We stayed for 2 weeks at Hotel Post, Pertisau in July 2012. We were thoroughly impressed with the hotel - the room was spacious and comfortable. Hint - ask at reception for a mini-bar... this is a fridge that they wheel into your room - free of charge - and perfect for keeping your room-beer cool.
We took advantage of the free bike hire from the hotel.
Also did sailing and Segway riding as well as walking in the mountains.
Dont forget to make up a packed lunch from the breakfast buffet - the hotel allow guests to do this - free of charge.

We decided to do without a car on this trip and travelled with the very well organised Crystal Summer / Thomson folk so our transfer from Salzburg airport was by coach and taxi. The journey from the airport is about 2½ to 3 hours so take a sandwich or two and something to drink.

Arrival:
We arrived after the reception and restaurant had closed but were greeted with a “ Ah! You have arrived” by the barman who handed us our room keys asked if we needed any help with our bags showed us to the lift and informed us that he would have some cold meats for us in the bar when we were ready. We returned to the bar to a large plate of cold meats, various cheeses and breads – very tasty especially with a glass of the not at all bad house white... off to a good start. We signed in at reception the next morning.

Breakfast:
On holiday I usually look for a hot breakfast (full Irish or English) preferably served at the table – “You are going to be out of luck here dear”, was my lady wife's comment. You can have the Austrian version of a fry but I had to admit the selection of fresh fruit, cereals, cold meat, cheese, and in particular the bread accompanied by the very good coffee made up for the missing fry.

Packed lunches are available but there are so many good eating places on the walks you need never go without food or or something to drink.

The Room:

Ours was in the mid range of the room types available to the rear of the hotel and looked out at the mountains. The double bed was in fact two single beds fitted together with separate covers. I assume hotels do this so they can convert the room into double or twin as needed. Otherwise the room was spacious enough for our needs with plenty of storage, a safe, comfortable chairs, a table, a large TV with no shortage of channels and a small balcony with a table and two chairs. The room, in keeping with the rest of the hotel, was very clean and well looked after. No tea and coffee making facilities were provided which was a bit of a minus.

The bathroom was split with the toilet being separate but without its own wash-hand basin. No bath but the corner opening shower worked very well. As with the room everything was very clean, the “room fairy” did an very good job. Provided also are two bathrobes and a wicker basket with two towels for using on your trips to the Wellness Suite and or the pools – if you intend using the facilities no outdoor shoes are allowed so spend two or so Euro at reception and get a pair of disposable slippers.

Dining:

We were on the half board option with the slightly restricted evening menu – which you choose from at breakfast time, seemed a little odd but works well – the food was well cooked and well presented. The menu was varied the service excellent and the people serving friendly and helpful. Finish all five courses and you will not go to bed thinking you could have eaten more.

Facilities:

We didn't explore these other than the heated outdoor pool and a few minutes in the jacuzzi. The pool was clean and without the usual overdose of chlorine and was never crowded. There are two showers and a small changing room and a tiny but efficient spin-dryer for your swimsuit – nice touch. We used the pool before breakfast and after coming back from walking (as we were covered in sum barrier and sweat from our day out we showered in our room first) put on swimsuits covered up with the dressing gowns and headed down to the pool.

Hotel staff:

It would be very hard to find fault with any of the staff we encountered. All were friendly, very helpful and most had a good grasp of English... more than we could say for our German.

The hotel can arrange bikes, sailing, diving, and once a week escorted family walks.

The setting is beautiful with the lake just across the road, from the front of the hotel a view that you would never tire of.

Would I go back? Yes, definitely.
Would I recommend it to friends and family? Once again yes without hesitation.

This is a quiet hotel in a quiet village so if you are looking for night-life this is not for you.

Another reminder to not forget to get your Achensee Card from reception which is a “bus pass” for local bus travel and you can use it at the tourist information office or at the Rofan or Karwendel cable-car office to buy an Achensee Holiday Card (€56 May to the end of October 2012). The card gives you unlimited access to the two cable cars the passenger boats on the lake the narrow gauge railway and more, details are on the leaflet with the card or go to http://achensee.info/en/tyrol/summer and click on Best of Achensee.

We arrived at post hotel on June 23rd. A friendly receptionist checked us in. We had a de lux room on the 5th floor, with a beautiful view over the mountains and church. Our room as was the rest of the hotel was spotlessly clean.Comfy beds and very quiet. The food in the hotel was varied and plentiful, well cooked and served by friendly efficient staff. We didn't use the spa or gym facilities but we did have a look at what seemed to be top quality equipment well used by other guest. The hotel has one of the best positions in pertisau, facing the lake,10mins walk from the lake ferry and cable car station. Shops and bank are nearby. On arrival we were given an Achensee Guest card by the hotel entitling us to free buses around the resort. If you take this card to the tourist information office or the cable car station you can then purchase an Achensee Erlebniscard for 56 euros each. This card give 7days unlimited travel on the lake cruisers cable cars cog steam railway museums and much more. It is well worth it. Without it one round trip around the lake is about 29 euros.

Room Tip: No need to pay for a lake view the mountain view is beautiful, and gets lots of sunshine.

This hotel is exceptional. The location is fantastic. The food and service were faultless. We were on a Thomson half board deal which means that there is a restricted evening meal menu but there is still a good choice and the food was always excellent.

There are a number of extras that may not be obvious when booking the hotel. The sauna and steam room are free, they provide free wireless internet connection and hiring bikes is also without charge.

Lake Achensee provides plenty of activities for a summer holiday - swimming, cycling, hiking, boat trips. I would recommend the 7 day Achensee Card (54 euros) which allows unlimited trips on the boats, cable cars, steam railway and local buses and entry to various museums.

Room Tip: The front facing rooms have a great view of the lake but are next to the road into Pertisau and can...

- meals: excellent. I suggest you taking the half-board. On the evening, you will get rich and tasty meal. Either as a multi-pass menu or a bufet one.
- room: spacious enough for us two. With small balcony and see-view. The only things i have to mention about the room was dropping bib in bathroom and a strong light lighting onto the hotel facade. But they shut it around midnight and since than, there was total dark in the room - i enjoyed it greatly as there are not many such situations in my life when the dark is the same if you open or close your eyes.
- Wellness - outdoor pool with beautiful mountain views. I stayed in the pool when it was raining - again a very different experience when you dive into the water so your eyes are just above the waterlevel and you see every raindrop falling into it... If you go from whir/pool to sauna, you can use the swim-suit-dryer. A practical small thing on the right side of the floor from the inside pool which dries your swimdress so it will not make your things wett when you leave them in sauna.
- hiking: we are hikers and as we stayed only for 4 days, we just hat to argue where we'll go each day - there are so many ways. Marked and for everybody - from small loops around the hotel to a long ones for very experienced hikers. Once we used the cableway onto a near hill where the paragliders were taking-off, the other day we hiked 900 ltitude meters and back.....

Nice stay i a friendly hotel. I would recomend to stay here again.

We are both vegetarians (one with a nut allergy) and stayed for a week. Every evening we were presented with a different delicious meal. We would definately recommend the food! Our room was spacious and the staff were friendly. We also went on a segway tour which we really enjoyed a lot. They have a inside and outside pool with a gorgeous view. We had a great time!
