We stayed in Logis accommodation, Het Manntje, situated 50 metres from the Hotel Cecil. The accommodation we were in didn't provide breakfast but had an arrangement with the Cecil to provide it. On arrival we were met by a friendly, English speaking member of staff who explained what was available ( typical continental breakfast) and to call on him if we needed any further assistance. All food was fresh and neatly presented including hot boiled eggs cooked to perfection unlike the luke warm, hard boiled bullets you usually get..
I got speaking to our host and it turned out he was a career soldier that had recently retired from the army having served as a paratrooper in many war zones. He could speak German, English, French and Belgian and was working at the Cecil in order to keep himself active. It was an absolute pleasure to make his acquaintance.
Because our visit was a last minute decision we were unable to find preferred accommodation in De Panne and settled for the Logis premises referred to previously in this review. Our next visit will definitely include a stop over in the Cecil.
It's worth noting that parking in and around the Cecil is not permitted on Friday evenings or daytimes Saturday because of the local market being held in the Square. There is however free parking within 200 metres on these days.
Hopefully we will be able to comment on the accommodation at the Cecil following our next visit to De Panne.
