During our first two visits (in 2008 & 2009) to Bad Hofgastein, we have been fully aware of this well known Alpen Therme for its size, thermal pools (inside and outside), saunas (10) and steam baths, Family World with water slides etc., and excellent Cafe but we visited only to gather general information for the various therapies and treatments offered, also to have a cup of coffee.
There are two shops of sportswear and a pharmacy.
It serves the skiers in winter and visitors to Gastein Valley (Austrian from all over the country as well as the tourists from every part of the world, even 4 from Canada this time. In 2008, we were the only two visitors at Impuls Hotel Tirol.
I strongly recommend to Americans and my fellow Canadians to discover this heavenly place, the Gastein Valley

Well-located and nice spa, in comparison to other spas in the area, rather small Sauna area, no really value-for-money evening tickets, definitely brin your own towels (1pc rent EUR 3,80)

I had palns of skiing 6 days and one day of visiting the Alpen Therme while staying in Bad Hofgastein, but I found out that it was too little just for one day after I've visited it for the first time, so I spent a bit more, because the place is really worth to visit (more days you'll stay there - more nice for you). Lot's of swimming and chilling places, outside swimming pools with nice mountain views and other rudon water areas. You'll find a lot of loungers near the big swimming pool for reading, sleeping or just chilling, a nice cafe, where you can have a nice dinner or lunch, coffee, beer, etc. Don't miss a sauna world, an extra fee needed but it also worth , (over 10 saunas for everybody )and a relaxing room - staying naked in the sauna area one of advantages or disadvantages - you decide ;)). Also a special area for women - Lady's world and a big gym.
The entrance fee - near 14 euros for just swimming area and near 25 with the saunas. Take with you towels if you want, you can also take it for rent. 3-4 hours quite enough to stay without getting bored, so it's also a nice idea to go there after skiing.

If you have a day off skiing this is the place to spend it! A full range of leisure facilities for pretty well all tastes. A large indoor pool with bubble sections; a large lounging terrace with plenty of sun loungers for the hardy ones an outdoor pool, gym, wellness centre, womens pampering area and sauna area (not open to under 16's) This is a dedicated adult area where clothing is frowned on in the various rooms and pools. One can easily spend all day here, but I am sure you would come out resembling a pickled prune if you did! Having said that there places just to relax here as well away from the bustle of the main pool area. Just don't be shy, enjoy the freedom!

Alpen Therme is an enormous spa complex located at the alpine village of Bad Hofgastein in Austria. It is very modern and takes the Austrian spa tradition to another level. Bad Hofgastein is a skiing village/spa town with extensive slopes shared with Bad Gastein, another spa town. I read about it on a skiing catalogue and decided to visit the complex during my last skiing trip in Saalbach. It is aproximately an hour's drive from Saalbach to Bad Hofgastein but it was well worth it. The spa complex has a total area of 32.000 square meters and is made up of many different "worlds", restaurants, cafes, shops, bars etc. Each one caters for a different type of visitor. There is a "world" with water slides and other exiting features which caters for the youngsters, a lazy river area with a cinema for the relaxed types, outdoor pools etc. When entering the complex, they give you an electronic wrist bracelet which records any purchases you make and you pay at the exit. This is done so that you don't have to carry money with you. One of the worlds is "sauna world". This is an adult only area, since nudity is compulsory. You enter wearing only the wrist band and enjoy the numerous saunas, pools and steambaths with varrying temperatures and features. There are at least 10 different saunas and hamams (alpine, finnish, russian), two heated outdoor pools overflowing into one another, waterfalls, water jets, salt grottos, outdoor snow areas for relaxation, indoor relaxation areas, various therapeutic types of water to drink and many other features. On bad weather days, the place is packed with people of all ages since skiing is difficult due to the weather. If you are not shy, this is the place to relax. The complex is also connected with many of the local hotels through underground passages, so you can go there wearing your bathrobe. The entrance fee is 23 Euros for the whole day.
