I spent a fantastic time at Haus Hepi, together with 9 friends, in the winter of 2012-2013. We had a wonderful week - had a great time chatting, relaxing and enjoying the fantastic meals cooked by Larry. I have rarely had such a great food! Anyone who loves food - this is the place! The chalet is very cozy and the owners - Larry and Lisa - are very very nice and welcoming. I felt like at home! I also learned to ski - the bus connection is very good, either to Dachstein-West or, closer, to Krippenstein (by car of course is much faster). The village is calm and offers absolutely wonderful surroundings. One can also walk or drive to the nearby locations, Hallstatt lake offers breathtaking views! For the New Year's night - we enjoyed a fantastic fireworks show in the village! I highly recommend Haus Hepi! and I definitely look forward to come back for another winter or summer vacation!

Me and my wife and our friends very simply happy to spend our vacation at Haus Hepi. The food is exclusive. The host is friendly. The cat is shy and modest. We all enjoyed our stay. will recommend to all who seek a quite and cozy place.
what's not quite convenient is relatively far (~20km) to dachstein west, but this is subjective. We didn't have a car, and used ( free!!!) bus which runs not very frequent, I think once per half/hour. Don't recall exactly.

We have previously stayed with Lisa and Larry and on our recent return received a very warm welcome. The level of hospitality is extremely high and nothing is too much trouble. The quality of food produced by Larry is superb and the accommodation is very clean and comfortable. Lisa and Larry provided in depth information of winter attractions and as a result we enjoyed a local Christmas market and skiing with our 4 year old in nearby Gosau. Our previous visit was in the summer when we enjoyed the choice of walks and cycling in the surrounding spectacular lakes and mountains. Thouroughly recommended and excellent value.

My group (wife, sister and brother-in-law) stayed at this wonderful Bed+Breakfast Inn for 4 days last month. The owners--Larry and Lisa--were very gracious hosts and gave us excellent recommendations as to what to see and do in the Lake Hallstatt area. Our rooms were really nice and comfortable with a modern bathroom and a balcony that overlooked the area. The Dachstein Mountains and Lake Hallstatt were visible from our balcony. The breakfasts served at Haus Hepi were very good with a variety of fresh rolls, ham and salami, cheese, eggs, etc. Also, one night, Larry (a former chef) prepared a wonderful dinner for us and other guests. We found Obertraun a delightful town to stay in--much less touristy than the nearby Hallstatt (10 minutes by car). Haus Hepi also had a very nice lounge where we relaxed before going to dinner (there were several restaurants in town we ate at). Haus Hepi was a comfortable and inviting place to stay at and one we would definitely return to--I highly recommend it to others as it is reasonably priced, well located, and run by extremely nice people . It is near all the important sights/things in the area--the Ice Caves, the Salt Mine, Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, St. Wolfgang, Grundlsee, etc.

I was taken to Haus Hepi as part of a surprise birthday trip by my girlfriend in mid October and I wasn't disappointed. The journey from the airport took a little longer than expected due to part of the railway being suspended. However, when we arrived our travel woes were soon forgotten thanks to the warm welcome from our hosts Larry and Lisa. Larry is part welcoming host and part local tour guide. Each morning during our tasty breakfast, he gave us tips on the best places to visit in the local area which proved to be invaluable. Personal highlights included a trip to the nearby ice caves and an enjoyable cycle (on bikes we rented from Haus Hepi) to nearby Halstatt. Obertraun is a nice little town although there are limited places to go for dinner. All in all, the atmosphere in Haus Hepi is warm and welcoming, the breakfast is comprehensive and I would highly recommend it. The only minor criticism I have would be that the beds and pillows aren't the most comfortable in the world but it is a minor gripe. I would highly recommend Haus Hepi to anyone visiting the area, you won't be disappointed!

A first visit to Obertraun and chose Haus Hepi on reading recommendations and was not
one bit disappointed. We found the welcome on arrival warm and friendly the room very good
and the food left us wanting more. First rate in every respect but in a cosy way unlike many
hotels and would hope to visit Larry & Lisa again.
Stunning scenery on the door step what more could you ask for.

Our family of four stayed here for three nights recently and it was one of the nicest places we stayed in during a five week holiday. We had two clean and comfortable rooms, and our own bathroom. One room had beautiful views over the village, lake and mountains. Larry and Lisa were incredibly hospitable, offering great advice for what to do in the area.
Like many of the other reviewers, I can confirm that Larry is an excellent cook, and we really enjoyed dinners here.
I should also mention that we are particularly glad that we stayed here rather than in Halstatt. Obertraun is not quite "picture postcard" perfect like Halstatt but it is nevertheless a very pretty village in a stunning setting. Of course Halstatt is still worth seeing (and is only a very short drive away) but it is far too busy for a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: I am not sure if all rooms look out directly across to the mountains and lake - ask for this view.
