“Exhilarating and Re-energising”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

I first stayed at Hotel Fueriger Tatzlwurm in January 2013,for 3 days, at a company sales conference. Very good experience, so much so I returned there with my partner for a long weekend in December. Very relaxing, very good staff, excellent food, great facilities, beautiful location.. We left there re-energised. Next time we will visit in Sproing/Summer.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night whilst on business.
The room was very spacious and clean, and the shower was excellent.

Ate evening meal with my colleagues (2 of which were German).
Food choice was good and the staff all had excellent English skills.

We arrived after dark so were looking forward to seeing the great view the next day, unfortunately the weather was very foggy so didn't really get to see the mountain views.

Would stay here again, although I think it is better suited to the travelling couple rather than business users.

A lovely interiour, a fancy menu. Nice traditional clothes also from many of the guests.
But the service is very poor and it is overpriced for what you get.
Guests in bathrobe must walk from swimmingpool/sauna through the restaurant to somewhere.
We, less then casual clothed, may not sit in other nicer restaurants (reserved or are we too shaggy?) The female owner is friendly and caring but waiter Dirk must learn to give some more
attention. We spoiled beer and got a new tablecloth but he forgot to give new napkins. People came asking if anything was ok when our glasses were just filled but when they are empty or when we wanted to go, nobody shows up.
We choosed Herrenplatte for two persons, nearly 55 euro. The quality and quantity was good but the amount of meat was very scrapy (wild sheep, wild pig and venison; together not more than about 150 grams of pure meat (I worked in a butchery so I know about volume and weights of meat). The taste was excellent.
We asked for one glass of Slyrs, the Bavarian whiskey. We have seen it elsewhere for 2,50 2 cl of 5 euro 4 cl. We didn't get any choise for the quantity and expected 2 cl. It was a generous glass for 2 cl but when the bill came it said 4 cl for 9,20 euro. It was at the maximum 2,5 or 3 cl but Dirk denied our claim and said he himself poored it in. There was not an measure for 4 cl although 2 cl was marked with a stripe on the glass (obligated in Germany).

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. We arrived about an hour and a half earlier than the stated check in of 14.00 hrs. The receptionist was extremely frosty towards me and I was told we were too early and to come back. I asked if I could use the hotels toilet facilities and was flatly refused. Even though later upon investigation, I discovered across from the main reception the restaurant area housed toilets for general use. This "frosty receptionist " could have directed me to use the hotel toilets and even store our luggage in reception until our return.
We went for a drive and I very much at this stage did not want to return to this hotel. However, as we had booked a two night stay we returned later to check in and this receptionist kept her back towards us and let a young man check us in. I would not recommend this hotel to English people who have a limited German vocabulary, even though most of the staff are able to speak English.

Hidden in a nice valley of the Bavarian Alps, this beautiful hotel offers nice and warm hospitality, nice nature in the surroundings, great spa and lots of hike possibilities.
The rooms are big, warm and comfortable, the service is attentive and friendly, you can get advantage of the indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam bath. Just outside the hotel there is a pond where you can also bath. Just 5 minutes walking and you'll get to the Tatzelwurm waterfalls, scenic and surrounded by the aura of legends. The German Alps Road passes nearby and can lead you to enjoy beautiful views.
In the morning you start your day with a sumptuous and rich breakfast, then you have time for yourself and your relax. A great staying.

The hotel Feuriger Tatzlwurm is a great hotel in a great location. It is located about 15 driving minutes from the center of the village of Oberaudorf in a very quiet and rural setting. The hotel premises are beautifully landscaped and include a cute little lake. There are plenty of hiking trails around the hotel, and the eponymous Tatzlwurm waterfall is only a 10-minute walk away. The Tatzlwurm hotel markets itself as a "wellness" hotel and offers a large swimming pool, sauna, and spa services.

We had a junior suite that had a very nice view of the hotel lake and, of course, the alps. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. The unique interior design is modern with some traditional rustic wood elements. Our suite also came with a real cowhide rug, so if you have strong feelings about animals being turned into rugs and hamburgers then the Tatzlwurm might not be an ideal choice for you.

A somewhat peculiar feature of the Tatzlwurm junior suites is the open bathroom layout. The bathroom is separated from the main room only by a (non-frosted) glass door. Inside the bathroom, there is a three feet tall little wall with a little (frosted) glass gate that encloses the toilet. In other words, you can maintain eye contact with your room-mate or partner while you're sitting on the john. On the other hand, if you are a very private person or suffer from digestive troubles then this set-up may turn out somewhat problematic (see the photo to get a better idea of the bathroom layout).

The breakfast buffet is top notch and offers a large variety of breads and breakfast buns, cereals, and hot breakfast items. There is also a big selection of hot and cold drinks (the fruity whey drink is especially recommendable).

As we stayed only for one night we didn't have much contact with the service staff. When we wanted to take a shower in the morning we noticed that there was no shampoo left in the installed dispenser, so we called housekeeping and requested some shampoo. Thirty minutes later finally someone shows up and brings... hand soap (to be clear: I'm a German native speaker, so it was not a communication problem).

All things considered, the Tatzlwurm can be definitely recommended if you want to enjoy a couple of relaxing days in Upper Bavaria.

I was staying at the Hotel Feuriger Tatzlwurm for a wedding I was attending this summer. The room was a "Junior Suite" in a part of the establishment called the Dragon Kingdom. The room was exquisitely furnished and decorated with warm, raw materials (stone, metal, glass and wood) hinting to the raw elements of a dragons kingdom. I was equally amassed by the beauty of the mountain landscape outside my window. The beds were large and welcoming and the bed linen was a dream. Housekeeping was perfect and the service was spotless.

A few steps from my room were the pool and spa with wide full height windows yielding a powerful view of the surrounding mountains. For an outdoor adventure there are easy access hiking trails starting just back of the hotel, leading past a mighty waterfall and up to the top of the mountain.

As soon as I left the hotel I started dreaming of returning here for a winter holiday.
