After one night of a very bad experience at another hotel I found Casa Mediterranea. The staff spoke English and were so helpful. Very friendly staff. The room was large, and very clean. The bathroom was heaven. Rain shower with lots of hot water and even hot water in the sink. Very modern, Breakfast was included and it was the usual type for Peru. There were few steps if you have issues and only 2 steps to the ocean. I loved my stay there and would recommend it anytime. It is located at the north end of the beach, 5 minute walk to main area of town. More a family oriented or older person type hotel. If you are younger and want wild go to a hostel. I found the value worth every dime.

Room Tip: New addition to the hotel opening soon with direct ocean views. Ocean view from balcony only in original section.

Casa Mediterranea is a very cute, small hotel (only 8 rooms).

PROS:
- GREAT location just a 8 min walk into town.
- Friendly staff.
- Clean pool.
- Beautiful balconies.
- Safe environment.

CONS:
- Bad value. The hotel is very expensive for what it offers. At US$ 130/night, you should get at least a decent bed and good breakfast. However, the "king" bed is two very tough twin beds put together, breakfast is very skimpy offering just (non fresh) rolls, butter, jelly, coffee and juice. Also, no shampoo/conditioner in the bathrooms.

If Casa Mediterranea charged US$50 less than its actual rates I think it would be a great place to stay, but for what you pay, its not the best value you're getting for your money.

Tip: Skip breakfast at the hotel and walk down the beach to the Green Eggs and Ham, for S/.15 you will have a generous portion of pancakes, bacon, eggs, in any sort of combination.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor with a balcony.

We spent a week here after booking another hostel which turned out to not be what we expected. We chose this one as it was away from the noisy town and had lovely grounds. The place was very clean and the owner spoke good English. It was overpriced and the breakfast was not up to much but there are lots of other places to eat. Yeah, the beds weren't great and sometimes the dog barked but the noise of the ocean and the fan soon drowned him out. We had a power failure and while mending the line the internet cable was cut and took 3 days to mend. The owner was most upset. Her attention to detail in design and decoration was superb. We had to walk to town to use the internet as we were having a major problem with our bank. This, of course, was not her fault. Because of our problems this place was a haven in an otherwise very unhappy week.

We stayed in this hotel for 1 week, really nice rooms and toilet, really clean and great swimming pool and access to the beach, nice food but a bit overpriced I think. The bed wasn't great, they put two beds together to make a big one and for a couple that's uncomfortable. The noises from the dogs could start very early but luckily we got that just one morning, we had a cat fight outside of our room door tho! Very noisy and I saw the blood in the morning outside of our room door. One night before leaving the hotel, the room in beside us had a party until 4am, they were soo noisy and even people that weren't staying at the hotel were invited, we complained about this to the manager and she apologised and said that unfortunately they couldn't do anything about it. The owners are very nice people unfotunately they couldn't manage this situation. Another thing they should improve is housekeeping, the room wasn't clean properly everyday, seems like they didn't clean the toilet at all and they just leave one toilet roll per day and If you didn't finish the toilet roll they won't even put one more in case you ran out of toilet roll, I remenber looking for the housekeeping girl to ask her for one toilet roll. The staff are really nice and friendly, I don't remenber her name but the girl that normally is at the reception desk is amazing, she is very friendly, very nice to talk to and always makes sure you have a nice time. She does quite a lot at the hotel. The other girl I can't remenber her name either, she is at the restaurant at breakfast time she is great and she pays attention to detail all the time. We had a good stay in this hotel despite problems.

We stayed here in late May/ early June whilst backpacking for 6 months around South America. It had newly opened; with the pool only having been finished the week before. The room was a bit of a 'splurge' by our backpacking standards - at $55 USD p/night, but well worth it.
PROS:
Brand new - Comfortable, luxurious rooms (by backpacking standards). Roomy bathrooms. Excellent balcony with ocean views. Wifi (limited access). Room fridge & mini bar (though highly recommend filling mini bar with your own purchases from town - far better value!). Great pool & deck chairs. Lovely manicured grounds. Friendly staff. Private beach chairs & umbrellas. Excellent location only 5/10 min walk along beach to town - providing easy access but enough distance to drown out the noise of the parties at the large hostels in the centre.
CONS:
Very basic breakfast - we would expect more for the price of the accommodation. Very pricey drinks & food in their bar/restaurant, which is a shame because it would otherwise be a great place to enjoy a drink or meal. Noise travels at night, especially when the owner/manager decides to party with her friends outside at 1am! Wifi only works on balcony or in common areas.
RECOMMENDATION:
Ask for a room price w/o breakfast - and stroll along the beach each morning to 'Green Eggs and Ham' (recommended in Lonely Planet) for an exceptional, great value breakfast or brunch ... we should know, we went daily (at least once!!!).
OVERALL:
Excellent. We'd love to go back and will definitely recommend. I hope they can maintain the standard of accommodation and service - because as with all things South American, it's one thing to open a 'luxurious' accommodation and another to maintain it! Also, as with previous reviewer, not sure why they call themselves an 'eco-lodge'?!
