This hotel has no pretensions. It is very well located in the middle of Monschau. It is comfortable and clean. The room was well furnished if basic, but totally functional. Most importantly, nothing was too much trouble for the owner, Hr Peter. He is clearly (and rightly) proud of what he does and how he presents his hotel. As a base it is a perfect choice for the tourist.

As everyone comments and I must share, breakfast is a big meal – a really enjoyable meal providing you enjoy ham, cheese, eggs and rolls which, luckily, I do.

In short, this hotel represents excellent value for money.

A little confusing on arrival. Door was shut with a sign saying go to shop around corner if shut. We went to shop around the corner to find a sign saying go to hotel around corner if shut!! Got in eventually to find a clean well presented hotel. Breakfast was very good if you like lots of meat and cheese with many varieties of bread. Unfortunately my wife would have preferred yoghurt fruit or cereal but no complaints from me. The place was well situated and good value so i would stay there again.

We stayed one night and had a good experience. Jimmy the owner is friendly and helpful, the location is right bang slap in the centre of the village. Rooms are basic, dated decor but clean, very nice bedding. Great breakfast - 5 different kinds of rolls, big plates of hams, salami, sausage and different cheeses. Eggs if you want them we were full and happy! excellent value .

First let me say that the proprietor is super, super nice, helpful, and friendly. We swapped biers (he gave me a local landbier; I gave him a great keller bier) on our second night there.

However, our room was a bit oddly laid out and furnished. We were in #3 on the first floor with a view of the bakside of the rotes haus. The bed was comfortable, the room large, but the bathroom was tiny and the bathroom door and wall into the room is made of glass. Not good for me as I love darkness when sleeping. Once my wife awoke and was in the bathroom the light brightened the entire room. The shower was tiny but nicely redone with granite walls. But it was so, so small. I can deal with the small size but the light shining into the bed area was really bad. Plus, from the left side of the bed, getting to the bathroom was kinda difficult as the space between the bed and corner wall was pretty small. I had to kinda feel my way along the wall, turn, turn again, then into the bathroom.

Disappointingly, I'd requested a room with 1/2 timbering and was told (understandably) that not all rooms are timbered and it would depend on occupancy. Totally understandable. But on our first night there the hotel had only two room occupied. The second night had four occupied. Had the hotel been nearly full I wouldn't even mention this. But it was pretty empty both nights.

Breakfast, on the other hand, was fantastic. The breads, meats, and cheeses were all fresh (definitely not from Aldi/Lidl or the like) and more than plentiful. We were even offered to take the leftovers with us for lunch (we declined). The breakfast was very, very good.

Location of the hotel is great. But Monschau is a tiny village so everything is within 500 meters of the hotel regardless.

Lovely proprietor but the room was very basic. If we were to return to Monschau for another overnight we'd likely opt for a ferienwohnung haus (self catered flat) instead of the Burg Hotel.

Room Tip: Don't get #3

We were greeted by Nadeem alias 'Jimmy' and made to feel welcome from the start. He was always willing to chat and very helpful throughout our stay with recommendations of where to go and what to do. This is a charming old hotel that has been sympathetically renovated. It is clean throughout and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was superb with plenty to eat and a very good variety of meats and bread. Scrambled eggs were scrumptious. Would we go back? Oh yes, and soon hopefully.
