit in December for the markets we reccomend AArchen on the Saturday and Monschau on the Sunday!

Monschau is an old town with lots of character, including very narrow streets. The hotel is tucked away in the old part of town so getting to the hotel by car is a challenge not to be undertaken by the nervous driver. However, we managed to wend our way through the streets to the hotel and were lucky enough to have pre-booked a garage with the hotel in advance so could park quite close, otherwise you need to park in the public car park down the road.
Having said that it was a lovely hotel, we had a large room on the top floor with a spa bath which was a nice treat. Breakfast was very good and, although English was not spoken much in the hotel, and we do not speak German, we managed to get by fine. The hotel is full of character with narrow and winding staircases which may not suit everybody, but are all part of the charm

Before writing this review I read several of the preceding ones. Whilst I can understand some of the adverse comments I do feel that in some cases the plot has been lost. I too stay in many 5 and 4 star hotels throughout the world and like many other reviewers one comes to expect a certain standard. Monschau is, I submit, somewhat different from the run of the mill plastic 5 star hotels. It is small, there are no 5 stars, indeed it would detract from the ambience of the place were there to be such a venue. If you expect 5 stars then do not go to Monschau, it is as simple as that. The Graf Rolhausen is as good as it gets in the small town and much better than most others. I booked on line and I booked parking. No problem I received my 5% discout for booking direct with the hotel and there was a garage allocated for my use. There are very , very few hotels in the town with parking nearby, it is a fact of life. Yes, it is difficult to find but not impossible , I always find that asking the way when lost works wonders.. The owner and the elderly lady at Reception were all that one could ask for. the room was simple and clean and so there was only local TV, so what disaster is that!!. Breakfast was quite excellent, served by the owner who was again helpful with directions just before leaving. It is 400 years old, it is characterful and it is more than worth the prices charged. In this case who needs stars, just enjoy the place as it is. In any event, given the age of the place and the town things are unlikely to change just because of an adverse review from a visitor looking for something which is just not available. I liked it, I would stay again and I recommend it without reservation!!!

Room Tip: Our room was at the front opposite the church, there were no noise problems whatsoever. Could have b...

We arrived in Monschau late in the evening after a 500 mile drive. Could not find the hotel, so drove out of town to get a decent phone signal only to be told there is no parking at the hotel! All this in German because no one at the hotel spoke any English. As my wife is disabled it was not an option to park out of town - in any case the public car parks were full with carts parked on the verges half way up the hill. In the end we gave in a drove on until we found a lovely little guesthouse in the next village.

What really annoyed us is the hotel website does not make it clear anywhere that there is no parking, and in fact several of the hotel's own photographs show what is quite clearly a car park. Very misleading.

We were booked to spend one night at this hotel a few days ago... We tried in vain to reach the hotel in our car after travelling some 12 hours from the UK. Our Sat nav took us down tiny mountain roads into the deep valley and to the village of Monchau which is not suitable for cars- all narrow cobbled streets! We got stuck, had to back out of the maze, hit dead ends and finally we fled back up the hill until we could safely stop and phone the hotel. They did not speak a word of English but we established there is no car parking. All this in the DARK!! I am disabled and was incredulous that my husband could have gotten this booking so wrong, but he pulled up the web pics and there is a VERY DECEPTIVE pic of a minibus/people mover in a carpark outside a hotel!! This was completely deceptive and we have yet to try to get a refund..... We very quickly pulled into a hotel at the top of the hill and shared our desperate plight. We were given a room, a meal and a very warm welcome and more importantly a safe place to park our car! Hotel Vennblick in Hofen.

Room Tip: No ratings because we could not even get to see the outside let alone the inside!

The hotel was good, nice rooms and a good breakfast. It is not possible to park your car at the hotel. We arrived 1 our to early. We could not stay at the hotel. The hostess was not a friendly person, she did not give us a warm welcome. My friend left his umbrella at the restaurant. The hostess was not willing to help him.

We were 6 motorcyclists who stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel supplied us with a lockable garage for our bikes at a small charge. The hotel is 400 yrs old but you wouldn't know unless told. It had all of the mod cons. It has loads of character, is kept very clean and the maid service was daily. The breakfasts were great, a very good selection of all the popular continental style goodies. It is centrally situated in the "chocolate box" village that is Monschau, I won't look further than this If Iwere to return.
