I've used this hotel three times now as the organiser of trips for a motorcycle club and as such I've spent many thousands of pounds there. The hotel is comfortable and quirky, with a wide range of dead animal skins adorning the bar and lounge, so not recommended for anyone offended by such things. However the food is good and the rooms clean and generally well kept.

So why the one star? Well frankly I think the owner is money-grabbing to the point of being offensive. I was a little peeved at being unable to have a jug of water with dinner (I was told I had to buy mineral water despite ordering a £40 bottle of wine with my meal) but the the thing that really offended me follows:

I brought 26 guests to the hotel for a three day break, half-board. On the way there, one of our members was tragically killed in a road traffic accident and his partner was put in hospital with a broken leg. Despite neither member staying at the hotel, the owner insisted on charging the victim's partner for the full three nights stay and all their missed meals. Frankly I think such mercenary behavior is so appalling I'll never book there again.

Being close to the E411 yet a world apart, this is an obvious choice when making a long journey to Alsace from Ijmuiden/Zeebrugge. Check-in was very welcoming and our 'standard' room was spacious enough with modern furnishings including a very comfortable bed. The bathroom though a bit small was very clean. The dinner was excellent - just a fixed menu with very tasty and tastefully presented dishes. A reasonable selection of wines at fair prices. There is a bar and lounge furnished in an eclectic fashion with artefacts from all over. Free parking for about 20 cars out front, although care is needed when reversing out as its near a blind bend and when a vehicle approaches it is usually speeding! Overall highly recommended.

Room Tip: Top floor at back quietest.

We were here for only one night on the route down to the Black Forest. Very quaint hotel, with some English spoken and very patient with our very limited French. Good value for money, we went for the half board option and so our stay inclued a 3 course meal. Nicely presented, good food. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection to choose from. Room was huge and overlooked the garden. Would definitely stop here again.

Its a long trip from the ports to Alsace and in recent years we have been stopping en route. We have had disappointments in the Marche en Famenne area but this is a good find on the other side of the E411 auto route. Its located in a tranquil rural area. It has large commodious bedrooms with good size beds and modern en-suites. The 'single' rate is half the double rate for the same size bedrooms - €59 and €118 respectively that includes an excellent breakfast of fresh coffee, fruits, croissants, meats cheeses and boiled eggs. Their evening meal is five courses and cost €25 - again excellent value. The meals are taken in a beautifully laid out dining room. Good range of wines and beers - can be drunk in their large conservatory. The owners made us most welcome and we will be using it again.
