Schloss Fuschl Resort & Spa, Fuschlsee-Salzburg
Certificate of Excellence

Not shure how Starwood got to buy this place but they really nailed one! Used spg points so that made the value extraordinary. This is a ultra high end resort so everything is quite expensive but in line with the other resorts in this class.

A spectacular setting on the opposite end of lake Fusilee and the town of Fuschl. This place although 500 or so years old, has been mostly all redone with a lot of very new rooms. 5 star luxury all around. Our room was regular with lake view. Not huge but decent size. Fantastic lake view and 5 star comforts all around. But the grounds are what set this place apart.

They have a fantastic spa. While my massage was not so great the setting made up for it. The outdoor sun deck is right on the lake where you can swim if you like. (yes it is cold). But laying out on the sun chairs in this setting being served food and drink to your liking is the ultimate in getaways. The restaurant is VERY expensive and very gourmand in it's food presentations, but also has a fantastic patio deck overlooking the lake. They rent boats, bikes, have a fishing hut you can eat fresh smoked lake fish, even take a spin in a classic car. This place has it all.

They even give you free beer and drinks in the mini bar. Never seen that in all my travel years!
But I do have one big gripe. Because we were on spg points for the room they do NOT include breakfast. And the only breakfast is 30 euros per person. Thats about 40 dollars american. That is very steep. My wife only has a roll and coffee for breakfast. They would not serve her that. She had to have the whole 40 dollar charge. And with the free drinks in the bedroom they did NOT have a coffemaker. You really would think they would offer that. Now I know most people are not on starwood points so they are getting the breakfast included in the room rate. But really. How about just a coffee option or a few alacarte items for breakfast. Ok. Beef over.

Staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Service was as expected for a 5 star luxury resort. Although the week we were there they seemed a bit understaffed (with only one person at the front desk doing checkin/out and concierge duties) and the place was not very crowded. So it was ok. They did have a huge "group" coming in on the day we left and there seemed to be a lot more "staff" that were brought in.

The area is only about 20 minutes from the center of salzburg so to me a much better place to stay than in salzburg. Gorgeous setting and easy to drive to the many other small and beautiful lake towns in this part of austria from. It really can be a great spot as your home base to do day tours to the many other areas in this part of austria.

Room Tip: If upgrading to a junior suite they have two classes. The lower class one has a limited view so tha...

Schloss Fuschl is located in the hills overlooking the lovely Lake Fuschl less than 1/2 hour from Salzburg. The Schloss ("castle") is in fact spread over a number of buildings, several which have an interesting history going back hundreds of years. We had a large, simple but tastefully decorated room with a large bathroom, walk-in closet, terrace overlooking the lake etc. All spotlessly clean and comfortable. We are not "spa" types, but I get the sense that the spa facilities are a big attraction as is the adjacent countryside which offers swimming, walks, etc. in better weather. The dining room overlooking the lake is decorated in rather corporate taste and totally lacking in character. Service however was excellent, and at our request our waitress managed to prevail upon the chef to prepare a freshly caught lake trout from the hotel's own fishery in an "off the menu bleu preparation" and it was well executed, properly served and delicious. All in all, a pleasant stay, but a bit lacking in "charm" and thus a bit sterile. No complaints, but on the other hand also no pressing desire to say that this hotel is a "must" when in the vicinity.

A Stunning Resort in the Luxury Collection of Starwood. We got upgraded into suites (a two bedroom for the kids and another one bedroom for us) Situated on a beautiful lake that appears to stay glass like because I never saw a ripple. Rooms are gorgeous and the staff bends over backwards to help you with what ever you need (Romy Schultz couldn't have been more helpful). This is a resort where only the elite from Austria have stayed for decades of vacationing including one of Austria's most famous family 's the Von Trapp family. While I love this place, I am not sure that I would recommend it for what WE were doing....visiting Salzburg. If I was looking for a Spa/Resort to relax this is the place. This resort is 15 km outside the city and there just has to be another hotel in town that would serve our needs, even though a Sheraton is right next door. My only negative comment is about the restaurant in the hotel, it was way too over the top for me.....while beautifully located overlooking the lake, the food was not to my liking. It's almost like they tried to be TOO gourmet with small portions and no one at our table (5) thought it was very good. Additionally while they say "smart casual" they prefer coat and tie. If I ever visited this resort again and I absolutely would, I would probably eat in town or just up the road from the hotel as several places looked great. Highly recommend as a relaxation visit to the spa or a five day visit to Salzburg and don't recommend the restaurant. I would rate the hotel 5+++ but the restaurant a 2 at best leaving the final rating at a 4!!

The hotel itself is in a cool location on lake Fuschl. There's some nice easy hiking right there from the property as well as a golf course. It's a decent drive 20-30 min from Salzburg so keep that in mind if you plan frequent trips. The rooms are nice and modern and the service is really top notch from the moment you arrive. The staff is very friendly and helpful to your every need.

The only issue we had was the slow service at the restaurant. The prices are typical hotel price high and they put a lot of emphasis on presentation. The food quality was good, but the portions were tiny which doesn't feel very Austrian. The restaurant space is okay, but nothing special. It has some cool views of the lake, but once it gets dark there's nothing to see. I'd definitely pass on it next time.

This is the best of the five star hotels I have stayed in between 2000 and 2013. The rooms are unique with original art works, spacious, high tech, fabulous views and on the spot customer service.

The bathroom was out of this world with its showers, lights, music and phone as well as easy surviellance of the bedroom area.

Most of all the food was without fault. The view from the eating balcony, the cultery, the plates, the linen, the service and self service, the breadth of food from around the world for example about 15 choices of breads, similar for cheeses, ... there appeared to be no service that could not be provided. They arranged skiing, shooting, spa treatments, drives and walks. Cultural explanations of the salt history of the site. The art work felt as though we had moved into the National Gallery.

All with a smile.

Love the place.

This is a fine example of an EXCELLENT hotel in an EXCELLENT location, and providing EXCELLENT customer service throughout. I loved everything about this hotel, attention to detail is staggering, everything done precisely to perfection. As a guest, you feel spoilt in every way. I have the most beautiful memories from this place and will definitely return. please keep up the great work!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Schloss Fuschl in October 2012. This trip was a combined anniversary/wedding visit - our 5th anniversary and a good friend's wedding. At the groom's recommendation we booked here and can't say enough about the attentive customer service. The staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way for our 3 year old daughter. Some luxury hotels can be less than welcoming to a toddler but the entire staff treated our daughter so well that she still talks about wanting to fly back to Salzburg. We also wanted to give special recognition to Liesl and Mentor in the restaurant for their outstanding service and kindness towards our daughter.

From a location perspective, the hotel is located near a beautiful lake and walking distance from the main village. There is also a bus stop at the main road which allows you to get to Salzburg and other sites very quickly and efficiently. If you bring small children, I wouldn't recommend walking the entire radius of the lake. The first half was wonderful but the last half was a bit more treacherous with a stroller and a sleeping toddler.
