“Summer Walking Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

We had a very warm & friendly greeting at hotel reception. We were shown on to the terrace and offered drinks & and a meal from the afternoon buffet, enabling us to relax after our journey. Checking in was very efficient, we were taken to our room - allowing us to unpack, then given a full tour of the Hotels' facilties at our convience.
We booked one of the "Dream Appts", The room was beautifully furnished in a traditional Austrian style, with a king size bed, seating area, large modern bathroom & large balcony overlooking meadows looking down the Tux valley towards the Rastkogel ski area.
The hotels' Wellness facilites are the best we have encountered from our travels around the world!!!
Including: Indoor pool with water massge jets, outdoor whirlpool with a view across the valley, a Sauna, various other types of heated rooms, heath/healing facilities & much more.

All guests are allocated there own table for all meals in the dining room, for the duration of their stay.
There was a great choice of hot & cold food from the breakfast continental style buffet: from scrambled eggs bacon & sausages with eggs being cooked to order, to a large choice of cold meats, breads cheeses etc, there is also an extensive choice of muesli, fruit & fresh juices.
As mentioned before, a large afternoon buffet is provided from 12:00 - 17:00 with hot & cold fare including various teas, coffee & cakes - ideal after a days walking in the local area.
Dinner is waiter service with a salad bar prior to the main meal and a cheese board for those still wishing for more after the main fare.
This is a 6 course meal (with choices from the menu, made at breakfast) - although 6 courses sounds daunting, it is served in an unhurried way, and we were never left feeling overfull or still hungry - the food is diverse and of the highest quality, using local produce if possible - the chefs are to be commended on their professionalism.

There are many activites to be enjoyed in the Zillertal area, and Hotel Bergfried organises daily walks, cycle rides etc, all accompanied by the various members of the experinced Stock family. These excursions are explained together with the weather forecast and other points of interest, in the "Hotel Bergfrieds' daily newsletter" which is supplied at every breakfast.

A diversity of outdoor clothing is required, due to speed at which weather conditions can change - we had sun and 26 deg for 3 days, then fog and rain for a day, the next morning we awoke to 25cm of snow in the upper valley & 40cm on the glacier!!!

Overall we had an wonderful holiday in an excellent Hotel.
Hotel Bergfried is to be highly recommended, with all members of staff being extremely courteous freindly & helpful - nothing was ever to much trouble for them to make our stay more enjoyable.

Actually stayed there in winter 2010; Was definitely the highlight of our European ski holiday, possibly the cutest room we have ever stayed in; more food that anyone could possibly eat continuously available; excellent service and great facilities right next to the bottom of the local ski mountain, and short trip to Hintertux glacier; would definitely love to return one day

We rented an apartment (74 sqm) from Bergfried with a family of 2 parents, grandpa and 3 children (14, 12 and 10). The apartment consisted of two bedrooms (one with double bed, the other with double bed and a sofabed for two persons), bathroom (with bath and shower), kitchen/living room, a separate toilet and a balcony. The apartment was spacious and clean

There was a separate room for skis and skiboots at the basement, as well as a garage for our car.

First we were planning to cook ourselves but the breakfast at the hotel was so nice that we decided to eat it every morning. After the skiing day the spa (pool, inside jacuzzi and the outside jacuzzi) was excellent choice. The towels were available from the reception and there was a changing room next to the spa.

All the restaurants in the area were full around 7 pm - remember to make a table reservation. The service and food at Bergfried Alm was far better than in any other restaurant near the hotel. If you want to cook yourself, the apartment is fully equipped.

The hotel had a shuttle service to the lifts but also the local Sportbus service was excellent (and there was more space in these busses...). The bus stop was only 3 min from the apartment and the busses took us directly to the lifts. Eggalmbahn was 10 min away from the apartment but in the evening it was possible to take the ski route in to the Lanersbach center (less than 5 min from the apartment).

If you want to have quality holiday with a bigger family in a holiday apartment and enjoy the services of a hotel, I can recommend Bergfried for you.

The Hotel is nicely located towards the end of the Zillertal in Lanersbach, a small village in a steep setting on 1250m above sea level. We were welcomed very heartily and shown our room. We have had a standard room which was equipped way beyond the typical hotel standard: a nice big bed, a seating area by the window, a bath tub and a balcony overlooking the meadows (“Alm”) behind the hotel. All in a nice alpine style and spotlessly clean.

The Hotel is also equipped with one of the best spa areas I have ever been to: Indoor pool with counter-current, outdoor whirlpool with a view down the valley, a Sauna and 3 or 4 other types of “heated rooms” like a Tepidarium . There is a crushed Ice tub to rub after sweating, a Kneipp bath with hot and cold water, a foot spa and a large and quiet cool-down area which ehen offers some waterbeds with relax music and a reading area with a Samovar. Needless to say that water, team and apples are included as well. If you prefer to stay out in the sun, the hotel garden is equipped with a large number of deck and lounge chairs. Everything is all new and despite the hotel was somewhat well-booked, none of the amenities was crowded at all.

The hotel offers a full board which we enjoyed very much. The Breakfast is buffet-style with everything you expect from a continental breakfast plus great fresh orange juice and eggs cooked to your liking. Between 1 and 5pm the hotel offers a small buffet with Soub, bread and cake for those returning hungry from a hike or other activity. In the evening there is a 5 course menu. Actually, you can also count it as a 7 or more course menu. The salad buffet is rich and fresh, you can choose from several options for the soups, starters, main courses and dessert and there is even a small cheese plate on the buffet to finish the menu. We liked the food very much and although their cooking style is very broad (anything from “heavy Austrian” through light vegetarian to French Style), all we have had was very good and their are cooking is on a high level.

From the hotel you can do nice walks and the hotel offers several activities like guided hiking or biking tours. You can also use the hiking shuttle and several other amenities for free. The setting is spectacular and allows for very nice alpine walks.

Anyhow, the best part of the hotel is their employees. Everyone is very friendly, casual and I have hardly ever felt so welcomed and valued as a guest in any other hotel before. This is what makes the hotel a very special place in my opinion.

We’ve unfortunately only stayed there for the weekend and would have liked to extend our stay if our schedule had permitted it. We have liked it very much and we are already looking for an opportunity to return. We thank everyone in the hotel team for this great stay!

After being quite often at the hotel, we stayed at the new appartments in the guesthouse just 100 metres away from the main hotel. Appartments were very roomy, nice bathroom, centrally located. We also made use of the sauna and spa in the main hotel. Very nice atmosphere. Very clean and cosy. Loved the new heated whirlpool in the main hotel. The appartment house offers underground parking. Ski bus stop is just 200 metres away. Really a great deal for those that are looking for a more comfortable, newer appartment in the Tux area.

We stayed here for 4 nights recently, the hotel is perfectly situated in Lanserbach, and prefect if you are there for the ski-ing. The ski bus stop is less than a minute walk from the hotel, and serves all areas of the Hintertux skiing area.

Staff were just outstanding, the nicest austrians we have meet, they couldn't do enough for us and we even enjoyed a few drinks with a few of them. The food in the hotel is very very rich, 5 courses, which we were not used to and longed for something normal. The last night we gave the meal in the hotel a skip and went down to one of the cafe's and had a lovely meal.

The bedrooms are not big, be warned, we upgraded from the standard (we wanted to have the bath facility) and we were expecting a room that is advertised on their website and were shocked at how small it was.

The facilities are fantastic, indoor pool, outdoor Jazucci, spa & treatment area.

Overall could not fault this hotel, and would highly recommend.

A special word for the reception staff who were outstanding.
