“apartment ok for the price, good tours”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

+ very big rooms, fan totally ok, no air conditioner needed
+ very good restaurant (the owners wife cooks herself)
+ very good services; we were picked up at the train station and after our stay dropped at the bus station
+ funny, enthusiastic guide who really wanted us to enjoy the trip (1 1/2 d trip)

- saggy matrasses
- for reaching the next supermarket you have to walk like 10 minutes on the highway

The half day tour is...ok. The best thing here is seeing the bats flying out of their cave in the evening. The full day tour we enjoyed more. We walked around in the national park for around 2 h seeing gibbons and macaques, the rest of the tour we were driving around by car trying to see some elephants. So if you really want to hike in the national park, you should maybe think about the overnight stay...although I don't have experiences with that.

Our (double) room was so large, I could have done a backflip if I wanted. We also expected lots of bugs (you are in the jungle after all) so we were really relieved (and surprised) that we didn't even spot one bug in the room! Also the ensuite bathroom was comfortable. Mike (the owner) is very helpful and advised me on my onward travel to Cambodia. We also booked a one-day hike tour, which was lovely. I definitely recommend staying here!

The room was very cheap and clean, no faults there. The food at the restaurant was fantastic. I think we had a somewhat negative experience because when we were there, it happened to be at the same time as a VERY large group of English teachers from the same company also visited. So the hotel was very packed, and the tour group was a lot bigger than I was anticipating. Also because of this, the service was lacking at the hotel. Mike, the owner, was very brash and rude the entire time - I was pretty shocked at his complete lack of basic customer service skills. Asking him any question resulted in a "Figure it out yourself!" type response. Also, during the jungle tour, our guide was great - very funny and animated. However, it's the rainy season, so of course it started to rain in the afternoon during our trek in the jungle. But our guide forgot to bring along the rain ponchos that were promised in the tour description. So we all got completely soaked and had to spend the rest of the day walking around in our drenched clothes. NOT ideal...

Anyway, to be honest I doubt I'd recommend this place based on my experience. But I also recognize that it might have been negative due to a few outlying factors that wouldn't normally happen. Mike does really need to fix his attitude though!

Firstly the room was okay. Very spacious but a bit bare. TV didn't have a good signal but you can borrow DVDs to watch. I would also suggest getting a room with 2 fans as it does get very hot. But seeing as the only reason you'll be here is to do the jungle tours the room is adequate! The food was also very nice and there is a giant tesco 10 minute walk away if you need supplies. I would recommend staying 2 nights to do the 1.5 day tour. Seeing the bats was an amazing site. Then the next day was the jungle trekking etc. Had a very informative guide (Ben) and spotted LOADS of animals, how he can spot everything is incredible. Definitely recommended.

This was an utter highlight of my trip. Bobby's Apartments were extremely clean and comfortable with a great outdoor seating area where the most incredible, fresh and tasty food is swiftly cooked up for you. We were picked up straight off the bus, which had been cheap from Bangkok and easy to find (although I would get the minibus instead as it is still very cheap but more comfortable in the heat). The tour we did of Khao Yai National Park was just spectacular. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. We saw metre long black squirrels, monkeys, deer, turtles, lizards, all sorts of birds, butterflies, a little green poisonous snake curled in a tree, and heard gibbons whooping. On top of that we saw a herd of twelve wild adult elephants and three babies. It was glorious seeing them in the wild. We also witnessed 3 million bats leave a cave at sunset, seeing falcons swoop in to catch them. Truly breathtaking. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and really made you feel at home.

Most of the people we met had not heard of Khao Yai, although all the Thai people we told were excited for us, and I could see why. I could not suggest coming here enough.

This is THE place to stay and tour Khao Yai with! First of all, the guesthouse is extremely cheap for what you get. It's very clean, the food is DELICIOUS, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I did a 1 1/2 day tour with Bobby's, and it was nothing sort of perfect. Our guide, Ben, was so nice and informative and really made the tour great. He pointed things out to us we would have never seen, he has a great eye and is a VERY lucky and blessed guide. Ben kept getting calls all day about wild elephant sightings, but we would always just miss them. Our tour was drawing to a close and Ben got one last call, we literally ran to a huge grassland and while the sun was setting we saw 22 wild elephants grazing along the edge of the jungle. It was an incredibly moving experience and it would have never happened without Ben, Suri, Mike, and the rest of Bobby's staff. Thank you, thank you for an amazing weekend in Khao Yai, we will never forget it.

Good place to stay if you want to visit Khao Yai National Park. The beginning of the trip was a bit rough since we arrived in Pak Chong via minivan from Bangkok. We were dropped off in the middle of nowhere and a taxi driver asked us if we needed a ride. We were hesitant, but the taxi driver called Bobby's Apartment and Mike, the person running the place, said to go with the driver. The location is not along a main road, so we won't have been able to find it on our own.

We reserved two triple rooms which were next to each other. The rooms were really low key with minimal decor. We had a private bathroom, TV, a fan, one queen size bed, and one twin size bed. We were also provided towels. However, we can't complain since the rooms were around $20 USD per night. Your room may have ants and geckos, but they don't cause any harm. Don't expect housekeeping to be done on your room during your stay.

Definitely go for the tours if you are staying here! We did the 1.5 day tour which was 1500 THB (around $50 USD) per person. The half day tour included swimming in a spring, exploring a bat cave, and seeing millions of bats leave the cave at sunset. The full day tour included lunch and a tour of the park. We saw an elephant, gibbon, many monkeys, deer, and barking deer. Our tour guide, Ben, was reserved, but he spotted various animals and pointed them out to us. It was so much fun!

I would suggest wearing a jacket since the 30 minute drive from Pak Chong to Khao Yai is extremely windy. You're sitting in the back of a truck.

Suri, the chef, made delicious Thai food which was really reasonable. We tried everything from pad thai, curry, soups, vegetable and shrimp dishes, and even had breakfast. Portions were generous so you could easily share. In addition, the food wasn't spicy. If you don't want to eat at the hotel, you can take a 10 minute walk to the Tesco Lotus Supermarket center where there are restaurants to eat at.

Mike was so generous to bring us to the train station to continue our journey to Ayutthaya.

I would recommend this place!
