I caught up with my Aussie mates at Mancora after I departed Lima and had a 20-hour bus ride...hoping it would be worth the long hours with people who could not sit still if they were paid. I was dropped at a prime spot for the motocaro drivers to swarm me and offer me more than just a ride, and was not sure what to expect upon arriving in Kon Tiki...

WOW. I don't have a lot of hostel experience, but would never think of Kon Tiki as such! The best view of probably all lodging in Mancora, it sits atop the main street overlooking the left point break that offers fun rides for beginner surfers through advanced levels. The bungalow private rooms have really plush balconies with the same view, a hammock, and two lounge chairs that aren't the cheap quality.

The main lounge/host area is beautiful, and the staff is extremely helpful with every detail you could want...and they do it happily! My bed was two combined into about a king size, but I didn't notice it until the morning. Super clean, feng shui, and equipped with a nice bathroom/shower, I would never ask for more. And at about $25/night, who could? This place is a must, and if I wander through town again I won't look anywhere else to stay.

We stayed at Kon Tiki over the Christmas holidays and loved every part of our stay there. The bungalows have an amazing view of the sea and the town, and you are away from the craziness of the bars yet still close enough to walk down to them when you feel like it. Each bungalow has a hammock and comfy chairs to chill out in when you feel like a siesta. And breakfast is great!
Jurg, Patricia and their staff are very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. I would definitely stay there again!

We stayed in one of the rooms (not a bungalow), which was perfect for us- the room was huge with lots of closet space and the bathroom was also clean and spacious and had a strong hot shower.

This hotel has a serene atmosphere, with a beautiful swimming pool set against a mountainous backdrop. We swam and read on the comfortable lounge chairs all morning and then headed into town in the afternoon, which is about 2 minutes away. In my view, this is much better than staying at a place right in town or very far away- you get the best of both worlds.

The lady behind the desk was very helpful when it was time to move on- she called a hotel in Piura and made our reservation for us.

Don't let a rickshaw overcharge you when you get to Mancora- the hotel really is about 2/3 minutes from the centre of town, so you shouldn't pay more than a few soles.

We stayed in one of the bungalows for 3 nights and didn't want to leave! The bungalows are just a few months old and have a beautiful interior as well as stunning ocean views from the terrace. They were pretty cheap for what you get, and if you are on a tight budget you can stay in the rooms with shared bathrooms. Kon Tiki is up on a hill just 5 minutes from the beach. Mancora can be a little loud but up there on the hill it's really quiet. Owners Jurg and Patricia are super nice and happy to help with any requests. We'd definitely come back!

This was a quite a unique place to stay.
Our room had a double bed in the middle and 2 bunkbeds against the Walls which we used as shelves for our stuff. The bed was comfy and had a mosquito net. The porch had 2 deckchairs and a hammock ouside with nice views. The shared toilets and shower was always clean and water was warm (the perfect temperature due to the heat).
Breakfast was good with coffee, juice and a selection of rolls. Other options like eggs were available at a cost. The view from the communal area was amazing. There was a computer and wifi but this did not reach our room. There was beer and water available. Staff were friendly.

The only downsides were:
- not having a kitchen to use made our stay quite expensive as food in Mancora seemed quite
expensive for our budget.
- the path up to the hostel was pretty scary it could do with some more concrete steps instead of dirt track and some hand rails in the bits with the steep drops. Walking up with my heavy backpack was unpleasant and i really felt like a was going to fall off the side of the path. This could be easily fixed.
- bring earplugs there are a few clubs going on til 5-6 am everyday and our room was unfortunate to get the wind dragging up the noise. Not sure if this was the same for other rooms

I needed to escape the craziness of Loki, and found an oasis of peace and quiet in Kon Tiki. Set up on the hill, my friend and I shared a 3 bed bungalow at a very reasonable price, complete with our own hammock slung veranda and a stunning view over town and the ocean. The owners are friendly and helpful, the place is clean, quiet and breezy, and the view at breakfast can't be beaten anywhere else in Mancora.
