Having been on the Queensland coast for a while, people said we shouldn't go inland in July , but we did and we loved it. Our camper trailer site at Bald Rock Camping Ground was spacious and easy to get into, with campfire/barbecue adjacent. We missed a really cold spell and had clear fine weather. Excellent showers and toilets, really splendid easy walks (we did Bald Rock Loop, The Junction (amazing) as well as the shorter ones. Amazing granite formations, lots of wildflowers. No mobile or wifi, but what the hey. Public phone at the Info Centre. Lots of birds and roos, peace and beauty. Marvellous.

My son and I decided to go camping at Girraween National Park recently for three nights in the middle of winter. We pitched our tent at the Bald Rock Creek camping ground. This is a fantastic camp site. Each camp site had its own uniqueness with some being very private.

I loved the surroundings and the hot shower facilities were fantastic. Even though it was really cold during the night, the days were sunny and pleasant. I plan to return as it is such a leisurely way to relax and spend a few days. Lots of very warm clothing is a must for winter, and make sure you have a sleeping bag that can handle below 0 degree temps. Probably best to sleep off the ground by using a stretcher as the ground is very cold at night. Most of the camp sites have a fire place so bring your own wood. We bought a bag of tinder wood and a couple of boxes of redhead fire logs from Bunnings prior to leaving home. This worked like a treat.

You should enjoy your camping experience there.

This was OK for a look from what we saw around the granite arch and so forth, and is easy going to get a taste if you have young or old with you...frankly though, you are better off having a drive around and stopping atop some of the large hills for fantastic views, I found this part of our trip a little tame when we were in the big country of Australia

Girraween is a lovely area to visit. The Granite Arch walk is easy with spectacular rock formations, excellent photo opportunity along the walk. Being brave, our group then decided to give the Pyramid walk a go. It is difficult and very very steep towards the top. Only two out of four in our group made it to the rock. I did my knee in about 90% towards the top, making for a difficult decent. lucky we had a Fire / Rescue officer in our group. Still it was a good day, spectacular scenic views, but be warned that you need to be in good physical health for the steep climbs. Most people would be able to do the Granite Arch walk for a good taste of Girraween. There are lovely grassed areas for a BBQ near the car park and the Kangaroos are tame for photos.

Girraween has some great rock formations and lookouts. Some of the walks are quite challenging but it's well worth at least to do one or two of the walks (Pyramid or The Sphinx are my favourites). But be warned if you're climbing the Pyramid or even Casle Rock it's VERY steep and you need good shoes/be in good physical health.
