Like a fellow recent reviewer, the recent choice to stay here, based upon tripadvisor reviews was disappointing.
I have come to the conclusion that the average reviewer in NZ will be harsh on impersonal hotels and generous with individual owner/hosts so take that into account.
For this property, am amazed so few have mentioned the pervasive road noise. The property is situated above an amazingly noisy road corner. No fault of the hosts but the garden and swimming pool area although visually pleasant could never be described as peaceful and relaxing. The windows of the cottages are not double glazed, our first night on turning the TV off, my wife thought a plane was taking off, no, just a large truck passing! I am a light sleeper and ear plugs were essential.
Our cottage, was very nicely furnished, but what appeared to be a thick luxurious mattress on the double bed, was a spring mattress placed on top of a foam mattress. Really uncomfortable.
Cambridge is ideally situated for many local attractions, we particularly enjoyed Hobbiton and Hamilton gardens and the accommodation choice is limited so may even return but the frequently gushing praise, in my opinion, overrates this choice.More
