Pierre & Vacances Port du Crouesty Holiday Village
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Lovely pool and setting but no sense of security or privacy. All sorts of characters roaming around the resort, which is not private. No freedom for kids. Many of the rooms are upper floor, and with no views, so not easy to enjoy any al fresco evening meals.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room or you tend to be trapped in a flat.

This is the 2nd year we have stayed at this resort. We have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and the pool here is great - with a separate paddling pool alongside the main pool. Our children loved it! The best part of this resort is that everything is within 5 mins walk - the beach, the marina, restaurants and a few shops. There is also a lot of green space for the kids to run around too. It's an excellent resort for a young family who want everything on hand without having to get into the car. Only negative point is that it is obviously catering for French tourists so not much English is spoken and all kids activities, kids club etc are in French but this is no big thing. The accommodation, as said in other reviews, is not really big enough for the number of people they state but we knew this so booked a 7 people apartment for our small family of 4.

P&V must be famous for their creativity in counting persons per unit. We knew this already and that's why we booked an apartment for 6, while being with 2 + child. So we were not dissappointed but again said to eachother that we would have been, if there were three more in our party. We really can't imagine 6 people in the living room. Or you must love eachother a bit too much. If not, I am sure you will not love eachother after this holiday.
We stayed in the 4 star- side of the P&V village. As far as I could see, this meant slightly newer or renovated apartments, a quiet poolside and harbourview. The old village is closer to the beach. The beds felt 'old', unfortunately. My husband didn't fit (1,96 m) and complained about his back the entire holday.

The service is what you can expect from the French. Friendly because the must, not because they are. Not the 'extra mile' that you would like to experience on a holiday. Maintenance is very quick but do there repairs in the French way as well; easy and see where it goes. Meaning you give up after three calls and big repairs were not done. Well, it seems common enough in this culture, so not really an P&V exclusive.

They offer some entertainment but this is in French and very poor English. For children there are special programmes in which they are entertained for a few hours. Staff seemed professional and kids were having fun. But children are all French as well, meaning other nationalities might feel somewhat isolated. That's why we didn'tt sign our daughter in, although we liked this option during our reservation.... so she missed out on a lot of fun and we missed out on some private time. We enrolled her in archery, for which they ask 8 euros per person. This was done outside and also very much in the French way; chaotic and not very constructive. When I told this to reception, we got a heartfelt sorry but no credit, so for what it's worth; first watch another group doing an activity before booking it.

Location :

If you are looking for a typical French holiday, with sweet old vilage, flowered balconies and old bakerey's on every corner; this will be hard to find in Port du Crouesty.
But if you are looking for a modern village with still the best bread and much to do, this is a great choice.

The village is more a harbour in which both French as International (recreational) boats find their place to stay. The shops you find here are therefor very touristic, but much fun to visit. There is a rather big supermarket right on the other side of the harbour, a ten minutes walk from P&V. Right in front of this super is the best bakery, realy worth to strech your legs for!

Personally, I would only like to be there with a car, since the surrounding villages are worth a visit and it also gives you the chance to buy your groceries at Super-U (5 min.) or LeClerq (20 min.). Also, for restuarants; there are a lot but the choice of menu is limited. They all offer a daydeal with mussels or fish, but if you would want to eat something else, you pay double.

There are a lot of fun attractions nearby; P&V is located near an acient cite (although fares are very expensive, 14 euros for not much to see - you are of course maintaining culture), just 5 minutes by car you'll find a Roman hill with beatiful view, there are castle's and beautiful villages for postcard-photographing. Think of the fishermen's boats laying deserted, waiting for flood... those kind of pictures.

But hte best and most fun we had was to go 'fishing', finding crabs, standing in the sea and looking at al the great creatures. Buy a fishersnet and a bucket on your first day (in supermarket, much cheaper!) and you will have the best fun!

Room Tip: Invest in the 4 star side of the village, if you want more peace.

Spent 4 days in one of the two bed Cap Océan apartments with the family (kids 7 & 8) and it was great!

Location: apartment had a balcony overlooking the marina - stunning view. Grassed area outside where the kids played with others. 5 minutes walk to the main reception and heated pool/beach

It was also 5 minute walk to the marina - plenty of shops and restaurants with a lovely atmosphere in the evening. Our kids have scooters and it was perfect for them. There are also two good boulangerie's for bread etc. in the morning

Apartment: very clean, modern and well appointed - compact kitchen but everything you need

Locality: Port Navalo nearby is worth a visit. Nearest town is Sarzeau - has a morning market and good restaurants. About 20 miles away is Vannes - lovely city

Also went to the beach at Penvins (20 minute drive) which is sandy

Facilities: There were two pools - one in our section which was the best to sit at. However not heated and was very cold. The other pool is heated but again not that warm. However as we were there in the last week of August the max air temp was around 24 degrees so maybe better in the height of summer
The beach is a mixture of pebbles and sand - Ok but we preferred the pool
Loads of organised activities for kids and teenagers - we didnt use them but they looked good fun

Any downsides? Other than the pool temperature not really. We had a great time and Port du Crouesty is as good a place as we've been to for a family holiday

Room Tip: Ask for a marina view

We stayed here last summer and I've just found time to write up the report. The apartment we stayed in was a 4 person, 1 bedroom apartment. It was quite small with a pull out sofa bed in the living room. There was a table and small kitchenette with a small bathroom and a smelly toilet. The apartment itself was quite tired and looked in need of redecoration.

The location was excellent, just up from the marina where there were loads of restaurants to choose from, and a wonderful promenade for the evening, Excellent for children as they can play outside while you eat if that's what you want. Also handy for the beach and local walks.

The pools on site were great athough not very warm, and there was kids club included although not many activities as we were there at the end of August.

All in all, a good place to stay but the accomodation is a bit limited

Had an enjoyable stay at the PV village at Port du Croesty. It is clean, well managed and convenient to beach and village. The kids entertainment was well organised. I thought the 6 euro charge for connecting the phone in the apartment a bit excessive, as was the 200 euro deposit for bike hire!

This was our first holiday to France with three children under the age of 6 and a Grand Parent. We had heard that PV Apartments were quite small so we booked the biggest apartment available which had two separate bedrooms upstairs. The apartment was basic, but clean. No kettle. Bring one if you love tea.Our balcony had a nice view over swimming pool which our children loved. Even though we love beaches, we hardly went to the beach which was nearby, because the children loved the pool. Also paddling pool for toddlers. The best part of the holiday was location. We prefer not to have to drive while on holidays and in Port Du Crouesty almost everything is within walking distance. Lots of lovely restaurants which catered for children and we love our food too and were delighted with food on offer. Also selection of shops, hairdresser, supermarket, and the all important bakery all within 5 to 10 mins walk. Fantastic food markets almost every day within 10 mile radius, and other lovely beaches and towns in every direction about 20 mins away. It was a lovely relaxing holiday, no driving, long evening meals, happy children and grand parent. What more could you ask for?
