We went back to the lodge after we stayed there ten years ago and everything was as beautiful as I remembered! It's such an ideal place if you want to relax and get away from the busy city life and reconnect with nature. I loved the walks, the scenery, and even just sitting under the veranda at the chalet was so peaceful and unreal. Bear in mind there is not tv or internet connection so it is really a total break from life, but we so deserved one!!! I will be back again! Thanks to kelly and Taz for being such a terrific hosts.

Recently stayed here midweek, and certainly the lodges are of a high standard and spacious. But there are a few issues, the cabins are not all that far apart so you may end up overlooking someone elses, or the laundary etc. The bedrooms have a skylight, so not much chance of sleeping in past sunrise (4 am in summer) and there is no aircon, just a ceiling fan way up in the rafters and not very effective.

We stayed here with our children for 2 nights and loved it. The cabins were widely spaced for privacy, and all we heard were birds and crickets and frogs (quite a soothing chorus at night!). Kelly was lovely, and kindly allowed us a late checkout on the last day, which meant we could enjoy yet another walk at the nearby Girraween National Park.
There were also several walks on the property itself, and if you're a bird-watcher (or even just a lover of nature), you might like to know that the rare superb lyrebird and the elusive spotted quail-thrush were both seen here by my bird-watching husband.
The kids finished each day with a spa and swim while we relaxed nearby with a glass of a local chardonnay. Cabins 3 and 11 are closest to the pool and spa, and are probably also the most isolated from the other cabins as well.
If you have really small children, especially if they are afraid of dogs, just be aware that the owner's dog, Tasman, does wander from the house at times and may accompany you on walks. He is very friendly but nevertheless a dog-phobic child might need picking up.
After 2 nights here, we felt like we'd had a week's break. So if you need to get away from it all and wind down, this is the place to go.

We decided to visit Giraween Environmental Lodge to relax and for my husband to participate in the stonemason workshop which he thoroughly enjoyed - the Stone Mason, Daniel Gill shared his extensive expertise and we now have two beautiful limestone carvings for our garden. The delivery each evening of the hamper containing breakfast and lunch was like opening a christmas gift - each day a new gourmet treat, dinner at three local resturants was also as good as any in Brisbane with the local knowledge of wines and food very helpful.Kelly was a perfect host and we were very impressed with her enthusiasm for her job and the environment she is keen to share

Room Tip: Our cottage overlooked the pools with a glimse of the lake and we were totally private from all othe...

I was in Brisbane for a conference but wanted to get outside the city for a taste of Australia's bush. We were thrilled with our decision to spend a few days at Girraween Environmental Lodge. Kelly the manager, asked if we wanted the lodge that looked out on granite boulders or the one that every morning 100 kangaroos grazed outside our door. It didn't take long for this "Yank" to decide!

Aside from daily viewings of hundreds of kangaroos we also saw and heard exotic birds and enjoyed the wide and varied flora. Girraween National Park has excellent trails with the Pyramid hike topping our list of favorites. The Environmental lodge has many exceptional trails right on its own property as well.

A beautiful arrangement of winter flowers and eucalyptus met us as we entered our lodge. The lodges are large, clean, and very well equipped for cooking. The bathrooms are spa-like and the wood burning stove kept the lodge nice and warm even when we woke up to frost. One evening Kelly surprised with with the most delicious dessert, the recipe having been passed down in her family.

This treasure is an easy 3 1/2 hour drive from Brisbane and well worth the time if you want to get closer to the plants and animals of Australia.
