We have just returned from a lovely stay at the Danna Hotel.

We were particularly pleased to find that the hotel manages to achieve the elusive combination of creating a relaxing environment for adults and at the same time, allows children to play and enjoy themselves. The grounds of the hotel and its proximity to the sea are magical. We loved strolling along the beach in the evenings and our daughter particularly loved walking in the internal courtyard garden with its water features and small winding paths.
We found the staff to be effortlessly friendly and accommodating. They appear to be well-motivated and professional possessing a good level of English. I would particularly like to thank Ashley and her colleagues in Straits and Co as well as the lovely Sheila and Rajesh in Planters.
Breakfast was an impressive array of European and Asian food. I indulged in a very eclectic mix of food each morning and even after six days, had not managed to get to the Chinese and Japanese area of the buffet - a good reason to return!
The food and drink service was excellent and the attention to detail, such as the sunglasses cleaning service at the pool was very novel!
The area around the hotel is currently quiet with a small parade of restaurants along the harbour. However, I am sure that if it continues to be sympathetically developed it will become a really vibrant holiday place. The jungle-clad mountains made a beautiful backdrop and the natural environment was very much integrated into the whole hotel setting.
During our stay, we were aware of building work going on nearby (a butterfly farm) but it didn't detract in any way from the holiday and the noise was more or less masked by the sound of the Jacuzzis and running water around the large infinity pool.
My husband and I both made use of the gym and I found it perfectly adequate for trying to maintain a good balance between the over-indulgence at mealtimes and trying to keep trim! It would be good if the air-conditioning could be more effective. After 10 mins on the treadmill in the sunny corner the heat was fairly unbearable! It would also be good to provide a fit ball.

We are now working out when we can find the time to make a return visit!

Room Tip: We loved our room on the top floor (5th) it had the most fabulous view over the sea for the sunset e...

Excellent service! very big and comfortable room with luxurious bedlinen, pillows, blankets. very helpful staff with excellent english knowledge. after staying there with my 11 year old son it was so hard do leave- we really felt like at home. wonderful breakfast with very good variety for every taste. i would recommend it for anyone who likes a peace but not too far from a city center. we rented a scooter so it was a best choise for us as we could go everywhere in the island by our own. i would deffinitely go back to Danna Langkawi!

We stayed here for our honeymoon. They greeted us with a welcome drink and a shoulder massage at the lobby which was cool. All I can say is the pools are AMAZING and huge. Even though the private beach is not fantastic, the pools make up for it. We stayed at the pool side most of the time and ordered their food. The rooms are comfy and the bathroom is clean, etc. The breakfast was unique where you can either have the buffet breakfast and/or order from their menu which had selected dishes. I must say the pool is the best I've been to where the sun-loungers are positioned IN the water. This is a chilled out relaxing hotel, and in a quiet area. It's a place to go if you want to just sit by the pool to chill.

This is without doubt one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. From arrival to departure the service and experience at the Danna exceeded expectations. We stayed at the hotel for 10 days in April and didn't want to leave.
A few people have commented on the beach and I honestly can not see what the issue is? It is a fine beach, on a quiet stretch and besides you would struggle to want to leave the pool area which is first class.
The Danna obviously prides itself on the service it provides and this comes across in everyone you meet. They can not do enough for you and are willing to go the extra mile. Extremely professional and this creates a very welcoming environment.

The rooms are stunning. Excellent features, high quality fittings and super comfortable beds. Bathrooms we're huge and well equipped.
Literally there is nothing to critique. The hotel offers free DVDs to watch in the room as well.

The pool area is another real hit. Loads of beds (which are very comfortable) as well as some double beds with pull over canopy and pillows. Pool is huge and very clean and well maintained. Free water and sunglasses cleaning all day along. The staff here work really hard and will get you anything you need. A great place to spend the day.

We only ate breakfast at the hotel (lunch a couple of times by the pool) as we prefer to go out and explore and try the local food but the breakfast selection was huge, fresh and top quality. Pretty much anything you would want and again nothing to fault with the same excellent service.

We hired a car for our stay which I would highly recommend (the hotel will sort this for you) as the Danna is close by (max 15 mins) to most major areas on the island and allowed us to experience some great food and days out.
Would highly recommend the restaurant Nam at the Bon Ton resort. Some of the best food on the island and we returned twice.
You also have the restaurants of the harbour behind the hotel (literally 30 seconds out of the door) which were fine but limited on local food which we prefer when travelling.

There is a well equipped gym which we used every day, library and snooker room so plenty to keep you entertained in the hotel.

Overall first class, can't imagine you will get better on Langkawi or anywhere else for that matter as the Danna sets the bar very high and well deserves it number 1 rating.

The Hotel itself was great, but sadly the beach wasn't the best. But the amazingness of the pool made me forget the beach completely. Breakfast was great and had a large choice, but the dinner was totally not worth the price. We had to go to the harbor where was the best restaurant in Langkawi.

This is a lovely hotel. We were met at the airport by a Concierge (Igor) who waited with us until the driver arrived with the car. During our drive he described the activities available in Langkawi, the hotel and the Perdana Quay eateries and made some suggestions for our stay. We were greeted at the hotel with a cool towel, juice and a quick 5 minute neck/shoulder massage, which was nice. Our room was beautiful - one wardrobe with 4 drawers each, other storage is also available. Lovely light and airy bathroom. Large bath, double sinks and a lovely rain shower with great water pressure. Nice balcony overlooking the harbour. The air con was fantastic, bed extremely comfortable. Fruit and delicious cookies. Do note you need to push the button at your front door to have your room serviced! Pool is gorgeous with plenty of sun loungers (even some below the pool and others available on the beach). Only complaint would be that it can be difficult to raise a waiter unless you are very near to the bar - perhaps a flag system would be a good idea. Happy hour from 5 - 7 pm at the pool and then in the bar from 7 - 9 pm. Staff are all very helpful. Our only slight disappointment would be the food in the main restaurant - breakfast had a good selection to reflect the international clientele but quality needs to be improved. Nice touch is the champagne available. We ate dinner there the first and last nights. The first night the bottle of wine we ordered was warm and it took almost the entire meal to get it to the right temp. Mushroom soup was wonderful but the horrible pastry top needs to be rethought. Steak was nice. We asked for ground pepper but were told they only had white - however we dined outside for breakfast the following morning and there were salt and pepper grinders on the tables! It is these types of small things that need to be addressed by the training department. The location itself is lovely, and there are other restaurants in the harbour area, a small shop and a laundry (excellent and very cheap). We took taxis around the island - clean and reliable - just ask the cost before you enter. We had some great chats with the drivers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to revisit one day.

Room Tip: Loved the Grand Master with a view of the harbour area

We liked the look of this hotel straight away and were so glad we booked. The staff were brilliant and worked seamlessly together to provide everything we needed from cool face towels and complimentary fruit salad around the pool, to a room with fresh towels to freshen up in and complimentary chocolates before leaving on our last day.

The hotel is as beautiful as the photos on the website and the pool is great. Rooms were large and in good condition. We had the cheapest room (overlooking the carpark/harbour) but it honestly didn't matter.

There was a great selection at breakfast and throughout our stay we were regularly supplied with refreshing ginger tea served on a tray with a fresh orchid.

The only downside was that the public beach outside the hotel was not particularly clean. Ok to walk on but not pristine, which was a shame. But don't let that put you off - the hotel is amazing and the staff are a credit to it. Only one more thing to note - in all of the establishments in langkawi, a service charge was added to the bill. Here in the UK this would be divided amongst the staff as tips but this is not the case in Langkawi. So please tip the staff a little extra in cash (given directly to them) if you can - they do a great job and will definitely have earned it!
