We like to visit new places but this is one of the few places we have stayed at and could see ourselves coming back to. I recommend it to couples and families that are looking for a beautiful location away fr the crowds. The resort has good service, is clean and the food is good.

There's another resort (le vimarn, their pizzas are excellent) on the same beach under the same management so you can go to their restaurants and put the bill on your room.

Snorkeling off the beach is quite ok and excellent snorkeling/scuba is a short trip away. Right on the veach there's a recreational center that rents snorkeling gear, arranges scuba dives and rents kayaks and katamarans.

We arrived at Ao Prao with some concerns, having seen some of the negative recent reviews, but we needn't have worried. First off, we found the service all but excellent. Despite some minor erratic glitches and the odd long wait for a coffee or (in particular) cocktail, the team were generally radiant, friendly and attentive. A special mention goest to Chanita, Pia and Tree who were particularly welcoming, smiling and delightful throughout our stay.

The reception and cleaning staff were efficient and helpful also, and rooms were cleaned and made to an excellent standard each day. We had three huts in the second row back from the beach which were all simple but calm and very pleasant with some chinks of sea view too. Great touch with the wash basin outside to clean off sandy feet.

The beach was slimmer than we'd imagined, but never felt too crowded, and this was over the New Year period too. One criticism would be a lack of loungers - we ended up getting up a little earlier to ensure we got one. We had been especially concerned by reports of rubbish in the water but the sea was crystal clear and gorgeous during our visit - my guess is that this is a tidal or seasonal issue, which would certainly have been disappointing. The pool is small but refreshing, and the loungers poolside are much comfier than those on the beach.

Food was good, but not amazing, with a long menu with Western and Thai choices available. We particularly enjoyed the fruit smoothies and the bbq-grilled kebabs or fish in the evening. We were a bit frustrated that the resort didn't offer more dining variety in the other venues they own further down this side of the island. We found near *identical* menus for food and drink - even the typeface and formatting was the same - with the exception of O which offered incongruous Italian fare. This was a bit disappointing, and saw us travelling to other parts of the island just to mix things up food-wise. Red Ginger in the main Koh Samet town was excellent. Bar and Bed further up that side of the island offered fantastic food but terrible service. We waited almost two hours for our main course. We felt Samed resorts were definitely missing a trick by not branching out with different menus further down the shore.

The only final quibble was time-keeping with some of the watersports - diving in particular. We were let down / postponed on a couple of occasions which was frustrating, particularly when we'd scheduled our day around a pre-arranged appointment. We generally got the impression that things were a bit haphazard, and if a time was kept as arranged this was more out of luck than efficiency and planning. Nevertheless, the boat ride to other islands comes highly recommended, and the massages were divine.

Overall, a fantastic relaxing stay with delightful staff.

We came from Cambodia border and found it hard to find where the speed boat left for hotel so there was a bit of confusion walking around Rayong - also because people we asked tried to sell us tickets on any boat. Once we found Seree Ban Phe Pier it was all fine and transfer feels like you are going to a secret getaway. Room overlooking the water was lovely and it was one of the nicest places we have stayed. Its also the better part of the island - if you get a bike and go sightseeing you will understand (roads are not great so don't expect smooth riding - advise getting a quad).
Only criticism would be the service - I think there is some "island time" delays here. We just found we were waiting for orders for longer than usual. For the fire dance - don't bother booking a table near the front because nobody respects this and simply stands in front of you. Try and get a spot on the steps to have the best view. Our dinner didn't get served until after the dance at 9pm - which was frustrating because we ordered at 8 thinking we could eat while watching the show - not a good idea.

First the good:
Great location, only 2 hours or so drive plus 15 mins speedboat from BK Airport, nice sandy private beach, safe swimming in the gulf, small but adequate pool, plenty of loungers beach and pool. Food good, accommodation good and all areas very clean.
Now the not so good:
Where was the Thai welcome? Arrived from N Thailand mid evening after 7 hours travelling. Registration conducted with minimum of conversation, forget about cold towels and a drink! Service in restaurant erratic and staff apart from a couple seem bored. Can wait ages to oder another drink as staff are not pro active. Communication to guests is non existent. Nothing in the room to inform on all the water activities on offer and we would have missed the fire dancing and music trio had we not discovered them. The food is very overpriced and given you can't drink the water, you will pay almost Bhat 80 for a small water, though 2 a day are provided free, how generous!
The staff are a mix of Thai dress, polo shirts and anything else so not sure who is who. Many also seem to avoid eye contact.
There is something lacking here and our service experience is not consistent with other good reviews so puzzling. It did get better and we had a good send off. Maybe glad to get rid of us (joke) but we got a "goodbye" drink! Maybe needs better management.
Would not stay here again but try another hotel if on this island.

Room Tip: Beach view if you can and away from main hotel

I booked this hotel just because the Le Vimarn was too expensive for the weekend I was planning to be there, And I have to say it was the best choise ever! The hotel is very good! Clean, the rooms very spatious, quite. The restaurant not too expensive and the stuff very nice and careing. The beach clean (they have some stuff cleaning it all the time) and the swimming pool next to it, as it might get really hot in the afternon. a very quite place, after two days I had the feeling the rest of the world doesn't exist! The best place to relax!

Room Tip: The was in room 104, near the reception and it was very good.

We booked this as a last minute (literally!). We wanted somewhere that was relaxing, away from the crowds and resembled paradise. Well we sure got that!

The resort is nestled in a small bay with two of the other Samed resorts (Lima Coco and Le Vimarn ). Because of this you get a real feeling of exclusivity that you just wouldn't get elsewhere. We were told beforehand that Ao Prao is where most of the locals go for the weekend.

Upon arrival to the private pier they check your bags for you and you don't see them again until you are taken to your cottage. We are still trying to work out how they got there as there wasn't another boat leaving before ours....

We booked a beach front cottage and these are beautiful from the outside. The bedroom is also very nice, simple but smart. The bathrooms do look a bit dated it has to be said and I would have wanted something a bit more modern for the price tag...

The food is great however not cheap cheap but if you want quality then why would you mind paying for it?

Service was awesome. Second to none.

I had two Thai massages on the beach whilst there which were the best I HAVE EVER HAD. And all for only 400 THB per massage! Do give them a small tip though as they work hard.

Niggles:

1. WIFI - Only available in the reception but it is free. This wasn't a major issue for my friend and I as we wanted the relaxation but for the price it should be everywhere.
2. They charge to take the Kayaks and Snorkelling gear out. Should be free again considering the price.

All in all you will love this resort if you want some peace and relaxation in your own little bit of paradise!

Enjoy!
