This was the third occasion we have eaten at Le Fox. On the first, about 5 or 6 years ago, I had the best lobster thermidor I have ever tasted. We thought the standard, though high, had slipped a little on our second visit 4 years ago, and on this visit we agreed that the second Michelin star is in danger.

This is not to say that there were any disastrous courses but, with the exception of the turbot with rhubarb and beetroot, most were only 1 star in quality we felt.

Nevertheless we had a most enjoyable lunch and the bill was not too heavy. The staff were very friendly, and provision of wine on the "wine included" menu was generous as well as well-selected.

Were lucky enough to acquire a cancelled place (hotel + restaurant) during Ascension weekend. Reception very personnal and friendly (we felt more than welcome). Room/breakfast OK.
Meal: we took the menu, which was generally very high quality. Also: many "amuses" (even before desert).
However a few disappointments: 1) there was sand in the cockles (there were only two on the plate so we found it a little exaggerated to send the plate back, but we dit mention it directly afterwards) but no one did a thing with this, no excuse, nothing! 2) it was a 5 course meal so we expected the wine composition (this house is famous for its wine collection!) to count 5 different wines as well. There were only 3. No desert wine.
So: mostly wonderful food, but a few cirtical hickups. What also struck us what that the cook himself walked around a lot (specifically to one table where there were probably regulars).

When making the reservation we were told that the restaurant was fully booked. Nevertheless we received an email that there was a possibility to have a dinner for 2 and so we booked. We went to the restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
A great start, we received a last minute possibility to have dinner in Le Fox and were congratulated with our wedding anniversary.

Upon arrival we were placed on a table which was next to a door leading to the reception of the hotel and a door which was leading to the kitchen. For our romantic dinner not really a nice spot. When I asked if we could have a table at the window I was told that these tables were reserved upfront. And... I really regret that none of the staff / chef / host was making us feel special and congratulated us with our wedding day. A simple thing, but it would made us feel so comfortable and warm. The chef passed several times throught the restaurant and had chats with many of the guests. As far as I understood he is a famous Flamish chef, so a lot of guests knew him from TV.

We ordered a 5 course dinner as well as wine to go with every dish. The food was wonderful and we were enjoining it to the full. The food was good, no surprises. Dishes and wine were served in a professional way, however it was most of the time very hard to hear what food or wine was being served. With regard to the wine I was surprised that only 3 different wines were served. The first dishes were served with the same white wine and the same goes for the red wine served. For dessert no wine was served however this was the 5th course, which meant in our case that we had 4 glasses instead of the 5 glasses promised.

As said the food was good, but in quality we did not see a difference between many Michelin restaurants that work with 1 star. For the wine we were dissapointed in having the same wines (this is such a wonderful opportunity to taste special wines). And with regard to the atmosphere (as well as attention) we feel that the tabel we were seated at is not the most romantic table to be given to a couple wanted to celebrate their wedding day. We had dinner in other Michelin restaurants in the past years and we did not feel that the price and quality were matching (total invoice € 340,-).

Of course we will be sharing this review as well with the restaurant.

We had dinner and stayed one night
The dinner was delicious in a cozy environment and with excellent service
The portions are not too big (which is a good thing) and the flavors are fresh and light
The rooms are very nice , we had a good view on the sea
They have an underground secured parking and valet parking
The breakfast however is rather disappointing, you have to pay extra for eggs or cappuccino and you get a small buffet with very limited choice.
In a place like this, with a 2 star restaurant you would expect a stunning breakfast.

We had a lovely weekend in De Panne and stayed in Le Fox including a excellent meal on saturday evening, deserving its two michelin stars with good food, excellent service, good location...everything as it should be.
The hotel had a nice sized room for us, but the breakfast was not included.
We had to pay 18 Euro's p/p on top of it and were expecting the same quality of food as the restaurant served the evening before. This was the disappointing part. There was little choice, the things that were there were good, but nothing warm, not even a cooked egg.. you could give your guests so much more for that kind of money. So it left a bit of a sad aftertaste, but nevertheless we enjoyed it.
