Super hotel ...we went there skiing - highly recommended, with all inclusive - really good food - even for children. The staff is very friendly and especially the waiter Kostas makes the stay even better
nice pool, sauna and spa.

we went on a ski holiday to the Palace hotel in Mid March 2012. This hotel is a little out of the main centre of Bad Hofgastein, but only a 5 minute walk away. There is a beautiful park opposite the hotel to the front, and a backdrop of mountains. The main ski lifts are a 10 minute walk away from the hotel - there is a bus stop outside if you have your ski's / boots with you and dont want to walk, but the bus takes as long as the walk, and it is a pleaseant walk through the park, so if you are equipment free, its a great start to the day. There are lockers available at the ski hire shop next to the funicular station for 15 euros per week. from this funicaluar you can then take the cable car and ski the Bad Hofgastein region, and link to the Gastein region. There are 2 other ski regions, Dorfgastein which is a 15 minute bus ride away - good skiing and worth the trip (bus station next to funicular station) or Sportgastein which is a 40 minute bus ride (we did not go here as there is not a huge amount of piste for such a long journey). There is plenty of ski piste for a week for intermediate to advance level - although not a lot of challenging blacks if you are very good. I would not recommend this resort for beginners, as the beginner pistes are very limited, and some of the blues are steep, and most are narrow winding tracks down the side of the mountain - not much fun. for intermediates this region is great, and there are some real challenges, with great lift system and very little queuing (twice we queued for 5 mins in the whole week). The hotel has loads of facilities including ski lockers, tennis courts (but these are 10 euro per hour), swimming pool and jacuzzi, spa - which is great with loads of rooms/showers/relaxation areas (this is naked area - but as we did, you can wear a towel - just be prepared that no-one else does!) We had selected a standard/small room, and this was adequate for what we wanted, very comfortable and clean with everything we could need, our balcony overlooked the car park but we were never in the room in daylight anyway. The food in the hotel was great - much better than expected - as it was buffet style. there were choices of soup, starter selections, salad bar, choice of 3 main courses (2 meat and one fish) plus vegetables / potatoes etc, and a huge choice of desserts inc cheeses. breakfast had a large range of optios inc cooked such as sausages, but also cold meats, cereal, juices, fruits, breads, toast etc. A nice touch was that the beers / wine / soft drinks / water were free with your evening meal - help yourself style taps so no waiting for the waiter to reach you. there was entertainment every eveining in the bar, and a nice cosy lounge with fire. you can only get free wifi in the lounge, and in the reading area at the top of the stairs on the first floor. The maid service was great, and staff were friendly and helpful. The town itself is nice to walk aorund, with a number of shops - although due to the gorgeous food at the Palace we never ventured far from the hotel other than to the slopes. We did try the Alpenthereme spa in town which was 17 euro for 2 hours - it is nice, and very big, with pools, spas etc - but just a newer larger version of what was available in the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel, and would definately recommend it to others.

This hotel is,in my view up with the best ski resort hotels I have stayed in. I (solo traveller) arrived late 8.30pm on Saturday 28/1/12 following a slight delay at Salzburg airport to be greeted by a most welcoming receptionist and waiter(Kostas) who both insisted that I enjoy a full dinner, despite the dining room officially closing at 8.30pm, before going through reception formalities - my luggage was taken and stored and I ate and drank and was never rushed despite the late hour.My room 330 was a third floor corner room which was plenty large enough for me and a lot of ski gear, nice bathroom, flat screen tv etc.
This standard of service and attention carried on all week in every department of the hotel and I felt I was very well looked after and indeed pampered at all times. The wellness and spa facilities were top class and I enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and a complimentary massage to the full.
The food was all buffet style with comp beer, wine and soft drinks at dinner. At all times all the food was plentiful and hot(not lukewarm) with good choices of quality meats and fish each evening. My glass was replenished by Kostas who remained attentive to all his guests without being the least bit intrusive,a true professional in a dying profession.
I would reccommend this hotel to all and would imagine that Bad Hofgastein would be equally exquisite in Summer aswell as in winter.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms close to reception as they appeared to suffer a little more from normal hotel tra...

great hotel - 10 mins to lift if walking but the ski bus stops just outside the hotel if you don't want to walk.
"small" rooms are adequate and not as "small" as we expected. We didn't need to pay the extra to upgrade.
Fabulous pool, jacuzzi area downstairs - great for adults and children alike. There is a seperate sauna area (nude) where children aren't allowed. (you can wear a towel if you wish)
We were all-inclusive and the food was amazing every night. Could't fault - standard and choice was remarkable. Free beer & wine with dinner.
Vast ski area - get lift pass to cover neighbouring resorts (well worth it) lots of blue & red runs - not many black runs - lots of opportunities for off-piste skiing.
a must is a visit to the alpen therm in the centre of the town. great pool & sauna areas for tired limbs
would highly recommend this resort and this hotel. Staff especially Costas - fabulous.
will definately be back

This is a very good hotel. Very good food and free drinks with meals. Right next to the cross country ski loipe and across the park from the town centre and the Alpen Therme - thermal spa. Ski busstop outside or 10 minute walk to ski hire shops/bottom of lift. Free buses round town. Some really good skiing in the area. We had one of the bigger bedrooms and there was loads of room and storage space. Lovely pool, sauna and relaxation area. Ski store in hotel plus tennis courts. Open fire in bar area. Not much character to the place as a relatively new and functional hotel, but very clean and warm. Live music in the bar on most evenings. Very quiet - you cannot hear anything from neighbouring rooms - so a restful and relaxing break.

The Palace is a great hotel. It is very comfortable and a good base for a ski holiday. We had a spacious room, there were some smaller ones but during a low season week we got lucky. Bar and reception areas are now smoke free and food is excellent, all buffet style but lots of choice. The staff were, without exception, friendly and efficient. Spa facilities also very nice. there is a ski bus stop outside but we preferred the 10 min walk across the park. We stored our ski gear at the Hire shop right by the lift. It cost 15 euros per week (50 for a family of 4). the ski bus service is. Wry efficient and not much hassle. Buses always leave on time so don't be late! They seem to predict heavy numbers and put more buses on. Our favourite place to ski was Dorfgastein, a short ride away. Some people were complaining about ski school, watch out on a week with low numbers as the standards in the group are too disparate for an effective lesson. It is a good idea to wait until you are here then book one day to suss it out. The two hour private lessons were good. The small town is quaint.
