“Modern but not cheap”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

We came to Esslingen for the Christmas market (which is one of the best we've seen, by the way). This hotel was only about a block and a half from the start of the market, so it was very convenient. We paid 105 Euros for a weekend night, which we thought was quite reasonable for a downtown hotel during an event.

This is a "themed" hotel, an ecological hotel. It's hypoallergenic, lots of the breakfast choices are "bio" (German organic), and the design is environmentally friendly. It's attached to the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, what we would call an engineering school, so I'm sure that during the school year there are lots of students nearby. But when we were here, it was quiet. I loved the rush of the canal outside the window; I left the window open so it could lull us to sleep.

I personally enjoyed the spare look of the room. It was easy to see that the place was clean. And the furniture wasn't flimsy or cheap. In fact, the mattresses were quite good. We had a corner room, though, so we got light from two directions, and that was very nice. The curtains aren't blackout curtains, but they darkened the room somewhat, enough that we were able to nap after we arrived. The only thing we would have changed would be the paint color, which was an industrial putty color. A warmer white would have been nice.

This hotel has free wifi Internet, which is a huge plus, and it worked even in our distant corner room. However, the desk clerk neglected to mention that I needed to sign up each device with its own login (good for 24 hours). This took two trips down to the front desk. So if you want Internet access, I'd mention it on check-in.

We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, although I must admit that the scrambled eggs were terrible. The bread, though, was excellent quality. The long tables awakened PTSD flashbacks to high school, but we all got along and respected one another's privacy.

Armed with the information from other reviews, we parked at the Küferstraße / Altstadt parking garage. We plugged Ritterstrasse 17 into our GPS and then looked for the blue P sign to the right. That allowed us to park almost right at the hotel (depending on which exit you take from the garage). We paid 9 Euro 50 for a little over 24 hours.

Room Tip: We had 122, which was a corner room overlooking the canal--very nice.

The really good thing about ecoinn is that it is very central and that the prices are decent. There is no parking lot at all, though. You will have to park quite a way away, which will cost you extra of course. The rooms are big enough and quite clean, but really undecorated, without any atmosphere. Back rooms look out to the canal, which is nice, but you can't leave the windows open at night, because there is some sort of meeting place for young people which is quite loud. The breakfast room is very basic (no chairs), breakfast doesn't really offer an abundance, but basically it's OK. So, ecoinn is fine for a short stay in town, but I wouldn't recommend it for a longer period of time.

This was our second stay in this hotel and we were once again very satisfied.

-Check in couldn't be any easier.

-the room was quite big, clean, the matresses were comfortable. The only thing worth mentioning is that the double bed is made up of two beds which tend to distance themselves from each other :-)

- the location is great: right in the city centre, a bus stop just around the corner.

- it is true that it is almost impossible to find a parking spot in the street. But a two minutes' walk away there is a public carpark, 24 hours cost 8€, which we found quite affordable. The parking spots in there are the biggest I have ever seen! So one can even park larger cars there, and still have enough space!

- the breakfast room reminds of a youth hostel with those large tables, but there are people of all age groups!
Breakfast includes a reasonable choice of cereals, bread, cake, fruit, eggs, cheese, ham,... Having some food allergies we had to ask about some ingredients, staff was friendly and helpful.

All in all I can say that this is place is good value for money, and I would definitely return there a third time.

Room Tip: In rooms on the ground floor you will have to keep the curtains closed, unless you want to be seen b...

The hotel calls itself a hotel on the campus. It is directly across from the university. The rooms are basic, but clean and spacious. It is centrally located and takes a few minutes to walk to the old part of town. We were lucky to find free parking on the street for one night. Breakfast was included and there were enough choices of fresh bread, rolls, yogurt, fruit, cheese and beverages. Esslingen is a beautiful town and we plan to come back eventually at Christmas time to experience the wonderful holiday markets.

Excellent value hotel - 49 Euro for a single, breakfast included; everything fairly simple, but clean and efficient. Hotel is located canal-side on a quiet dead-end street (so you'll need good directions to find it) - adjacent to a technical college (to which it may be connected); and ideally situated to visit one of Germany's larger and better-preserved, but relatively unknown and untouristed old towns. (Not clear why Esslingen isn't more popular - lies just outside Suttgart in a busy industrial region, to which its old town is a most welcome contrast; with three fine medieval churches and three city halls, each in a different style. But while there are plenty of restaurants, there is a lack of tourist hotels in the old town - Ecoinn, just outside the perimeter road, is the best-placed)
The only problem I had with the hotel is that it was too warm to leave the window closed, and the street below attracted a group of young people who talked loudly into the early-morning hours. Otherwise, a strong recommendation for this hotel: and certainly for Esslingen itself.

Had a double room, as all singles taken, for my stay at front of hotel. Clean basic facilities and simple breakfast buffet. Given the room price 56euro/night including breakfast couldn't expect more. Close to the town with a good selection of restaurants. If tey had free wi-fi it would be perfect. Would stay again.

Great place to stay. Staff very helpful. Breakfast excellent, Great location, a bit hard to find the first time, only because locals seem not to be aware of it. low profile,, we liked that.
Close to eating places, and food stores. Walking distance of everything. Clean. We liked the river etc outside. The river and its function are interesting.
