“Taj At Madikeri”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

we had a oncology update for young oncologists from south India organised at The Taj,Madikeri.
This is a new venture of the Taj,a few months old! It is about 5-6 hours drive from Bangalore.
The drive for the later part was through some lush green estates, and the coffee was in full blossom,a rare sight for us city dwellers.
Tired with the long drive we were welcomed warmly by the staff at the lobby. The sight out at the lobby across into the hills is a great panoramic view - unbelievable and indescribable! I would rate it the best lobby view of any hotel, we just stood there sipping the local coffee and watching the sun and clouds play at the sunset - a great welcome by nature.
We checked into our cottages which are scattered all around the hill slopes and were driven around by eco friendly buggies. The view out of my cottage was again great - just lush greenery,I would againg say this was the best view I had among the many places I have been world over.
The evening meeting at the banquet hall was well organised so was the ambiance.
The dinner was at the poolside, again a real exotic ambiance and location,we were enrertained with local Kodava dance and music.Watching the starry sky with very little ambient light was also an experience.
The next morning included a nture hike to the nearby hillock ,led by a naturalist explaing to us the flora and fauna of the region.
We reluctantly left the place soon after lunch.
A great place to be for relaxing

Room Tip: ask for pool view or the forest view

The best part of this property is the phenomenal view you get from the main lobby,The Restuarant and its view is amazing. The other Restuarant nelakki serves authentic coorgi food and is also very nicely placed within the hotel in terms of location. The restaurant had a warm staff and served good food. There is a huge spa and 2 swimming pools. One of them is an infinity pool which is marvelous. Overall, we had a nice, rejuvenating visit here. Would definitely recommend it!

The panorama from reception must be amongst the best anywhere, and the building is designed to make the most of this wonderful setting.  This is a very new hotel, beautifully conceived, and it is a lovely place to spend a few days.  The rooms are scattered around the hillside, and buggies take you up and down.  Our room was lovely - comfortable and spacious, with great views and a nice little sitting room with a fireplace for chilly evenings.  It was wonderful to be able to sleep with windows open and no AC!  The birdsong is unforgettable and the naturalist can tell you what you have heard.  There are two wonderful pools and a good spa.  We went on a super walk through the forest with a guide who explained the flora and fauna - and we even enjoyed a soaking from a heavy shower!  For the more adventurous, there are longer expeditions on foot or bike.

There were a few teething problems as this is a very new property  - communication is not always good, the food was variable (some excellent) and it will be interesting to know how it works during the monsoon - but the staff are very helpful and charming and it is well worth the trek to get there.

Room Tip: The views are better the higher up the hill you are

The lobby has the best view of the place and the moment you reach, you are mesmerised by the place. The villas are amazing with a pool within and way the nature has blended into the resort is amazing. Nothing looks beautified and gorgeous but absolutely natural. That is the best part of the place. The Restuarant and its view is amazing. The other Restuarant nelakki serves authentic coorgi food and is also very nicely placed within the hotel in terms of location

The best part of this property is the phenomenal view you get from the main lobby. We went to Coorg via Bangalore and it was 6.5 hrs road journey. We were so tired by the time we got there, but the moment we saw the endless view of the green hills and valley, we instantly felt refreshed.

The property has been developed trying to keep the nature around it intact. If you are staying here, please do not plan too many sightseeing visits in and around Coorg. There is lots to explore within the property itself.

The cottages are nicely done and each cottage has a unique view. The cottages do not have airconditioning as the weather is always cool, however not sure if it would be very comfortable in summer. They have an efficient service of buggies which can take you around the property. Our cottage was about 1.5 km from the reception. During the daytime you can just walk around the place but after it gets dark it may not be advisable to walk as this is a rainforest.

The restaurant had a warm staff and served good food. There is a huge spa and 2 swimming pools. One of them is an infinity pool which is marvelous.

Overall, we had a nice, rejuvenating stay here. Would definitely recommend it!

I travelled to Coorg in February with my Wife, This place is Fantastic, it is a beautiful property and the service is fabulous, Initially i was not having a good time, and was really upset with the property but the taj service and hospitality changed it all around, When i arrived at the property i was informed that they do not have A/C in any of the Rooms, i was upset that at the time of booking no one informed of this and did not expect Taj to not have A/C in the rooms, although the nights are cool the afternoons are hot. On Making my complaint the management upgraded me to the only villa that had A/C, it was a presidential suite with 3 rooms a private pool and a jacuzzi, That was great service, Another problem while doing the zip Line Activity, my rope got stuck at high speed for which i suddenly stopped and jerked my back, informing them about this problem with the safety of the zip line, the GM of the property Personally Met me Helped me with medicines and the entire service staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. They also took this up very seriously with the adventure company that was handling it. Overall Great Property/A special Mention has to go to the food out here which was exceptional. A bad experience was turned around by the service of the taj Personnel.

Also one of the main reason i will go back to this property is the people that work here, a special mention to Hareesh at the Pool, Chef Salveraj at the grill, Phillip at the dew and Subayah at the Reception, and The GM Mr Agarwal who was very hands on throughout.
