The Danna is a stylish hotel - great combination of modern facilities with a dash of a colonial feel. The swimming pool area is amazing (huge pool in lush green settings) and the hotel is set on a beautiful bay backed by the green jagged mountains of Langkawi. The rooms are very large and comfortable with fantastic high ceilings. The service is very warm and friendly - not always first-class (eg dishes being cleared from the table before everyone has finished eating, reaching across people to put a plate down, amuse bouche arriving after the starter etc) but when everything is done with a smile then mistakes can be overlooked. The pool guys were very attentive without being overbearing. The one area that the hotel definitely lets itself down is the variety of vegetarian food. The choices are very simple and uninspiring eg veg fried rice, veg fried noodles, spaghetti with tomato sauce...its like stepping back in time 20 years! For a first class hotel it really does need to do better; the menu choices are what I would expect from a 3-star hotel (note the menu choices for a non-veg person were quite abundant and interesting). The waiter did say that I could ask the cook to make something that wasn't on the menu. However, I think this is very lazy as all I would be able to suggest is what I cook at home myself (relatively simple quick dishes after a day's work). Just like a non-veg person, I want to be inspired by a menu and try new foods. I appreciate that only a small percentage of hotel guests are vegetarian, however, it would be hard for me to stay longer than a couple of days at the hotel given the limited food choice available. Note that the merchant rooms overlook the car park, hills in the distance, and some sort of quarry. I would recommend choosing a higher class of room.

Room Tip: The merchant rooms overlook the car park, hills and some sort of quarry. I would recommend choosing a higher class of room.

The Danna Langkawi is a colonial-inspired hotel, we are glad to learn that you were satisfied with our rooms and facilities especially the swimming pool. We had three nights at The Danna, and wished it could have been more. Two familes, with three kids in tow, we were blown away by the location and quality of care and attention from the staff, who went out of their way to help. A special mention has to go to Paul at reception, AJ around the pool, and Ben at the Straits Cafe who made our stay very enjoyable. The rooms are large, with an expansive bathroom, and can easily host a family of three or four comfortably. The breakfast was one of the best I have had in any hotel in Asia, and the variety on offer for lunch or dinner, would suit any foody, and presented immaculately on the plate in large portions. The pool and beach are beautiful and immaculate, and excellent for all ages, and we couldn't keep the kids out of them, with lots of options for relaxing dotted around the edges. If we can, we'd love to go back, and would certainly suggest it to any of our friends as a couple or with a family. Thank you Danna for a great couple and your superb hospitality.

We stayed at The Danna as part of our wedding anniversary celebrations. This is a truly beautiful hotel, well maintained with a gorgeous pool and surrounding gardens. The rooms are immaculately decorated and very comfortable. The ambience of the place is just right based on a colonial style, but without the overbearing stuffiness that one gets with some places. A very relaxing place.

However, what really defines and distinguishes a hotel are its staff and how guests are treated and made to feel. The attention to detail and friendly always smiling service is just first class - and this comes from all levels, from the front desk, guest services, food & beverage to the pool staff, housekeeping and spa. Nothing is ever too much - in fact we don't believe we heard a single 'no' during our stay! Would we go back - yes without hesitation!

The hotel is close to some major landmarks, but the island is pretty small and traversable by car over a half-day. Nothing is more than 30-45 mins away by car.

Room Tip: Go for the Marina view or Sea View

We had an amazing and relaxing time at the Danna. The service was exceptional at every contact point - with every need anticipated and nothing ever a problem. The hotel while being quite new still has a nice old world charm. The pool was divine and the pool staff very attentive - including twice daily sunglass cleaning (never knew I needed that). Breakfast buffet was one of the best we've had with free flowing champagne - made for a long breakfast. Restaurant quality was good and there are a few eating options outside of the hotel. There is construction on a nearby site but we barely noticed it and certainly didn't disrupt our relaxation time. Absolutely no hesitation recommending this hotel to anyone - singles, couples, families.

Dear Jordan S,

Thank you very much for staying with us during your recent family holiday at Langkawi.

We are very pleased to learn that you and family had great time while staying with us and that you were especially satisfied with our services and The Danna Experience at the poolside.

Whilst we are glad that you and family also enjoyed the breakfast and dining in our restaurants, we are pleased to share with you that our new Executive Chef, Zainal Abidin has more than 20 years of experience, we are very confident that he will continue to impress our guests with pleasurable dining experience.

Meanwhile, we are glad that the road broadening project outside the hotel did not cause any inconvenience to you and family. As the project is granted and authorized by local authorities, it is out of our hand to stop the project, however, the current site is at about 600 meters away from the hotel, and the noise will be reduced as the project progresses.

We thank you once again Jordan S for writing us such an encouraging review on TripAdvisor and we thank you in advance for recommending us. We hope to welcome back you and family soon.

Best regards,
Pascal Masse
