I loved it here! The surroundings are beautiful, lots of different pools with different temps and the water slides are fun too. Perfect day trip from Christchurch.

Our family of six (two adults and four children) visited the hot pools on a rainy afternoon to fill in some time. Reading the sign outside the door I gulped at the prices. $20 - adult and $10 - child. The kids had their heart set on going so we opted for a group concession ticket for $73.00 which got us all into the pools twice on the same day. The pools ranged in heat so there was something for everyone's level of tolerance. There are three fantastic aquatherapy pools which pummel your muscles with jets of water, three hexagonal thermal pools, three sulphur pools and numerous 'rock' pools. There is a great kids area with a small aqua playground, lazy river, swimming pools and slides. There are also two hydroslides and superbowl ride but unfortunately these cost $10 more each person if you want to use them. A bit rank I think considering the entry prices. Lockers to keep your belongings safe are $2 for 2 hours which is reasonable, however we needed two to fit all our belongings in. Beware also going over your time limit as you are unable to access your locker without paying another $2. A bit difficult if your money is in your wallet in the locker!!! The changing rooms are adequate and relatively warm. There are no hairdryers though. The staff, though plentiful, were not particularly friendly and seemed to be just filling in time there. We went back again in the evening of the same day and the ambiance was completely different, with the steam rising off the water, more intimate and nicer for the adults. We all slept extremely well that night and woke later than normal the next morning so it was definitely relaxing, if expensive.

This is our second visit and whilst we expected it to be crowded it was way over the top - not enough places to put bags etc out of the rain/snow(yes it snowed whist we were in the pools which was a lovely bonus). It is dated and dirty and needs an overhaul. Cafe food was awful and did not live up to the hype the posters promised - worst coffee ever and dreadful service. Changing rooms need some more heating and non slip mats - very wet very cold floors. Spa was not great this time- I had very cold air blowing on me during a massage which when I commented on was told that they had asked maintenance to look at it...really!! People its winter in an Alpine Village it shouldn't be hard to get this right.

These are a must do while in Hanmer Springs, although we are not typical pool people it was worth it. Basicallythe are a range of
Pools of varying temperatures which you can go in. It is open til about 9pm which makes it convenient for a late in the day activity. My big tip would be to take thongs or some easy slip on shoes as it is freezing on your feet as you move from pool to pool and to the change rooms.

We arrived at 10am, were some of the first to arrive. It was snowing which was magic. Family changing rooms/cubical a nice surprise if not a bit rundown. But it meant I could change in private while helping/supervising young ones. Family pass was good value at $50, we stayed 2.5hours, could've stayed all day if outdoor temperature was higher than freezing. Slide passes worth the extra $10. Only thing to be improved would be having a lifeguard stationed at all slides entrances to avoid pile ups etc. Great kid’s pool. Very busy when we left at 12.30pm. Pleased to have avoided the peak of the crowds.
