“Paradise”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

From the moment we were delivered to the quay in our speedboat to the return journey we were treated to a magical experience of comfort, quiet and unobtrusive service to the usual Thai standards.

It took a day or two to get used to the utter privacy and relaxing atmosphere of the Paradee but when we did it was perfect. Huge private beach and even when the hotel was full we hardly saw a soul there, round the pool or in the sea. The food was excellent, especially the little complimentary treats of ice cream, fruit and afternoon tea and cakes that were brought round to the pool each day and the service first class.

We did decide to go to the main town one evening to try a change of restaurant and were shocked by the state of the road which could only be described as close to impassable - 6km in 30 minutes in a 4x4 - When we did get there the town was awful although the restaurant Red Ginger very good - but overall not worth abandoning heaven at the Paradee.

We were tempted to

Stayed here for 2 nite 3 days with spouse & friend and the resort transformed the entrance to a room for our friend. Single bed and curtains for privacy. Beautiful and quiet place with friendly people. At the beach, water and afternoon tea was offered without any charges. Clean and fine white sand with warm water. Villa was with a pool but who needs one while there is a beautiful beach right? Food was great and we basically stayed in the resort the whole time. The only downside was the travel distance from bkk but again, it's the best resort in this secluded little island

The hotel, it's location and notably the beach front and the sea are like on the website. It is simply beautiful and you can spend hours laying on the sand and in the sea of this marvelous private beach. The food is excellent and the service is at the level of a 5 star. The price are of course at the level you can expect fot this type of place. We also spent few days at the ao prao resort which is also great but less exclusive and cheaper. Both resorts cannot be compared but both are perfect places to relax a few days as there is not much to do around on the island.

We chose Ko Samet because we were visiting in late October and wanted to avoid the rains further south. Thanks to Trip Advisor we selected Paradee and what an outstanding choice!! It well earns its strapline of "Sixth Heaven". Even before the speedboat picks you up from the pier at Ban Phe, you start to experience the pampered treatment you are going to enjoy when you find a private "executive lounge", separate from the lounge of all the other Samet hotels and the hot bustle of the town. There you are greeted by the first of many beautiful smiling staff who invite you to select your preferred room fragrance, choice of soap and complimentary bottle of wine whilst you enjoy an expresso or cup of tea whilst waiting for the speedboat. Skimming across the water to Ko Samet on the speedboat takes about 15 minutes and you are greeted by a retinue of 7 staff to welcome you, take your bags, hand you a cold towel and give you bread to feed the fish around the pier before escorting you to your villa. We were invited to a complientary drink in the sunset bar, with compliemtary canapes, warm peanuts and a range of perfumed insect repellants,; just one example of their attention to detail and care for the guests. In that first hour of arrival, we have never felt so welcome and special at any other hotel.
We chose a beachside villa and though they are considerably more expensive, we loved waking up to the sound of the sea lapping the white sand only 15 meters from our private deck. (The beachside villas in the centre of the beach are, as some have said, less private, but the ones towards the end of the beach are in fact quite secluded yet still right by the water). One of the best features of the resort is the small number of villas and the seclusion of the beach. Each villa is spacious, thoughtfully furnished and has small touches such as flowers and a ladle in a bowl of water to wash sand from your feet as you leave the beach.
I believe that there are no actual private beaches in Thailand, but inaccesibility of the Paradee beach makes it effectively private. Usually less than 20 people were on the beach at any time we were there. The beach staff took exceptional care to ensure that the sand and the water looked their best; for example by collecting by hand any floating debris and lifting leaves as they fell. In the evening a really special feature is that the hotel sets up beautifully presented tables (with full linen and glassware) on the beach, complete with lighting, so it is possible to have that romantic dining experience EVERY night (weather permitting) at NO extra cost. The bright green lights from the array of squid fishing boats out to sea forming a natural amphitheatre as we ate is something we will remember for a long time. Full Thai and English menus available - we ate Thai every time and it was delicious. The staff were all unfailingly helpful, courteous and polite, nothing was too much trouble. Complimentary ice cream, high tea and iced water brought wherever we sat were some examples of being pampered. Of many years staying in beautiful hotels, this was truly a James-Bond-tropical-island-paradise-exclusive experience to beat them all.

Room Tip: If you are going to splash out for a beachside villa, go for one towards either end of the beach.

The island is very beautiful and peaceful. We stay at garden poll villa. The room is so convenience and the pool is private. My sons like to swim and play in the hot lazy day. While I enjoy to listen jazz song that provide in the room. We brought the package and we also get complimatary wine to enjoy our relax day.
The sand of Aou Keaw is so clean, white and soft. I love to stay here. All staffs are so polite with smile service. We will find a chance to visit the resort again.

Boyfriend and I had only a week in Thailand and were looking for some beautiful beach time without having to juggle an in-country flight. Koh Samet was close enough to get to in only a two hour drive, yet provided the much needed beach experience.

The beach itself that the resort is situated on, and the rooms and facilities, are beautiful and well-maintained. Unfortunately, while the resort makes regular clean-up sweeps of the beach, there is a lot of trash in the water and washing onto the beach, either from the proximity to cities or from the fishing vessels that surround the resort. I was disappointed by the beach pollution.

The service was truly five stars, from everyone we encountered--nice smiles, friendly service, they took care of absolutely everything. It was a very international grouping at the resort--we were the only Americans, but there were several European countries represented as well as lots of Japanese tourists. Resort prices are clearly for westerners--WAY above Thailand averages. You're paying full international resort prices, for example: 90 minute Thai massage at paradee was 2400 bhat, in Bangkok it was 450 bhat. Bring your own sunscreen--at the resort a three ounce tube was 950 bhat, which is over 30 dollars. They have you captive, and they know it!

We didn't even use the spa because it was so much more costly than it would have been, and we were really there for beach time, so we focused on that. It did appear beautiful, but wasn't what drew us there. The beach and pool were ample entertainment for two days, and kayaks and snorkel sets are available at no charge.

The food was pricey by Thai standards, but not as outrageous as the above, and the Thai food was quite good. I only had the western stuff at breakfast, and they definitely did better at asian foods, their Thai and Chinese were very tasty. The breakfast buffet was not as large or varied, or quite as good, as at the moderately priced hotel we stayed at in Bangkok.

We had a garden villa with pool, and this was a great choice--villas on the beach are right in front of the beach where everyone swims, and lack privacy. The garden room was very private. We never even used our private pool, just hung on the beach and at the main pool.

Warnings: there are many mosquitoes at night, dinner on the beach sounds attractive but gets expensive really fast, and the signature drink is absolutely bad--creme de menthe and citrus?

We could have spent less money for the same elements had we gone to areas like Phuket or Koh Samui, but we paid more for convenience. I would recommend Paradee if that's what you need, but if you have more time, there are better value options elsewhere in Thailand that will likely be more pristine. Still, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Room Tip: Don't overpay for the beachside villas--they're not as private. Garden was a better value a...

First need to say, we did not stay here, this is mostly directed to management.
We arrive to paradee via kayak and wanted to eat at their restaurant to celebrate my bday, and ask info about a possible future stay. We are a US family of 4, with 2 kids, and certainly well groomed not campers showing up with food bags! We vacation often in the islands and always looking for the best hotel.

The security spotted us while paddling toward the resort and started whissling and screaming to go away. I completely ignore them of course as my young kids needed a break and needed to cool down. We stopped at the beach (nobody was there but the security guard) and gave water to the kids and refreshed them for a swim. The security called other security and we were surrended by barking unfriendly security during the 10 minutes we spent there.

Beaches in thailand are pubblic, there are no private beaches in thailand, and although I understand that security needs to ensure that outsiders are not going to use hotel facilities, they have no right whatsoever to stop somone from swimming in the beach or paddling with the kayak in fron t of their property.

We were so upset by their aggressiveness that we left and eat in another hotel.

What a pitty, we were considering moving here for our week vacation
