Piccolino's Cafe Italino

Had pizza here a year ago and again this weekend, 1 Mar 2014. They were in the premises now occupied by Flynn's "Oirish" Bar and back then their pizza was great. Now it's dreadful - just some foreign teenagers throwing a handful of ingredients and a bucket of salt onto a tough old base while texting their mates. They are still charging the same though, as they continue to do business based on the good reputation of the previous owner/chef.

Ate at Piccolino's twice whilst in Hanmer. Both times couldn't fault the pizza, although just had the basic range of pizza. This restaurant is actually Springs Deli Café during the day but after 5pm becomes Piccolino's Café. Unfortunately the same staff that served us during lunch at Springs Deli were also the same staff that served us for pizza. They looked jaded, disinterested and made no attempt to upsell food or offer any drinks. This wouldn't stop me going back as the food was good for a quick bite.

Got sick of waiting for surly staff to pay any attention to us then walked off to a place which actually welcomed customers.

To be blandly told it's going to be 45 minutes to get a takeout pizza and then to be insolently asked if I wanted my money back because I thought that was a long time...is one thing. To receive an indefinable mess of ingredients on a soggy dough base is another. But to have an outrageous price-tag attached would have be the final straw for this very poor experience.

Incidentally, these people are also responsible for the bad excuse for an Irish Pub next door where we waited interminably for our pizza....and which didn't even carry Guinness!

This seemed pretty busy, but we weren't that impressed with our take away pizza.

Our order took 30 mins +, so I suggest trying to call your order in (though I'm not sure if you can). Pizzas are quite expensive and just average. They have a selection of desert pizzas - we had the chocolate one, which I think would have been nicer if we had eaten there, but had gone hard and didn't reheat well by the time we got them back to the place we stayed.

I think our main pizza was sitting around waiting for the desert pizza as it was also cold by the time we ate it and the staff did say it was the desert pizza that was taking all the time.
