We (family of 5 with 3 children) have just spent a sublime week at the Sporthotel in Kuehtai, Austria. The skiing conditions were perfect despite it being early April, and the setting is just heavenly with 360 degrees of majestic peaks. The Sporthotel is located very close to the start of several ski lifts. It is also right next to an excellent ski school (Top 2000) and across the road from the ski hire shop. Both the school and the hire shop offer a 10% discount to Sporthotel guests. We booked 'Vollpension' which included b'fast, lunch and dinner. My family and I have travelled a lot but the food at this hotel ranks amongst the best. Fresh ingredients, many sourced locally, and imaginative menus made for a sumptuous culinary experience. The evening meals were six or seven courses but with small, manageable portions. Besides, after a hard day of skiing, one brings a huge appetite to the table. The service was also wonderfully friendly and professional with mainly Hungarian waiters (with impressive names like Zoltan, Attila and Gabor) and one fabulous Italian lady, Elizabetta. Drinks were a little on the expensive side but that tends to be the case wherever you go. The hotel had a lovely friendly feel to it and one very quickly developed a sense of belonging. It was very family friendly. The rooms were very clean and, while not overly luxurious, were totally adequate with spectacular views, particularly looking out the front of the hotel. The 'Wellness Centre' downstairs was excellent and wonderfully clean. The pool was not huge but certainly big enough and had various jets and waterfalls that made it fun, while the sauna, steam bath and infra red cabin soothed sore muscles. Massage was an option but we didn't use it. We met many people who have been coming to this hotel for numbers of years and we certainly plan to return. My only criticisms are that the TV was small and old fashioned, the toilet didn't have an extractor fan and, as the mother of a little boy in a wheelchair, I would have appreciated a small ramp to ease entry and exit up and down the couple of stairs at the front of the hotel. Otherwise, we were utterly delighted with the hotel and the resort in general.
