“If you want 4 walls and running water at a semi secluded place and not much else you will just be satisfied here.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Visited here for a romantic getaway for two in February 2013. This place definitely looked better in the photos but I'll say this straight away, you get what you pay for. As the title states, if you want something very basic, have a fantasy about a secluded bungalow on the beach in a tropical paradise (with all the bad points that go along with that) then this is your place. For the money it was good, although I will say, the bungalows are really REALLY hit and miss. The first one we got was terrible, really small and the whole thing flooded everytime one of us had a shower. After a day we were able to move to a better and bigger bungalow which interestingly enough was the same price as the matchbox we slept in the night before.

Heres the golden tip with the bungalows: Bungalows B7, B8, B9 are good. A5 really small and floods, do not stay in this one!!!. More than likely, if you book off a discount website they will try and give you the less quality options, stay firm on check in, they know how bad they are too!

The location at Ao Pudsa is fantastic if you want a little seclusion, its only a 10 minute walk across a small headland to get to Ao Phai (second largest beach area on Samet). or for the more adventurous you could walk to Sai Kaew in about an hour. There are plenty of watering holes along the way to stop at though.

Facilities are very basic, a small restaurant and bar (with disinterested staff). We preferred to sample the different options on offer at Ao Phai which were plentiful and awesome! The rooms themselves have basic thai hotwater showers, a small bar fridge and no in room safe. There is a "safety deposit" box at reception which we opted to store our passports, phones and tablets in but when i went to retrieve the items the alleged safe was a zip up sports bag under the counter.

Beach is great, very clean with a swim out sundeck about 50 metres from shore.

Be aware that getting dropped at Ao Pudsa is a little more expensive than Sai Keaw by speedboat and they will normally only sell you a return speedboat ticket wich is the way to go. Other reviews state buying a one way ticket but you will get ripped off if you're stranded on the island with nothing but a thai hotel employee finding a speed boat for you.

The prices are:

- 800 baht return speed boat from Rayong.
- 300 baht taxi each way to sai keaow.
- scooter hire 100 baht per hour or 400 baht 24hrs.

I didnt witness any scooter or jet ski scams on the island, the scooter rentals at the bungalows seemed legit, my opinion is as long as you're staying there you'd be safe to rent a scooter without being ripped off.

Overall a good experience but I can see how alot of people would be greatly disappointed with this run down place. Like I said, If you want 4 walls and running water at a semi secluded place and not much else you will just be satisfied here.

I enjoyed my escape here on Koh samet.

Room Tip: Bungalows hit and miss, B7, B8, B9 good. A5 really small and floods. Great variance in quality betwe...

Currently revamping accommodation which starts at 8 a.m. and also building structure on beach. Quiet location therefore somewhat compromised but beach is fab, welcome is warm and staff efficient. If no availability on line - phone up, they found us another room!
Rooms are basic, beach front rooms although more expensive have lovely vista from their verandas & more up to date bathrooms. Away from the beach front is quieter at night. (Front isn't noisy just people walking past on way home) This is cheap so good for the price.

Room Tip: Worth the extra for a beach front bungalow & fan room is fine, no need for AC even in June.

If you're looking for 5 star- stay elsewhere. If you're staying only one night and want prompt service- maybe stay elsewhere... Check in was confusing to say the least- first time I asked I was quoted 1500 baht, next day I was quoted 1000 baht. I was told to come the following day for a beachfront. When I arrived they told me there was no beachfront. When I told them I was offered beachfront the day before, all of a sudden like magic the bungalow was free! Strangely enough- that experience in itself made the place more endearing to me. The bungalow itself is a stones throw from a very quiet beach. Location could not be better. The staff at the restaurant requires a wave to snap to action, but the food is fantastic- huge delicious portions. At first I thought staff was kind of indifferent, but I stayed 5 nights and after a couple days they recognized me and responded in a warmer fashion. There is a small bar (trio) next to the bungalows with awesome friendly staff and they make a mean bucket- kiwi island slush bucket was to die for. If you want to be waited on hand and foot, don't bother staying. No need for a do not disturb sign- no one is coming into your room. You want more t/p, you ask. I personally like the chill attitude, the quiet beach, and a picturesque beach bungalow. Just the kind you imagine and the price was very fair for high season. Fridge in the room is great and staff were very helpful- you just have to ask first. Private hot shower and toilet are always nice too! No frills, but just the thing I needed. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Yes it's right on the beach, but no daily cleaning and half hearted air con or noisy fan makes for an uncomfortable stay with unhelpful staff...... Lots of better accom at similar prices are available on Koh Samet

First trip to Thailand, my dad has visited koh samet whilst working in rayong. I love the location of the rooms, had and ocean view which was lovely. Service was awful, not much to be said for the food either. We prefered to eat out at the next beach. Rooms were over basic, very uncomfortable beds, and bathroom was basic also. Staff rude and unhelpful. Would I stay here again? No but I would vist the island again!

On the best beach on Ko samet and around headland towards Silversands. Some bungalows right on shore, but you are only paying for the location. The bunglows are very run down and poorly maintained. Staff are lazy too, and don't leave anything hanging outside your bungalow as likely to get stolen when you are not looking

We stayed in room 16, which is further back from the beach and up the hill a little bit. We wanted to be away from the noise of guests/people on the beach so it was good for us, though we didn't spend a lot of time in our room.

You hear/feel the bass of music being played over in the main beach but it was still easy to sleep especially with the fan in the room. The restaurant at Ao Pudsa had music playing but it wasn't too noisy and you hear no other restaurant noise from the other restaurant/resort on this beach.

We paid 700Baht for Fan Room with bathroom attached, and were told it was a special deal. So I imagine in high season the price would be a better more. For what you get it is a little steep given it was a basic room but in comparison with the rest of the island I think it was standard and maybe a little cheaper. But Air con rooms are double the price of Fans, if you can go without air con, you'd be better off and the fan helps drown out any unwanted noise.

It's an easy walk over to the main beach where you can join in the party but was nice to be able to come back to our room and not be in the middle of it.

We only stayed a few days here but the food at the restaurant was good, it seemed Thai and western style food was similar price so we often just had BBQ for dinner - my husband said the beef skewers were delicious. The portions were good to.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a fan to help drown out any noise. Have a look at a few rooms if possible as som...
