Our 3rd stay at Chateau de la Villaine! We keep returning to this B&B simply because it always lives up to our expectations. Rooms are beautifully decorated, grounds expansive & an excellent location central to everything the Loire Valley has to offer. But what really makes this place so special are the owners Adrian & Joke. They are so welcoming & gracious in every respect. A highlight of our stay is always the delicious, high quality home cooked meals that Joke offers to prepare for her guests at a very reasonable cost. Many of the ingredients are sourced from their own garden! Especially welcome after eating at restaurants whilst travelling! Adrian is very helpful in suggesting day trips & the best, most scenic way to get there. A stay at Chateau de la Villaine makes any visit to the Loire Valley even more special.

It was overall a good experience. Dinner was delicious and we enjoyed mixing with all the other guests. The rooms were a little musty. The entire building was rather dark and I guess while it might have been the "authentic" experience, we felt that more light could have been let in, especially during breakfast! Breakfast was adequate. Our hosts were friendly, informative and very charming, which made up for the dreary accommodations.

We spent 3 nights at Chateau de la Villaine and we were very impressed. We had a very warm welcome to this beautiful chateau and were given tea and cake in the garden on arrival. Our ensuite room was elegant and had a fabulous view overlooking the garden plus it had its own terrace where you can enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down. Bathroom was very nice with both a shower and a bath.
We also took up the opportunity to have dinner at the chateau on the Wed night which we would highly recommend.  We joined the owners and other guests. Joke Gips is an excellent cook and produced a delicious 4 course dinner. We actually thought it was better than a meal we had had at a hotel restaurant run by a "brilliant and talented chef"'. We drank lots of different wines throughout the evening all chosen by Adrian Gips and no headache in the morning which showed they were excellent quality!
The chateau is in Esvres, a lovely little town not far from Tours. Easy access to all the famous chateaux and the many vineyards plus we could do a day trip to Sancerre from there. The owners know the area well and can advise on restaurants and places to go if you need. Easy drive to get to good restaurants in other towns.
All in all we thought this was a great base and we would definitely visit again.

Finding this place & trusting other reviewers on TripAdvisor gave us one THE best stays & homemade French dinner during our trip. My friends & I stayed with Adrian & Joke (the wonderful host) this past April (12th & 13th) as part of our Loire Valley/Normandy tour after running the Paris Marathon.

Adrian & Joke live right in the middle of all the popular chateaus. We started from Paris, stopped by Chamboard and Chaumont before heading here - which gave us enough time to drive around for the day, explore & rest before seeing more the next day. We stayed for two nights since it was rather close to Villandry & Chenonceau. Adrian has plenty of tourist guides to navigate around the area and to help familiarize the different chateaux in the surrounding. We were able to stay upstairs in the 4 person bedroom. Everything was really clean & the showers were very nice.

They also live by a little village that you can drive to for dinner. There's not a whole lot to see at night with maybe 3-4 restaurants to eat at. Everything else closes early or it seems like they never open. I think one night we had dinner at a pizza/creperie spot which was pretty decent.

However, if you have chance where Adrian ask if you'd like dinner at their house, I would seriously consider taking them up on their offer. Homemade French food in France when all we've eaten were pastries & restaurant meals? Not that there is anything wrong with all the gourmet food we had but having a homemade meal just solidified our Parisian experience. It was one of our most memorable meals we've had. Joke made EVERYTHING and she even grows many of the ingredients herself. We had a 4 course dinner - soup (amazing), duck comfit, cheese platter, & yummy chocolate cake for dessert. There was also wine pairings with every meal. They are great conversationalist and we also met their sweet son, who happened to drop by as a surprise for Joke's birthday the following day. We chatted with him & his girlfriend until almost midnight!

Breakfast in the mornings were also very pleasant. We had a gorgeous view of the the landscape and while eating buttery croissants with homemade jams. It doesn't get it any better.

I highly recommend staying here. It made quite a happy impact on our trip!

We had been driving for several days through Normandy when my family and I arrived at this wonderful small château. We were warmly greeted by our host Adrian at our car, who kindly helped us carry our luggage up to our room on the third floor. The room was quite large and nicely decorated with antique furniture and wooden floors. The comfortable beds had cream coloured duvets and lots of pillows. There were two separate bathrooms, -each with a wash basin-, one with the shower and the other with the WC. Joke and Adrian are a lovely Dutch couple who speak several languages and make every effort to make their guests enjoy their stay and feel the charm of fine hospitality. The elegant dining room and beautifully set table, make the perfect scene for Joke's wonderful cooking. Their five course meal the first night was so good we decided to have dinner the second night as well. Adrian led the wine tasting along the meal and was the perfect host at the table. They even had small presents and Easter eggs for my little girl who was completely thrilled when she realized the Easter Bunny had arrived at this remote place from home! We keep dear memories of this place and our hosts and are sure we'll be back sometime.
