This Ao Thian beach of Samet used to be a laid back jewel many years ago. Since then, it has been raped by the local developers, who have even built extensively right on the shore, pouring concrete over the rocks. I would boycott it for this reason.
This resort is particularly overdeveloped, with two floors houses crowded tightly in a small plot; tasteless decoration in the room, plastic bed-sheets, an untidy yard - I call it unplanned greed. The service is ok, people are working hard as usual in Thailand, but this does not justify paying for the poor choices made by the owner. And it is not even cheap!
There is no restaurant but you can just walk next door to the Viking's place, where I tasted the most carelessly prepared noodles in a very long time. Yet, you can lay down on the concrete deck built on the rocks and meditate on what National Parks was doing when all this development was put in place, eating up the natural beauty of the island to give a fiction of tropical life to undiscerning tourists.More
