“Stop over in Poitiers”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

A lovely, beautifully kept house in a village close to Poitiers.

Great hosts, heated pool, lovely gardens.

Excellent Chateaubriand in a nearby restaurant recommended by the owners. They also provide delicious evening meals.

We stayed 3 nights at la Roseraie where we occupied 3 charming and very comfortable bedrooms.
The hosts are friendly and very effective and the place is really well run. We enjoyed relaxing at the pool which is in the middle of a beautiful garden. Our kids and teenagers loved the place and the feeling of freedom in the big garden and the quiet village

We have just returned back to the UK after 2 weeks at La Roseraie. We had a glorious fortnight of sunshine and relaxation. When we arrived, Michael (the owner) welcomed us and gave us a helpful tour of the facilities and our gite. Throughout our stay, Michael and his wife Heather were always on hand to answer any queries and offer guidance on surrounding tourist attractions. Our gite (L'Atelier) was very well equipped and was extremely comfortable. We also enjoyed using our own patio area which was a beautiful place to enjoy an evening meal/barbeque. During the day we made full use of the luxurious pool area which we all enjoyed having a cool down in. Our girls also enjoyed using the ping pong table. They especially enjoyed making friends with the canine residents of La Roseraie- aka Bella and Barbie, the two Jack Russells! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend La Roseraie as a fantastic place to stay whilst exploring this beautiful region of France.

It is especially nice, when our guests stay for a longer period, such as the two weeks you were with us. We appreciate the opportunity to get to know you and, more importantly, we feel that you are able to enjoy a proper, relaxing holiday. Thank you for your feedback - we keep trying to make the gites and the B&B rooms even better and it is gratifying to hear that your stay was a happy one. Barbie and Bella are currently sunning themselves on the front lawn, being occasionally disturbed by the automatic lawnmower. Michael and I hope that you had a good return trip and that you and the girls are happy to be home. Do come again - we will be very happy to see you - tell Peter that I think of him jogging, when I am doing my early morning walks around the local villages. Love to you all, Heather and Michael

Heather and Michael are very helpful and warm hosts who are most obliging to help with all our enquiries (before and during our stay) about horseriding, restauarants etc.. Izzy was wonderful too, so helpful and accommodating.

It was very hot when we were there and on the first night we couldn't sleep and asked for a fan. When we returned from a trip that day... voila in our room we had a fan.

The homemade jams were amazing!!!

Had a wonderful time at the Roseraie.

I must admit, I was disconcerted when I discovered, on serving dinner to you and our other guests, that we had a professional chef amongst our diners! No pressure then......

Thank you for coming to stay at La Roseraie - we would love to visit your restaurant in London, the next time we are in the UK. It was a great pleasure for us to meet you and to enjoy the interesting conversations. As I think I may have mentioned, I have found another Pony Club for Kelly (and any other children who would love to ride} so we have even more options! Michael joins me in sending warm wishes and Barbie asked me to say "woof" to Kelly

The stunning grounds and house are in keeping with one's thoughts for this beautiful district.
A wonderful blend of rustic surroundings and very well kept rooms provide a lovely environment for a mixture of family's and couples to relax and enjoy the countryside, with friendly hosts Michael and Heather providing helpful information, beautiful food and the occasional tale.
La roseraie is excellent value and one I strongly recommend.

We have just returned from La Roseraie after a 2 week stay in Gite Margurite and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Heather and Michael (and the lovely Izzy who could not be forgotten!) were warm and friendly hosts who made our stay with them so very enjoyable. Having read some previous reviews, I would say that some of the negative views in respect of Michael were polar opposite to our experience of him. He is a warm and friendly man, who took time out to chat to us each day, have a drink with us on occasion and enjoy a good bit of banter. We could not fault him.

We were travelling with our 2 young children (both under the age of 2) and found La Roseraie to be a wonderful place to unwind as a family. It is a real bonus that La Roseraie can provide food as it allowed us to put the children to bed and then dine with the adults - all within range of a baby monitor!

We ate at La Roseraie on 2 occasions and were delighted with the food and service. It is a lovely opportunity to sit around and talk with other guests enjoying wonderfully made food accompanied by delicious wine. Heather works hard on her menu choices and it shows. In fact we ate at the local Michelin restaurant on one night and we agreed that we had enjoyed ourselves more eating at La Roseraie. Izzy babysat our children which was another great feature of La Roseraie.

Ours was a short notice overnight stay following a breakdown (with car) in Boulogne which foiled our original plans and delayed our journey south to the Dordogne. Tried booking 2 rooms (for 4 people) the same day and thrilled to find space as we had stayed for a week in 2012 and had got to know Heather & Michael and la Roseraie. Superb rooms, wonderful friendly welcome and simple but beautifully presented dinner (again provided at short notice) on the terrace on a beautifully warm evening. It was truly idyllic with classical music floating from an open window in the house. We did not have time to enjoy the swimming pool or relax in the substantial grounds as we hastened off after breakfast, which had been another treat - fresh and plentiful. Just wished we could have stayed longer but we hope to return. Truly wonderful!

Everybody was uplifted, seeing two beautiful, shiny, vintage cars parked in our courtyard, but better still, we were very happy to welcome you back and to meet your travelling companions. Thank you for your kind comments - we are already looking forward to your next visit! With warm wishes from us all.
