The location for this hotel was perfect. Nobody speaks English (or good English at least), all material, brochures and so on, are only available in German. TV in room was old-style big tv with tiny screen. Wifi was free but only available in reception, bummer. Spa area was good. Food was OK, but buffet wasn't refilled when things run out. When I finished dining, there where 1/3 of the deserts left. This was 2h before the buffet was closing.

Firstly, this is not a B&B but a large hotel so not sure why it's listed as such.
It is an impressive building high up in the town, but uses various buildings close by for apartment type rooms. Nice gardens with seating, and a pool etc.
Our greeting at reception was a bit cursory, particularly given that we had struggled up the hill with our cases in the afternoon heat - but no greeting other than fill in the form and had us our key. No explanation regarding the room, the use of the pool etc.or that we could use the tourist train for free. No help with luggage either, or anyone to show us to our room and show us where things were.
Secondly there was no housekeeping in our apartment during our four day stay - no towels changed, bed made, bathroom or kitchen bins emptied.
Thirdly, the next door apartment's bathroom window opened onto our balcony which prevented us from using it on the last morning when the next door room was occupied. Also the balcony furniture was a bit cheap and plastic.
The quality of the room was good, and bathroom nice etc but above things let it down really, so this was not the best hotel of five we stayed in on this trip.

We stayed for 2 nights in July 2011.(High season so highish prices) Hotel was close to the sight we came to Rugen for being Prora! The hotel itself does not look much from the outside however inside it has a nice period Art Deco feel and look to it. The room was excellent large well furnished and very clean. For one night we ate in the hotel's restaurant which had more of a bistro feel to it than a formal restaurant. The menu whilst nothing startling was good, and the food very well prepared. (Staff were also very helpful as our German is not great to say the least). We also used the pool and sauna both of which again were good.In particular we liked the downstairs bar, which is very well stocked which was run by an excellent chap who keeps Scottish Spring water to go with your malt whiskey! Excellent attention to detail is everywhere. Our only real issue or issues were that. 1. The reception staff knew very little about Prora (It is a MASSIVE buliding that in truth is the main reason most Non German's visit the area for). Minor point really though.2. Also we paid for and asked the reception to post about 8 postcards for us. None of them arrived!! Which was disappointing.Sounds very unlike the German postal system to us! Anyway apart form these two points it would of been a 5 for us!

We´ve spent a long weekend in the low season here and had a great time. Even if there was low season, the hotel was packed, probably due to the low-season-promotions. The high occupancy wasn´t a problem, though.
Our room was spacious and tidy, the bathroom well equipped. We missed a fridge, though. It was probably built in the kitchenette, which cost extra.
The pool and sauna area is big enough even for high occupancies, it offers a small salt water pool (maybe 12 meters long) and three saunas. When we were there, the cold water pool wasn´t available, though, you could go outside, though, to cool off.
The restaurant is ambitious, on some nights, there is only buffet available, which came as a good value, when we were there, at only 15 Euro per person.
Breakfast buffet didn´t quite meet our expectations. The variety and quality of the food offered isn´t quite up to the otherwise high standards.
The best thing about the hotel is its staff. Everybody was friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome including cleaning staff, reception or waiters!

The Hotel Hanseatic Ruegen is a beautiful property. We had a very nice room with a small hidden kitchenette & floor to ceiling windows that opened to a sea view. The view was obstructed but, still nice. The room itself was very nicely furnished & comfortable. The restaurants were gorgeous with wonderful menus. The breakfast buffet had an enormous selection and was in such a lovely setting. We also used the pool area, which was also lovely but could have used a hot tub. The hotel was within walking distance of the sea and many nice restaurants.

Overall, this was such a beautiful place. I think that the Isle of Ruegen doesn't entertain a lot of English speakers, so you'd be wise to have a phrase book or at least a basic knowledge of German. This was not one of those places where everyone speaks English! We had an absolutely amazing time hiking to and along the chalk cliffs, and walking along the pier.
