Description: The Guardian has called it 'the best restaurant in France', and Htel Jean-Paul Jeunet was voted 'Establishment of the Year 2006' by the prestigious restaurant guide Gault Millau so its safe to say that the 2-Michelin-starred Restaurant Jean-Paul Jeunet in Arbois is a highly desirable dining destination. Tucked away in a far-flung corner of Jura, the restaurant is renowned for Jeunet's light, contemporary cuisine which is filled with flavours from yesteryear. Best known for using traditional ingredients in exceptional ways, Jeunet's signature dishes include foie gras poached in Macvin caramel; buttered snails cooked in liquorice flavoured bouillon; and warm chocolate soup flavoured with pine bark. The rustic dining room decorated with colourful canvases and an open Franche-Comt fireplace - exudes an atmosphere of hushed awe, and this divine establishment is guaranteed to impress even the most spoiled gourmands.

“Wonderful for a celebration”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2011

Return visitor to this place, always impressed by their professionalism, courtesy and quality. Of course, you have to pay for these things and, for a special occasion, we will do it again.
Arbois is a lovely town that has several good wine producers that offer tastings and a superb chocolate maker

“Absolutely divine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2010

I have eaten in that restaurant three times. Once in family and twice with friend. Simply one of the best restaurant I have ever been. Every single dish offers is of the finest quality. Service is perfect. Jean-Paul Jeunet is concerned about the quality of the food. Once one of my friend didn't finish his foie gras as he was not feeling well. In two minutes the Chef came at our table wondering what was going on... The famous Poularde de Bresse is not to miss! Worth a trip even from Paris to eat there!
Only negative point in the Hotel which is more than average!

“Still glowing from a tremendous meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2010

Tremendous meal here, the highlight of our trip to Jura. The service was befitting a two-star restaurant, although the junior sommeliere was probably new and noticeably nervous. My wife selected the least expensive of the three prix fix options (main dish was a local lake fish), I ordered the duck a la carte. We're not new to the fine dining rodeo, but we left four hours later sated and satisfied in every relevant way -- a top five all-time meal for us.
Interestingly, it's not the individual dishes that stand out, although there truly wasn't a false note the entire night. It was the entire experience of a 7 course meal, plus the many amuses bouche, that made for a wonderful night. Inventive, extremely effectively executed (with fascinating mixtures of tastes that blended yet allowed introspection on the individual flavors) yet unintimidating. And, as befits a region known for its outstanding cuisine, drawing its inspiration from local recipes and ingredients.
My wife is a sommerliere and felt the wines were excellent. I am a less distinguished wine drinker and found them lovely too.
The cheese cart was excellent, with several cheeses we'd never before encountered.
My dessert was perhaps my favorite of all--a fine dish based around homemade bourbon vanilla ice cream. Mouth watering.
Final tally was around $250 after tip. Considering that we were still sated and satisfied basically until dinnertime the next day, money well spent.

“look elsewhere”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2010

We stayed at the Jean-Paul Hotel for two nights and it was a mistake. Our room was expensive. The staff was professional but not particularly friendly. Everything has been over advertised on their website. The weather was very hot so we had to sleep with the windows open because there was no air conditioning. This would not have been a problem if the bell tower across the street did not ring every quarter hour. We were visiting friends or we would have checked out after one night. We chose not to eat in the restaurant because our lodging was so underwhelming that we thought the restaurant would be the same.
