“Good bits and not so good bits”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2013

The good thing about the hotel was the mattress was really comfortable and the rooms were quiet and warm (it was -11 outside at night). The pool was good and the nicest part of the hotel. The not so good were that the staff were a surly bunch, the room was a mish mash of cheap fittings (not sure where they took the photo from). Internet was 5 euros per day. The food was fine, not delicious, not horrible just fine.

We've used the Carat, or the nearby Lindenhof, on a number of occasions now as a base for touring the Eifel region by bike. We were in Monschau over Easter, and as usual, had a very friendly welcome from hotel staff, who allowed us to park our motorbikes under the roof by reception. This was useful because it snowed.

The hotel is nicely appointed and comfortable. The room was a twin, with two single beds, two small armchairs, a desk, and a TV with only one English language channel (BBC World). The ensuite was spacious, with a loo, sink and over the bath shower controlled from the taps. All nicely clean, and it looked as though the room had been recently redecorated.

Food in the restaurant is buffet style. Breakfast was a quintessentially continental affair, with fresh bread and rolls, fruit, ham, cheese, cereal and a hot buffet. Equally the evening hot buffet was soup, salad and cold meat, with 6 hot choices including one fish. Veg was a bit thin on the ground, but there was plenty of salad. Staff were in all cases very friendly and not pushy or in-your-face at all, even when the restaurant was busy.

We used both the wired internet in the room, and the wifi via a password from reception, and weren't charged.

Overall, very nice for 4 nights, and convenient for Eifel touring, Spa circuit (40km), and the Nurburgring (70km).

Room Tip: 5th or 6th floor are quietest; ask for a higher number room and you'll be away from the pool and...

Fairly easy to find hotel just over the border from Belgium and a good location for the historic 'city' of Monschau.
Bedrooms quite dark but 'public' areas better.
Nice swimming pool and leisure facilities.
We were on the half-board option : Dinner felt 'rushed' - staff were constantly at table clearing away but there was a good variety of food although not much "fresh" vegetables.
Breakfast choice was also good.
Our bedroom suffered from machinery noise (lift, pool pump next to room?)
For what we paid, though, overall it was fairly good value for money.
Suggest pre-booking car parking as not many spaces especially at weekends and quite expensive, in comparison, to park near the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the 5th floor as that's where the leisure facilities are and may contribute to higher nois...

Went there for one night, just to visit the nice little town. It's a good hotel; bit old fashioned but just the way I like it for regions like this. It has all the amenities you want, friendly people. No issues whatsoever, we were happy. There are always things you could whine about, going from the excess of chlorine in the pool to the thickness of the pillows, but that's useless nitpicking that the hotel actually doesn't deserve. We enjoyed our stay, and that's it.

Stayed in this hotel 23/12/12 - 27/12/12, as a Christmas holiday. My first Christmas break as a solo, but as it was a coach trip there was plenty of good company. The bedroom I had was big and the beds comfy [but hot even with the air conditioning off and window open], Bathroom had shower over bath, washbasin, toilet and a powerful hairdrier.BUT take a kettle. The resteraunt was pleasant with a buffet breakfast served 7 -10am and a buffet dinner 6-9pm, same seating but anytime eating, what a choice in every meal -5 star menu, and beautifully cooked. The village itself was charming with a glass factory and craft outlet the far side of the village with a resteraunt. A good calorie busting brisk walk after Christmas lunch which unforunately was not a British Christmas lunch but never mind. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: TAKE a kettle if you require room teas/coffees.

We stayed at this hotel because the usual one we stay at in Monschau was booked out but we were very happy with the hotel. We usually prefer the smaller, family hotels but the staff at this one were very attentive and helpful. The hotel was good value for money and the room was comfortable and clean. The buffet breakfast was one of the best we have had in Germany with a very large choice.

Ideally situated hotel for the villiage of Monschau only a 10 minute walk downhill. At thie time of year there is snow which gives the area a wonderful appeal. The Hotel is warm and rooms comfortable. A good choice of food in the restaurant especially at breakfast.
Staff in the bar tend to be slow to serve. There is a small swimming pool.
The worst thing is there apears to be only 1 small lift to serve 6 floors which is not good when there is luggage to be taken. There are some rooms on the ground floor.
As usual in Europe you need to take a kettle etc.
