I was looking for some place near Hobbiton to stay a night and came across Cambridge Coach House. It is absolutely charming and is exactly what we saw on the pictures. The furnishing, the decoration, the garden and most of all the wonderful host Vickie made us so at home, we felt like we were her special guests in a luxurious house. After a surprised sumptuous breakfast, we really just wanted to just lay back and relax more, but unfortunately we had to say good-bye. We so regretted not being able to stay longer.Considering it being so close to the Hobbiton, it is really the perfect place to experience local life style. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much Amie, such a pleasure to spend a little time chatting with you two. I do hope the fishing was satisfying at your next stop and we so look forward to seeing you again soon.

Karl and Vicky were helpful and friendly The cooked breakfast by the pool very tasty, well cooked and nicely presented The setting of the cottages surrounded by the pretty gardens is very picturesque. Our room while a little on the dark side was comfortable and well stocked for our needs. Being just on the edge of Cambridge township means it is easy to access cafe's restaurants and shops but makes it a bit more peaceful than being in the town centre.

Room Tip: All rooms face out to the beautiful garden

We used Trip Advisor to choose top rated places to stay on our trip to NZ and until Cambridge Coach House we found the accommodation and service on each occasion to be excellent. Comparing just the B&B type accommodation (a sample of four places), our hosts at Cambridge Coach House were far less welcoming and far far less accommodating.

It is clear enough from the website photographs the term “luxury cottages” is used in an extremely generous way. You can also appreciate from those photos that the term “suite” refers to a bedroom with ensuite shower room. Unfortunately between the time I booked and the time we arrived, I had forgotten the room did not actually have a comfortable seating area that I had come to expect in a “suite”. There is a choice of sitting on the bed or on dining chairs but this just added to our disappointment. The two rooms detached from the main house have a light timber construction with giant windows one end that afford zero privacy when your fellow guests walk by. The premier room is attached to the side of the main house and looks as though it was it could have been converted from a timber garage. On the positive side the rooms have tasteful decoration and the garden view is pretty.

We have not scored this place highly for value. If we were to order the breakfasts we enjoyed at the three previous B&Bs we would have needed to choose all three options offered by Cambridge Coach House. As each option is $20 it makes Cambridge Coach House seem expensive in comparison. Breakfast is 7.30 to 8.30 am here and even if you try to arrange it otherwise, even with good notice, you may well find that you get a flat unapologetic refusal as we did. You do get let into the main house at breakfast though, which allows you to see where the best photos on the website were taken...

Heavens above!!! We certainly must have got you on a bad day! We are of course completely mortified that you didn't enjoy yourselves here and felt it necessary to write a volume of negatives about us. I do apologise for not being able to cook you breakfast at 9.30am, although our breakfast hours are very clearly stated on our website. We don't include breakfast (also on our website) so our guests can make their own decision and not have to eat breakfast.
We have never before had a complaint that there is no lounge suite in two of the Cottages, I'm afraid there's simply not room!!??
Now, just to set the record straight - the cottage you refer to as attached to the house, is not and most of our guests love the huge windows and French doors in Bali & Acacia and I think you'll find other guests will have to walk past your room wherever you are staying.
Thank you anyway James for taking the time to let us have your opinion, we have taken all your remarks very seriously.

We stayed here for two nights for a Wedding and hadn't really been to Cambridge before or stayed in an accommodation of this style.
We really enjoyed our stay! Vicki & Carl are the most nicest of people, lovely, warm & very helpful with where to eat & unique stores to shop...
The room was lovely & defiantly great value for money! Rooms where clean with nice facilities.
It really felt like a home away from home.
Location was fantastic- only a few minutes drive from the center of town.
We would recommend this place to anyone as it is just perfect.
The Breakfast was optional & we made a great choice by deciding to have it- great cook!!!
Would stay here again in a heart beat.

Vicki and Karl, you have create a dream place and we are glad we could share it for the long weekend. The cottage is furnished beautifully (as is your house) and with lots of attention to detail. Clean, comfy and lovely hosts - we felt like home. Breakfast was delicious and tailored to everybody's preferences. It was too cold to have breakfast on the pool but we enjoyed your lovely gardens anyhow.

For us it was the perfect base for the Waitomo Caves and Hamilton Gardens. For the not so good days there are plenty of magazines and books available. Free WiFi worked perfectly well. It is from here a short drive into Cambridge with all the restaurant options.
