“Good place to stay - except internet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2014

We enjoyed out stay there. We were a family group with five adults and a small child. The place is spacious and clean. Easy access to Hamner where we enjoyed the clothes shopping, food - including takeaways, and the hot pools.

The only issue was the internet. I am very widely travelled and nowadays free internet access is available in the many places I stay in Europe and Asia. We had a young mum who played 'The Wiggles' song to her 18 month son and our allowance was gone! We also could not buy more as over the days we were there we could not access the site. It was not working. This was a bit of a pain.

Village Lake apartments is the most wonderful place to stay for a luxury weekend away from home. The beds are so comfy and warm, the bathrooms are just amazing, the whole apartment is so comfy and so user friendly. We tend to eat in and make the most of our weekend there, It is a great way to spend quality time with friends. We will be back again next year if not before!!

Room Tip: We have stayed in few different ones now, they are all good!!

We have stayed at Village Lake "many" times and occupied the 3 bedroom house at No 4 Rutherford St (across the road) during Queens Birthday weekend. Although more expensive than the apartments the house was brand new with the same quality fittings, including the wonderful bedding, and contemporary decor. The log fire was a joy. As always our grateful thanks to Managers Bryan & Cathy for their most helpful, friendly yet unintrusive service. Village Lakes is always our first choice in Hanmer and we will keep going back.

I had the pleasure of staying at these apartments in November 2013 and again in May 2014 and felt a review was justified.
We stayed in apartment 10 on both occasions which had a nice view of the Village Lake from the balcony. They cannot guarantee any particular apartment like most establishments, but if you wanted the best positioned apartment in the place, it is unit 9 - a three bedroomed unit on the first floor and on a corner with beautiful views of the small lake and mountains to the north of town.

When we first walked into the apartment, we said "wow". It was large and classy. A top quality kitchen with cutlery, crockery and appliances to match. There was a six seat dining table, a large lounge suite, built in electric fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD player and stereo. The living area was spacious. The two bedrooms were a good size with very comfortable beds and there was a large bathroom with another separate toilet and hand basin.

The apartments are located about 500 metres from the centre of town so only a 5-6 minute walk. The area is very quiet and sleep quality is great.
My only criticism is that the extraction fans in the bathrooms are very noisy and stay on for a long time (10-15 mins) after the lights are turned off - they operate automatically with the light switches and you have no control.

All in all, a great place to stay with friendly hosts and I would not hesitate to return.
If the hosts are reading this, cut down that pretty conifer at the end of the hedge, it will block the nice view from unit 10 one day!

The service was lovely and they were so accommodating for our family (and crawling baby when it came to the fire etc.)
The bedding was so comfortable, the furnishings were new, modern but homey.
Everything we needed was in the kitchen and there was a laundry etc. and there were so many little things that were above and beyond (for example the wonderful shampoo, moisturiser, soaps etc. products were so lovely and I loved that they gave you normal milk instead of that horrible long life stuff).
It’s the little things that count and they all added up at this place.
Fantastic value for money, friendly reception and great for families. Close to facilities. We just parked and walked everywhere.

There is a BIG problem with these apartments - you don't want to leave! We have stayed here 3 times and each time we are really comfortable. It's lovely and warm, situated well for the sun on a sunny day and a lovely gas fire when it's colder. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud. Love how management remembers that we have stayed before.

My second stay here and 'twas even better than the first time. 3bedroom apartment, absolutely gorgeous . . . gorgeous views from two walls of windows in lounge, gorgeous fittings and layout of apartment, soothing colour scheme, attractive floral arrangements and paintings, amazingly comfortable beds, warm, spacious, spotlessly clean, full kitchen, roomy showers, two toilets, 4 minute walk from town, and from that delightful bakery. . . . I could rave on and on .Lovely touch leaving 4 complimentary chocolates for us. Wanted to stay here for ages! Booked for a longer stay next time, in a couple of months.
Minuses would be - not being guaranteed a specific apartment as requested for next booking; having to park on street after evening at hot pools (have to get in early for a park); and coffee pot not large enough for 4 people's worth of morning coffee.
As for Hanmer, I think it's a lovely retreat for holiday-people. Shopkeepers and businesses treat visitors with courtesy and good cheer so one feels like shopping or visiting there again. Each time I go I find something different and new to do. I also like all the different ages out and about, walking around the town. It feels safe. And I have come to adore the hot pools - especially the HOT sulphur pool, and doing lengths in the cold pool. Wonderful. Money well spent . . .
Yay for Hanmer! :)
