The surprise being that the hotel is listed as a three-star hotel - but we found it to be a five-star experience. The location, about 2 kilometers outside of beautiful Lourmarin is quiet and serene and the hotel sits in the midst of acres of gardens. Obviously there has been fairly recent and extensive refurbishments and extensions so the hotel looks fresh and well maintained. There is a large walled pool terrace.
Our room was spacious and certainly not lacking in any of the amenities you would expect to find in a 4 or 5 star hotel.
We had booked half board so enjoyed a really superb dinner, with a bottle of very acceptable wine included.
Service throughout was friendly and efficient. All in all a faultless one night stopover that I am happy to recommend. Given the standard of the rooms, the facilities and the delights of the restaurant, it represents extremely good value for money

When you enter your room, at first you are immediately informed on a leaflet - in red and bold letters! - that "pick-nick" is strictly forbidden in the entire hotel and in the park. You find this reminder again in other handouts of the hotel.
On the other hand, if you find yourself in the park or at the pool, you will not see anybody offering you a service. If you wish to have a drink or a coffee, you need to go yourself to the reception and ask for it.
At the first attempt we just got one very small glas of white wine, not cooled, for 5€. At the second day, I asked for a bottle of wine. Unfortunately, so I was told, this would not be available except in the restaurant, only glasses would be served, and ice would not be available. OK, after some time of convincing work, we received what we liked to have.
But the embarrassing way of reminding guests at the very outset that pick-nicking is not allowed (I do not know any other hotel of a certain standard which puts this issue forward in such an offensive way), combined with a lack of basic service, unveils a cumbersome approach of the management to service quality.

It shall be mentioned as well that the hotel shows a beautiful environment with a very nice pool. The rooms are fine, even if partly either the room or the bath are small. Unfortunately, the shower handles can not be hooked up as hooks are missing (we know this at least from two bathrooms), so you have to held them yourself.

The hotel is a but outside Lourmarin a 5 min drive. This is an old mansion with a big garden and a wonderful pool area surrounded by tall pine trees. Very picturesque yet so exquisite.

This Relais de Silence has to be one of the best Relais in France. Idyllic location at the foot of the Luberon mountains mid way between Aix-en-Provence and Apt.
The rooms are sumptuous, the service exceptional, and the restaurant an undiscovered Michelin standard.
Surrounded by fields and vineyards a truly relaxing place to stay while discovering "real" Provence.

Room Tip: All rooms are brilliant.

I am again puzzled by the very different experiences people have at the same place. We stayed here by chance, arriving in Lourmarin without a reservation. The Bastide was full and the Moulin was closed. We had a very nice room, superior grade I think, up some stairs. They were "lightly" staffed but the desk manager did carry our bags up for us. The grounds are lovely, the old building charming. It was cool so all meals were inside. There are many seating areas available for relaxing in and one for looking at the sunset. There is a room for internet which was on and off because of local transmission problems totally unrelated to the hotel. We had two excellent dinners and one lovely breakfast. The dining room is supervised by the wife of the chef owner and she was helpful and charming to us. We were there at the end of the season and the dining room was uncrowded so maybe that helped things all around. I would recommend this spot both for itself and its great location for touring the Vaucluse and its proximity to Lourmarin, a charming village with many nice places to eat.

We stayed her recently as we were in the area for a wedding, I wish we hadn't had bothered.

The staff and espescially the manager/owner were extremely rude and unhelpful. When I asked to borrow an iron - a normal request at any hotel in the world - I was told this was not possible as guests could not be trusted to use these in their rooms. I asked to if I could use one in one of the communal areas and was told again that this was not possible for no apparent reason that I could understand. They had a laundry service but this was shut. The manager was extremely unhelpful and the result was that I had to go to a wedding looking extremely scruffy.

Breakfast was poor value.
The room was small and dark and again not great value.

This is a very charming village and I am sure there are more friendly places to stay - if this is the only place available - sleep in your car!

The location of the hotel is marvellous. Stunning view from the terrace, lots of space for relaxing without being disturbed. Large pool with beautiful restroom and shower room.

The rooms are quite small, but equipped in the typical provencial style. No wireless in the rooms, even in the lobby it did not work correctly. As the building is old, some noise from neighbour rooms.

The service is very friendly, even if partly not fully experienced (one waiter). The breakfast is very good, and it is really a pleasure to take it on the huge and lovely terrace.
The dinner in the evening was disappointing: expensive, not at all tasteful. Not to be recommended. Only the surrounding in the restaurant is beautiful, but request a table at the window, otherwise you might be placed at the backside, lacking the beautiful view.
