“Lovely mountain location close to Kitzbuehel”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

This is a very good, well managed hotel with excellent rooms. the hotel is spread out in a number of connected buildings which some might find a little disappointing but the standard is very high. I stayed in August 2010 for three nights and thouroughly recommend it, even though it is a reasonable walk into the village itself. The outdoor pool is great but the indoor spa is breathtaking with lovely views through picture windows. The "a la carte" restaurant is outstanding. Service excellent. The new ski -lift, only a short walk away will also enhance the hotels postion for winter trips.

we booked this place as a last minute via an internet travel agency for a week in summer, at an incredible price of less then eur 100 a day for two adults and two boys in all inclusive light; beautifull hotel, amazing breakfast buffets and sometimes very posh and qualitative dining experiences; inside swimming pool is magnificent, but also the outdoor pools (a natural and a normal) are fine; you actually can borrow even very good solid bikes for free as well; also Kirchberg is well located for trips to Kitzbuhel, Zell am See, Rattenberg, Innsbruck ... all worth it to see; only negative point is the internet at eur 6 an hour !!

Comfortoble hotel with everything you can expect of a 4*hotel. Several staff members (bar, breakfast staff) were very unfriendly and were sometimes even yelling to customers. Sent them to a decent training!

Everyone from taxi drivers to tour guides was impressed when we said we were at the Elisabeth. It's reputation is the best hotel in Kirchberg, and I reckon it probably is. The staff seemed proud of the hotel - good attention to detail. The hotel's spa facilities are advertised around the resort. It has great pool and spa facilities. The food is good - 4 courses every night, and the rooms clean and spacious. You need to be aware that this hotel is out of town- but this is not an issue - ski lifts are a short bus ride away. I know from ski tracks that you can ski back to the hotel. When I tried to ski back I ended up on the main road about 5 mins walk away !

The Hotel
The hotel itself is really nice. It is kept clean and has good pool/sauna facilities. The ski locker area is also very useful. However I found the main downfall was the service of the staff. Our tour operator left us off at the hotel at 11 at night, at which time all the hotel doors were shut and there was no one at the reception. We had to search all over for someone to let us in. We were supposed to receive a meal on arrival but again had to go looking for this, and it was incorrectly charged on our bill at the end. It took forever to get dinner served each night and the range of food was disappointing. Their '5 course menu' consisted mostly of salads. And the fondue evening promised in the brochure was canceled. We gave up on the food and went the the Argentine restaurant halfway between the hotel and centre of town. If you want a good feed I thoroughly recommend it!
The centre of town is a good 10 minute walk downhill. Don't remember them telling us that in the brochure.
The Resort:
Great resort for skiing. We are intermediate skiers and found the range of slopes great with more red and black slopes to keep us occupied than we could cover during the week. There is a ski bus that stops right outside the hotel. A tip though - its the last main stop on the way out of town and often the bus had filled up so it was sometimes easier to get the bus closer to town especially in the morning.
Ski school:
Was not impressed with the ski school. Booked a days lesson and spent the first hour waiting for them to allocate us to a group. After a few slopes we were told we would need to change to a different class and would have to get the gondola back down to the town to meet a new instructor before returning back up the mountain, which would have taken about another hour. Found our instructor unhelpful and gave up and got a refund. Wasted a full morning.
Summary:
I would go back to this resort, but not the hotel or ski school.

Lovely hotel just outside Kirchberg on the road to the Aschau and Pengelstein lift where the ski bus stops outside the hotel. During busy times it is sometimes worth catching the bus down the valley thro Kirchberg to the Fleckalmbahn lift as the bus is usually empty going this way. The ski area is that of Kitzbuhel, but quieter to access the lift system. Progression for less able or biginner skiers is not so good on this system but the skiing for others is quite good and extensive with the new lifts connecting Jochberg area and the Ski Welt if you should need it.
We had very wintery weather during our stay with only an bit of sunshine which is much the same as most places this winter (late March 09). We had some great powder conditions during the week and it was magic!
As for the hotel, it is very clean with great staff and the facilities are just awesome, including wellness areas and swimming pool.
Breakfast were just great as was the the afternoon teas with home made cakes etc. The main problem as we saw it was the lack of wholesome food at evening time. They definately do not provide a skiers evening meal in that the food was very pretentious in nature. 5 courses but minute and if you dont enjoy filling up with salads (as I dont) then you will be disappointed. The food was of good quality but mean in quantity. Their vegitarian option was appalling. My wife(a veggie) did not want the beef of the gala main course so was given extra veg as was in the main instead of what should have been a prepared veggie meal - poor. I could go on about the veggie option, but .........
It was more like a health farm diet than a skiers menu. I think they were trying to impress Michelin rather than satisfying punters. Artistic impression for th food 10 out of 10 but that does not carry any weigh with me! - big plates and very little food, you couldnt eat the plates! It would have been interesting if they offered a two tier half board system, where you could choose 3 decent courses or 5/6 of their pretentious nonesense for those who wanted it.
Having said all that it is a shame from my point of view, because the hotel is a great place to stay in a quiet location.
Town of Kirchberg did not impress me much.
