Description: We believe in keeping our food mileage low, utilising the abundant produce in the area and working with both local farmers and the seasons to showcase what the Granite Belt has to offer. We support free range and sustainable farming practices, as well as organic where possible, and have given ourselves a strict three hour radius in which to source our produce - if we cannot get something within this radius, we simply do not use it. We allowed three hours so we were able to reach Ballina for seafood, however most things are coming from much closer to home. Currently our pork, tomatoes and garlic come from within minutes of the restaurant. Because we use such local produce, for the most part we are unable to order in cuts of meat, so meat comes to us as whole beasts, if not delivered by the farmer who raised and slaughtered it, then by the butcher who did. For this reason, you will notice our mains will often feature a cut of meat as well as a braise so we can utilise and pay homage to the whole animal. Everything possible is produced in house including the bread, cultured cream and butter and we like to feature wild foraged ingredients on our menu. We welcome you warmly to The Barrelroom and hope you can appreciate the effort we put into designing a menu that is not only delicious, but mindful, clever and above all, respectful of the produce we utilise.

Of course everyone goes to the bad reviews first, well nearly always and I was tempted to put this under 'poor' however that would not be fair.

Mushroom soup is to die for. Duck amazing. Beef carpaccio fantastic.

Matt and his wife Bobbi run a great restaurant and you haven't visited the Granite Belt unless you've been to their restaurant.

We visited The Barrel Room Cafe over the 2014 Easter break. Our visit was part of a winery tour and certainly turned out to be an excellent choice by the tour operator for a great lunch. My steak was tender and beautifully cooked with the accompanying vegies of beans and potato equally well prepared with delicious hints of garlic and honey. Service was prompt and courteous with a great atmosphere full of delighted people enjoying the extra long weekend. A great place to eat, set within the precint of the historic Ballandean Estate Winery. Two thumbs up!

This is a great winery to visit. The wine is excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful, they stock a lot of local produce and they have a wonderful restaurant.

We were recommend by locals that this cafe provides lovely lunch and wine tasting. We turned up just before 12, there were a few people around. This is a good sign, given that the cafe is a little drive out of Ballandean township.
When you look at the menu, you would think this is fine dinning with small portion of food. We were in a bit hurry to get on the road, so we went straight with the mains. The food was absolutely fabulous and the portion was reasonable, too. I had the Atlantic salmon prawn mussel with hand made squid ink linguini. I got to say, it was the best pasta dish I haven't had for a while. The salmon was cooked with love, soft and moist, crispy skin. We also had a bottle of Ballandean SSB, it was above average. Unfortunately, I still love the NZ SSB. Overall, it definitely worth to visit.
