“Just Beautiful!”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We recently stayed at Girraween Lodge, which was our second visit after falling in love with this place on our first visit only a month earlier!

As soon as we drove onto the property of Girraween Lodge, viewed the beautiful scenery and breathed in the fresh country air, we felt ourselves instantly unwinding. Then we were greeted by a friendly and bubbly lady, Kelly, the Property Manager and by a very friendly dog, Tasman – whom our kids loved playing soccer with!

The cabins were great. Clean, comfortable, tasteful, there's a fireplace, spa and large deck area with a BBQ. Both times Kelly organised for us to stay in a cabin with 2 bunk beds so that the boys could both sleep up the top, and my little girl slept underneath. Our bedroom was spacious and the bed and pillows were very comfortable leading us to having good nights sleep. We liked the layout of the cabins, with a family of 5 (children aged 3,6,8) the cabin had plenty of room and was child friendly. We also liked that the cabins had privacy and not too close to other cabins. It was so peaceful and quiet.

Also on the property are some bush walks which were great to do with the kids. Our 3 ½ year old daughter did one of the walks which meandered along the creek for about 2km (there and back). And then, we did the Rock Pools walk with her in a back pack, and the boys were fine walking this one as well. The lodge is close to Stanthorpe, Tenterfield and local wineries if you want to go for a drive but we mostly wanted to stay on the property and relax.

The property is also great for the kids to ride their pushbikes. My eldest son rode from sunrise to sundown and only came in for food!

Kelly does an amazing job managing this property and her connection with the guests is very sincere. A memorable moment was chatting to Kelly on the deck of her lodge which leaded to having waterfights with the kids and walking back to our cabin drenched! There were certainly lots of laughter and a good time had!

I highly recommend this place, and thank you Kelly for making it such a wonderful place to be!

We stayed at Girraween Environmental Lodge on the 9th and 10th December 2012. Myself, my partner and two children (12yo and 6yo). We absolutely loved it, we had the whole place to ourselves including the spa and plunge pools. The fact that there was no TV or wifi reception was great - it made us get out and do things! Not to mention Kelly's great selection of DVD's that you are able to borrow (free of charge). The fruit in Stanthorpe and the 'side of the road stalls' were excellent quality and cheap. Country hospitality abounds! The only negative I have is that on Monday many of the fruit picking places, cheese factories and olive factories were closed. However, we still made good use of our time. The bush walking is a must! Cathedral arch was loved by the kids and we were walking for around 2.5 hours. We will definitely go again.

My husband and I stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and just LOVED it! The Chalets are so cosy and romantic and we had lots of fun exploring Stanthorpe and the local wineries, lavender farms and antique stores.
We cannot commend the service highly enough - Kelly and her dog Tas made the stay extra special and really went above and beyond. Kelly booked all our dinner reservations for us, and when one restaurant was booked out, she sent us to another and once we arrived we realised she had called ahead and pre-paid our drinks!
Relaxing in front of fire place with a glass of wine playing boardgames was just divine and exactly what I'd hoped our weekend would be like.
The walks were fantastic too with some amazing views and wildlife. Waking up by the birds to the sight of 50 kangaroos spread outside our window was just beautiful!
While there is no mobile reception on site, you only need to drive 30 seconds down the road to be in reception; so it's a nice break from technology. If I had to think of something that could be a bit of a drawback, it would probably be that the chalet's are a little close together (though when we went, the two near us were empty so this wasn't an issue at all). I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an escape from busy routines - we plan to visit again for our next anniversary!

We (a family of four - 1 x 18 yr old 1 x 6 year old, hubby and I). We wanted something close to nature without the hassle of camping. We got sooo much more...a very relaxed place with a great manager and assistant manager (Tasman the dog). The chalets are clean, comfortable with everything you need including a fully self contained kitchen, BBQ and a big bathroom. We had a king size bed and the girl's room had four bunks. The location is outstanding....we went on three walks all of which were so much fun and magnificent, the paths are like the paths used to be, pretty close to nature so good shoes are a must....as is a camera. Wow!!! the views..and the kangaroos..everywhere. We used the resort pools and the rock pools on one of the walks. The kids weren't overly happy with no WiFi but as a family group it was great, we had to talk to each other...loved it!!!! I loved sitting out on the little deck with a nice glass of red from one of the nearby wineries, chatting with the family and watching the stars emerge!! Thanks Kelly and Tasman, you have provided a wonderful experience....though not for people who don't like nature.... there is no sleeping in the birds make sure of that!!!

Room Tip: You can get different configurations of rooms so ask to see whats available.

We went back to the lodge after we stayed there ten years ago and everything was as beautiful as I remembered! It's such an ideal place if you want to relax and get away from the busy city life and reconnect with nature. I loved the walks, the scenery, and even just sitting under the veranda at the chalet was so peaceful and unreal. Bear in mind there is not tv or internet connection so it is really a total break from life, but we so deserved one!!! I will be back again! Thanks to kelly and Taz for being such a terrific hosts.

Recently stayed here midweek, and certainly the lodges are of a high standard and spacious. But there are a few issues, the cabins are not all that far apart so you may end up overlooking someone elses, or the laundary etc. The bedrooms have a skylight, so not much chance of sleeping in past sunrise (4 am in summer) and there is no aircon, just a ceiling fan way up in the rafters and not very effective.

We stayed here with our children for 2 nights and loved it. The cabins were widely spaced for privacy, and all we heard were birds and crickets and frogs (quite a soothing chorus at night!). Kelly was lovely, and kindly allowed us a late checkout on the last day, which meant we could enjoy yet another walk at the nearby Girraween National Park.
There were also several walks on the property itself, and if you're a bird-watcher (or even just a lover of nature), you might like to know that the rare superb lyrebird and the elusive spotted quail-thrush were both seen here by my bird-watching husband.
The kids finished each day with a spa and swim while we relaxed nearby with a glass of a local chardonnay. Cabins 3 and 11 are closest to the pool and spa, and are probably also the most isolated from the other cabins as well.
If you have really small children, especially if they are afraid of dogs, just be aware that the owner's dog, Tasman, does wander from the house at times and may accompany you on walks. He is very friendly but nevertheless a dog-phobic child might need picking up.
After 2 nights here, we felt like we'd had a week's break. So if you need to get away from it all and wind down, this is the place to go.
